Love the content. Young pitchers (HS) nowadays have a huge advantage with access to all this information on YT
This dude really just explained my arsenal… Pronation squad on top haha
I supinate like crazy. As much as he tries to convince me not to try and change it I want a sinker that goes well with my slider
Facts. A lot of those in this video. Also the cutter is not meant for everyone. But either way I believe that pitch is a big factor in this crazy elbow problem /Tommy John increase in pitchers. Cutters/tight sliders that are now easier to be taught to anyone..
Like the Mariano Rivera cutter can’t be taught by simply changing finger placement and pressure. Jansen first few years also almost in that category 👍 “arm swing” of motion made that pitch work more 👍 imo
This is awesome. I pronate but have trouble throwing a consistent 2 seamer. Changeup is ok-ish, but glove side pitches seem to come much more naturally. I know Tread works with guys at a much higher level but do you guys have a playlist or a video on what someone should focus on first if they are a novice pitcher? Thanks!
You should check this video out regarding wrist positions at release. Similar concepts as this video.

As for novice pitching playlists, we don't really have one. We do have a playlist for drills that I'll attach below!

@@treadathletics Thank u so much!
Sorry I think its the same link twice, I didnt see a playlist :(
Sorry about that! Try the new one ^
@@treadathletics I see it, thanks!
So how would you build an arsenal if a pitcher has only a little bias towards one or none at all? I would assume a high carry fastball, but what about changeups and breaking balls? Do you just work with what does best, or is there a prevalent trend with this group?
It all depends on the pitcher's ability to manipulate the ball at that point. Definitely an art form there. Leaning into what they do best is certainly an option.
Like I’ve tried to throw a change up for so long but I can never get inside of it and get it to fall off, it’s always been hard and straight
You may just be a supinator who can't physically get to the inside!

Why do some pitchers drag their back leg, and others don’t? Is there a science behind drag vs no drag?

any tips for pronation bias pitcher I really favor pronation any things to work on?
Change-ups, gyro slider, and spiked grip breaking balls are typically favorable for pronation biased pitchers
What is better for arm longevity
Sticking with your motor preference is the easiest way to stay healthy. Pronators trying to throw sweepers and supinators trying to get on the inside of changeups is where injuries can happen. Stick to your bias
Who is an example of a pitcher who is on the more neutral side between pronation and supination?
Jose Berrios. If you look at pitchers' metrics on Baseball Savant, you can see their active spin percentage. Berrios was at 92% in 2023, which is roughly neutral.
Where the F was this guy when I was 12-14 years old? I enjoyed baseball and I was the go-to pitcher on my teams because I was accurate and consistent and at worst I would get hitters to put the ball in play so we could make outs. I was never really coached especially well for pitching or made to suss out a pitching discipline though. But I do remember hating pitching much more when I was trying to learn a changeup and curve ball, which are opposite in motor activity. The curve ball was just an impossibility to me because of my finger length, yet no one in the know could offer me insight into that. If I was 12 y.o. now I would just put any supination on the back burner and master the pronation pitches first. Incredible how a simple bit of direction can have such effect. He's so damn right to want to foster the pitches that go along with the pitcher's natural motor bias, and to foster pitching that the pitcher can actually throw and get satisfaction from. Another addition to the list of how I would coach younger players differently today than how I was coached when I was younger.
@treadathletics what are good pitches for supinators?
Anything gloveside, and then SSW sinkers
