This NFL Films music of the 1970's combined with John Facenda narrating made watching football highlights one of the truly great things about that era.

I still have John Facenda playing in my head and still get goosebumps! I was born in '59, used to tape NFL action, This Week in the NFL, and everything else I was fortunate enough hear the voice of God. I'd play this stuff for the guy's I played with. My blood BROTHERS, my high school teammates, the guy's I went riding with, and everybody else who wants to be something.

As a Youth I would watch hours and hours of NFL Films, I would record every episode I could on VHS. I fell in love with the game because of NFL Films! Ed Sabol, Steve Sabol and the voice of John Facenda brought to life the history of the game and struck a passion in a child's heart! Watching & learning about the men who paved the way for the game that is the NFL was an outlet for a emotionally & physically abused youth to escape from reality and be at peace for a few hours with the men that ultimately became his heros!

@edward king, I'll give you a little more info to show just how crazy things were. I am related Vince Lombardi. My grandmother and his mother were first cousins. Anyway, back in the 60s, the whole family were Packer fans because of Cousin Vince. As a little kid, there I am reveling in Packer glory. However, when Vince left the Packers, the family had a choice, do we go Jets or Giants? Back then the Jets were coming off Super Bowl III and were good. What do we do? We become Giant fans, of course.

As I watched these NFL Films videos way back when and listened to the music and narration, I lamented as to why these pregame shows and highlight shows weren't longer than half an hour or an hour. Now, there are hours upon hours of pregame, highlights and NFL talk and it's pretty much all a big pile of crap. Boy, I miss those old days.

+eric cockerson This music took football to another level. Players became gladiators and Sunday was clash of the titans. Players covered in mud some of them bleeding, it wasn't just a game it was war. These were real men and deserved our respect.

Majestically evokes mud-stained images of scarred, bloodied gladiatorial men pummeling each other in the rain, in the snow, in the cold on December-dead grass fields in the decrepit gloom of dimly-lit stadia long since vanished. Iron men, heroic men. Real men.
Sadly, the league, the game and the players this magnificent music celebrate no longer exist.

This is the National anthem of the NFL. There are other riveting /beautiful tracks played to our favorite player in slow motion making a play , that will forever live with us. ( Bobby Bryant returning and int. for a TD to the tune of Rainbows in the Endzone, 73 NFC Championhip Game)but The Over The Hill Gang track sets the standard for all the others.

(Can’t remember NBC hosts) then in ‘75 the pre game went to an hour with Musberger, Cross, George. Now it’s just ridiculous with 4 hrs of pre game ANALyst’s, no great music.
