This is the most emo sung version of the most emo song ever made.
Love it.
I’m 38, and I totally forgot what it felt like to feel this way about someone again. I got someone now, Thanks for the memories brother killer pipes!!
Right here with you brotha.(or sista)
wonder what he remembers everytime he sings this song. theres always so much emotion in his performances.
Am I the only one who enjoys the strain in his voice? He is showing raw emotion and that makes you feel much more than a simply "perfect" voice. I loved this
Agree agree agree. Real love is trusting that the other sees your flaws and accepts you despite them and is, in some cases, even more endeared because of them. This song couldn't have sounded any more perfect to me.
That's why the original recording of this song (from "Places That You've Come to Fear the Most") was my preferred version vs. the radio version. - steve
No its fucking cliche and orthodox and normal. You're fine, but not special
There’s no emotion in that song. I bet you anything he despises playing that song
Yeah, agreed - it shows that he meant it ;)
This song was brand new when i started dating my wife, I still feel this way everyday
That warms my heart. My wife left me 7 months ago after 10 years together and 5 years of marriage and I sometimes just listen to this song for a good cry. Pretty fucked on my part for forcing myself to sad. I did jump a gate and let her in once in college. lol
I just have a hard time thinking this to be true. Part of the mystique of first meeting someone is not knowing if it's for sure. I would imagine you have a little more security in your relationship now, right?
I'm very happy for you. It's just hard for me to fathom this concept. I acknowledge that you have no reason to make this up, so not accusing you of lying. Just asking for clarification. How is it possible when you are so sure of each other?
My high school sweetheart when this song came out, although magical, we both had so much changing left to do. And we did.
Now she is someone I could never see myself with from a personality perspective. It's so amazing you guys have stuck together through the changing of the tides. Were there no changes you had to adapt to with her? Everyday is seriously no question?
I admire you, and am cheering you on.
@@tymirra8769 reading this 2 years later. Hope all is well with you, my friend. Life is nothing without struggle. Nothing bad ends without reason. I hope you arrived at that.
@@tymirra8769 aww brother. I feel you. But we're alive still. And that itself is a beautiful thing.
Man life as a simp must be simple
And I STILL know.....ugh, that gets me right in the heart.
1:10-1:20 look at his gaze. He’s thinking of a memory. This song means more to him than any of us know.
Nothing wrong about the vocals. It's pure raw emotions.. Love it
his voice and this song are like wine...
14 years ago this was my song to my girlfriend. Now she's my wife and we have 2 kids.
*tears
So I guess it wasn’t “impossible”
awww! 😍😭🙏
That's winning in life, man. Congrats!
L
There is so much more feeling and emotion in this version. he remembers why he wrote it, and he remembers when he sang it at its peak....
So many comments about Chris's voice and looks. We all age, if we have the privilege of doing so. Over time, our voices change and no performance is ever a carbon copy of another. I had the honor of my emotions being placated/redeemed by this man's lyrics and music in my twenties. I have nothing but admiration and respect. I am grateful, for it has helped me endure those ominous and formative years. Love to all going through something that this connects to.
This kind of music should be kept alive
Action Cat acoustic emo is very much so alive! you should check out Paco is Desperate if you dig dashboard.
he's been playing this song for over a decade and still gives it so much life. great musicianship right there.
I’ve seen a lot of comments about his voice being rough. His voice might not be what it used to be but this is raw and real and it’s a great story. Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen don’t have good voices but they tell amazing stories.
I’m legitimately stumped at the comments! I consider myself a pretty critical audience and don’t particularly have a thing for this guy; however I found that performance to be nothing less than absolutely moving. I also think he looks fantastic!
I'm just reading these comments getting irate over here. People are have no idea what pitch is. This performance is raw and breathtaking. Contemporary listener ears are so saturated with fake autotuned, vocaligned, doubled, and compressed vocal tracks in popular music and on these stupid fake singing shows they cant recognize the perfection in something thats real but just slightly rough around the edges.
