  • With 700 miles on my 2014 KTM Duke 690 I wanted more power so I purchased the performance 690 cam from KTM. Install took a few hours, most of the time was spent getting to the cam. The actual cam installation was very easy! Link to the cam: www.ktmtwins.com/ktm-690-rally...

  • @EvilRacer329
    @EvilRacer329 Před 8 lety +1

    If I'm guessing (and seeing correctly) the new cam has a greater duration for more lift-on-overlap, so you'd expect more top-end power at the expense of a little torque lower in the rev range. But if you plan on revving it hard all the time anyway...! I'll admit I'm impressed, servicing and particularly valve clearance checks scared me off buying a 690 Duke in favour of a Street Triple R. More fool me... Awesome video, keep it up!

    • @ChixLife
      @ChixLife  Před 8 lety

      Definitely more duration, maybe a bit more lift but mild. I'd like to see the actual specs. Fortunately the KTM top end is pretty simple...albeit noisy haha

    Hello there.
    Tnx for the informative video. My Duke had a broken decompresion leaver, and there is small damage to the cam. Its not mandatory that I change it. But if I did. Did you find that the bike needs a retune, power commander etc?
    Im not after totally ultimate performance, but if I'm going to buy a new cam. For $100 more it may as well be the better one.
    Would appreciate your thoughts.
    Regards Mark R.

    • @ChixLife

  • @mikef3300
    @mikef3300 Před 2 lety

    Where did you see the most gains with this cam? Low end, mid range or top end or just better performance all round? I have a 690 enduro r that I use for off-road riding and more low end grunt would be nice but I guess dropping a tooth off the counter sprocket could achieve this for me. Great job on the cam swap 👍

    • @ChixLife
      @ChixLife  Před 2 lety

      It was all on top, made it pretty gutless down low honestly with little gains on top. I ended up selling the bike years ago, but was a fun project!

    I know it's a late comment but what vam shaft did you use ?

  • @MikSane
    @MikSane Před 7 lety +1

    Another question as I am about to commit to the cam...did you do camshaft first? My only mod right now is a DNA s2 filter on a stock bike. Did you remap after the camshaft?

    • @ChixLife
      @ChixLife  Před 7 lety +1

      I did all the engine mods at once, and yes it will need to be remapped

    • @MikSane
      @MikSane Před 7 lety

      So you had it mapped prior to the cam install? Or you just took it for a test rip after you cam'd it?

    • @ChixLife
      @ChixLife  Před 7 lety +1

      I rode it for a while after the cam install, it sucked. Absolutely terrible to ride untuned.

  • @adamusbe3
    @adamusbe3 Před 7 lety

    Nice video :) One thing is missing, in 5:40 you remove cam tensioner cover, you didn't show how you installed it and this can be tricky part. In general if you remove this cover you can't just turn it as cam tensioner will be in blocked position. You have to: 1. Remove cam tensioner 2. Compress it to blocked position 3. Put it back compressed 4. Screw tensioner cover 5. Remove hex cover(which is inside tensioner cover) 6. Using e.g. 10 cm hex key push tensioner, tensioner unblock it self and will be in operational mode.

    • @ChixLife
      @ChixLife  Před 7 lety +1

      adamusbe3 Yeah all you do is keep it untensioned and let it back once installed. Never install a tensioner pre tensioned.

      +Dawn Moon the bike has to be remapped with the cam. I did notice a difference riding the bike without a tune after the cam. Revs more freely and has more top end. Definitely needs mapping though, rides pretty bad, jerky and bad fueling.
