Regarding the flag I just want consistency. I don’t care if idiots burn the American flag. But you have to allow ALL freedom of expression. There was a homeless guy who ripped down a rainbow flag and literally got charged with a hate crime and I think sentenced to an absurd amount of time like 20 years. I'm a veteran from a family of veterans. I'm own multiple American flags and one is always flying on my front porch during daylight hours/good weather. I would absolutely not support charging anyone who burns a U.S. flag with a crime even though I personally find it to be a completely disrespectful and morally repugnant act. Many years ago, I owned a neighborhood bar. One late night, there were just a few men talking politics. A couple guys made off handed comments implying they wish someone would kill the president. There was no one there that we didn't know well. There was no fight. The next day, I pull in the parking lot at 5 pm. I am met by 3 well dressed men. They showed me I D's stating they were the secret service. They wanted to know the names of the people in the bar when that comment was made! I refused to say anything except that not one person meant anyone harm. Insane.

Regarding the flag I just want consistency. I don’t care if idiots burn the American flag. But you have to allow ALL freedom of expression. There was a homeless guy who ripped down a rainbow flag and literally got charged with a hate crime and I think sentenced to an absurd amount of time like 20 years. We keep seeing people arrested for desecrating the rainbow flag, you can’t have that type of inconsistency.

If a city, state, or county wants to pass a law against burning objects in the streets, they could arrest flag burners. They should pass such laws with exceptions for Independence Day & other holidays IMO, for things like fireworks. But if you want to prevent flag burning, that's the way to do it. People who aren't citizens, should be kicked out of the country for public displays of animosity towards America, because they are promoting "foreign ideology," which is something the Constitution empowers government to protect against. Sharia, being a legal system foreign to ours, is an example of such an ideology. I'm a veteran from a family of veterans. I'm own multiple American flags and one is always flying on my front porch during daylight hours/good weather. I would absolutely not support charging anyone who burns a U.S. flag with a crime even though I personally find it to be a completely disrespectful and morally repugnant act. The 1st Amendment doesn't protect anyone if it only protects speech or acts that we like and agree with.

I served as a Corpsman in the 70's and was 34yo when this SCOTUS decision came down. As a Patriot I have always hated it and never understood it. I have seen many news reports with film of people burning our beloved flag which always galled me. Once I was walking through a store parking lot to my car when this was happening -- I stepped in and grabbed our flag ---my ass kicked by the 6 who were there, 2 broken ribs and 12 stitches later I was told by authorities I was in the wrong...

1. That the people who burnt the flag in NY were white looking and were not Middle Eastern Muslim looking people.
2. Some of the biggest supporters of Palestine are, wait for it, Christians. Ben Jamal in the head of Palestinian Solidarity Campaign in the UK is Christian, not a Muslim.

there are times in this country where i feel like burning the flag myself. like when our president shits himself at a war memorial or fails to even deliver a one liner in a debate because he's senile
but i would never actually burn it. it's just anger towards a government that has turned on its citizens for self gain
but no, people should be allowed to protest as they see fit so long as they don't hurt others, damage property, make threats etc. i lot of these protestors have damaged property, arrest them for that

Unfortunately, I do not agree anyone who burns ANY flag should be jailed because that falls under freedom of speech. I think it's sick; especially on that day but we can't undermine ourselves.