@@kevinmccord8847 I know right? I feel like even if I didnt play any instruments I'd still love this version way more than the original though. he puts just as much emotion into the strumming of the chords as he puts into his vocals
This song is a time machine, for 4:02 seconds I was in high school. That raw voice made it even better.
Can't believe he can still hit those high notes. Props
I dont think he hit em, lol.
No, he didn't bro. I'm a fan btw.
I know he doesn't hit every note but man, this version got me more than any other version because you can feel all his emotions he put into this performance. Great job, even though his singing isn't as good as it used to be.
Thats the best iv ever heard him sing this song!! something must of made him reconnect with the lyrics after all these years of singing it to get a performance like that!, so good...
After all these years, still stunning.
This version hits so hard, you can tell he was dealing with some shit before this performance, I have recently watched him play live, and he sang this song and was so happy, but this version is so heartbreaking and so filled with such emotion and heartbreak, and I love it
Just saw them recently open for Counting Crows and he sang with just as much emotion as the crowd lit up when he played it!
I always preferred their one live version of this song the most, but after giving this one a few run throughs, dang, this is hard to beat....20 years after the fact, performing it acoustic and solo. Amazing.
This song did not come out 20 years ago. It was released in 03.
Serenaded this song to my girlfriend 12 years ago. Got married, and 2 kids later, still sing this song to her. Thanks for this beautiful rendition Chris!
The desperation is his voice is killing. Don't care what anyone says, every bit of this performance is perfect.
Except the parts when he loses his voice.
@StarWarsGalacticImporium what are you talking about, he never "loses his voice". You people who know nothing about music need to stop.
Most emotional song and i really love it ❤
Amazing after all these years. Can't wait to see him in concert again.
Hands down the best version of this song and I meant it 🙂
just now i saw this acoustic version, and i feel the side story of this song, it was sad. and when he hit the high notes in a last part. iwas dout because maybe he cant because of his age. but he can and it was so amazing and yet Im still crying. 😭😭
This song was like the anthem of my heart when I was in a toxic relationship in 2002-03. And not too long after I stopped listening to it because it brought up so many painful memories. Then I met my wife in 2011 and just recently realized how much the bridge or outro or whatever its called reminds me of one of my wife's and my first dates(August 27th, 2011). I think it was our 6th date. But hands down, its the best day I can ever remember, I'll always remember.... .
Definitely 💯💯💯
Still good as the first time I heard it. Love the rawness. I still get all the feels
This
Still amazed with his emotion through this song 🤘🤘🤘
It's nice to hear an updated version of this song. It's been years since I've actually listened to this song.
Amazing song. Brings me back to 2009/2010
MaxMorerProductions 2009? This song is much, much older than that.
brian p Didn't this song come out in like 2004?
In 2009/2010 I was 17. Sorry for being born last week haha
MaxMorerProductions more like 2001/2002 folks
it's pretty much identical to the letterman performance, just really really slow, but still, soulful and awesome
Amazing !!! I saw chris a few days ago in Cali and he crushed his performance!!! He's 45 now amazing job !!!
Misty Diaz 42*
it's beautiful. he's not young but the emotion still stays the same. Though some of the notes are somewhat "off notes" but still the emotion is deeply felt that it still feels like its right.
I'm 4 years old and I already fcking love this song!
4 years old!?!?!?? Wow cool LoL
OMG the RAW talent is just unbelievable. Song chokes me up to this day.
Dude, this is not just a song. This is a memory that is being shared that was integral in his life. This is an amazing story. The vocals were super emotional, shit almost had me in tears low key. This was so good
so much grief in his voice. sucks when the best day of your life leaves you in pain. fictitious or not, can't listen to this without getting sad.
I agree... he looks like "i cant believe i am still singing this song".. He has lots of great new music, but this was his peak. He doesnt look too good in this video.
do you think so? for me this was quite a performance, such emotional and all, you can hear truth in his voice and see it in his eyes
lesslikeme I don't know much about this band, but are you sure that this song is about something that leaves him in pain or grief?
That's not grief... he's been playing this song for like 15 years. He's just borderline blown out his voice and is probably tired of playing this song haha
Ian McIntosh definitely blown out his voice, but I can see he's still feelin' the song.
This is special 💜
Its my favorite song.. and actually my theme song for my wife..
WOW I FELT THE PASSION MORE THAN EVER WITHIN A SONG IVE HEARD FOR YEARS NOW. INTENSE!!
I like even this version of the song. Captures that feeling even still. Chris is older now, as we all are, but this song meant the same thing to us all when it came out. That feeling of the new beginning of a relationship.
Hands down this is the best version of hands down ever
I like this rendition. Still one of my fav songs. ❤
Can't stop watching this
This song means so much to me, it is more than a song for real!!
Got goosebumps everytime i hear this song. Chris Carraba is a legend!
The vibrato in his voice is so naturally perfect, I am dying to meet him.
Ey, we got old too. And thing is that I still love your voice.
i feel like there could be an album where every song is the same song but each version is from a different year. if an artist could take this idea and take a hit from when they were in their early 20's and record it every 5 years until they die. that would be deep. i dont know if it would be like hearing this recording here but this is cool
Great idea
Just gave me life all over again.
Holy fuck that’s some emotion right there
Love this track. Takes me back to high school!👏
Went to the show at Foxwoods a couple of weeks ago. You guys are still amazing live. It was the 2nd time I've gotten to see you live. Thanks for all the years of great music.
Oh high school memories
College ultimate crush. ❤ Emodays were the best days of my life. 😘
yeah! i feel you.
Count me in! Best days of highschool!
+Erika Torrecampo I don't really get it how can you have a good time if you are depressed? 😊
Erika Torrecampo hahahahahahahahahaha flashbacks.
Out of control while being in control, mark of a true pro
His voice sounds like his dog just died and wife left him on the same day...and it's amazing. At 3:40 he pulled an emo string I never knew I had.
Thank God he didn't went on a killing spree for that.
Seeing comments about his voice.. What's life without a risk or two? The few notes he missed he made up for with emotion and killed the rest of them. Anyone can play it safe At least he's got balls man it's not easy to sit up there and commit like that. Bravo i say Bravo!
I love when his voice breaks...
Yeah its great! Its called, purposed straining. At least thats what excuse someone else commenting made for it. I call it, out of practice, by chris carabba! 😆
Can't wait to see him and the band in concert.
He still looks great in my opinion. Everybody gets old... I am too.
I’ve heard recent interviews, where there were years, at his peak, when he was on the road 300 days a year. I saw him live many times, in the early 2000’s and the intensity in his performances were gnarly! It didn’t scream longevity, that’s for sure. His voice has been thrashed, from touring. I’d say he’s still got it, all things considered 🙌
Came here from the Letterman recording made 11 years earlier. Still a great song. Still one of my favorite singer/songwriters.
Breathe in for luck,
Breathe in so deep,
This air is blessed,
You share with me.
This night is wild,
So calm and dull,
These hearts they race,
From self control.
Your legs are smooth,
As they graze mine,
We're doing fine,
We're doing nothing at all.
My hopes are so high,
That your kiss might kill me.
So won't you kill me,
So I die happy.
My heart is yours to fill or burst,
To break or bury,
Or wear as jewellery,
Whichever you prefer.
The words are hushed lets not get busted;
Just lay entwined here, undiscovered.
Safe from the hour and all the stupid questions
"Hey did you get some?"
Man, that is so dumb.
Stay quiet, stay near, stay close they can't hear
So we can get some.
My hopes are so high that your kiss might kill me.
So won't you kill me, so I die happy.
My heart is yours to fill or burst,
To break or bury, or wear as jewellery,
Whichever you prefer.
Hands down this is the best date I can ever remember,
Always remember, the sound of the stereo,
The dim of the soft lights,
The scent of your hair that you twirled in your fingers
And the time on the clock when we realized it's so late
And this walk that we shared together.
The streets were wet and the gate was locked so I jumped it,
And let you in.
And you stood at your door with your hands on my waist
And you kissed me like you meant it.
And I knew that you meant it, that you meant it,
That you meant it, and I knew,
That you meant it, that you meant it.
We are already know the words😅😅
he is a legend his performance is always superb
his best acoustic version of this song.. hands down.. |m|
Man... I remember waking up early before school to watch this video on tv when it first came out. Been such a long time, for some reason I wanted to listen to remember to breathe and this came up. Can't believe it's been so long. On to Early November next lol. Wonder how they look now.
The Early November was my favorite band for a hot minute around my senior year in high school. A friend burned me a CD of the Acoustic EP and I would blast that every night at the kitchen at work. I totally forgot about them until now. Thanks for reminding me.
Hands down is supposed to be a happy song. But this version is a lot sad and darker plus he's so good even when he's old.
41 is old? O.o
Tony what I'm trying to say is. His voice right now is like one tenth of his full potential back then. Sorry for my bad english. Hope you understand
actually damn good english compared to the billion of other people say "sorry for the bad english".
Bronson Ellenwine thanks mate!
Lol, yes. So old.
Brings back good old memories ❤️
since i was a child maybe 7 or 8 years old and, my cousin influenced me to listen to this band. almost everyday we continuously playing all of the Dashboard's songs. until i memorized it's lyrics. until now. i always play these songs. i really miss chris carrabba.. now i am 21 years old this coming october 2019 ... and will still listen to their songs. :*
This is one of my favorite things that I have ever heard. Holy crap dude.
😍 so many years, good old memories
*epic vocals*
lol wow I love how raw and unedited this is. Chris' voice is cracking and seems very strained... its all okay, I still love him and this song! :)
awesome version love to hear the soul in these songs
He sounds like he was sentenced to death and this is the last song he'll ever sing.
why is this comment so funny to me. hahahhahah
Kebert Xela it sound so good though.
I wonder if this is good or bad?
LOL!@@shrillex
LOL!
Beautiful. Your music is amazing, GREAT singing... wow... awesome.
Great job. Great version of a great song. Bravo.
This song Will be playing on my funeral.
How will you know? You'll be dead.
@@ChrisCaldwellO66 i will take care
2002! School days! Happy times
best version of this song
So raw. So awesome
this is the best version
Guys , this song Is absolutely beautiful… people commenting on Chris’s voice being “whatever words that they wanna use”
We all age guys.. he absoFucKenlutely killed this ! The Fact that the man wrote it…
And sings it with such fascinating emotion… which is something a lot of people that call themselves “artists” in this day and age… struggle with, especially because they don’t write their own music.
This guy ages beautifully and his voice is going to have flaws because he’s acoustic and can sing With those beautiful flaws. Real flaw’s make everything more real.
He's still so so so so beautiful. Ugh. I miss bands like this.
Beautiful
So much passion he displays... waw
Slayed it with such passion.
This person is amazing ,.
all of your music i adore
Never gets old.
damn bro gettin old, but your songs never will.
JUST...
PERFECT.
It's funny how everyone talks about this being the anthem for their college days, and I'm over here remembering listening to this as a 3rd grader on cd at my friend's house and talking about our crushes. Still digging their tho- I connect to it now more than ever.
still a beautiful song after how many years
SO FUCKING GOOD
Still legendary
Fantastic performance. Great voice.
See those 'off' notes are not off. He can hit the high notes still. He's just adding emotion and feeling. This song tells a story. Starts out so restrained and he squeaks but it's ALL on purpose. It's building to the big notes at the end, making you think he lost it until...he doesn't.
patrick soler no dude his voice is fucked
I dunno. Saw him live with VIP and the show and I really think it's just the way he sounds. I think strained is part of his 'flavor' now. The only reason is because he CAN nail the high notes. If he couldn't, I'd agree.
patrick soler 1:04 is fucked not style
1:03 i mean
Look, I never said he's perfect. He isn't. But a lot of the hoarseness I believe is style. I've been defending this dude since like 2000 lol
