Before the salary cap, Stamkos to the Red Wings would have been likely. Not any more. Not going to happen.
Too much money and blocks other players from playing. He is not going to want a one year contract.
I’d rather clear out dead weight and upgrade RD and getting a cheaper scoring option on the wing if I’m being honest. Stamkos is pretty much a PP specialist at this point and he’ll be 35 next year, no thanks.
There’s no way the Wings sign Stammer AND resign Kane unless they’re taking HUGE pay cuts. The Wings have to resign Seider and Raymond this offseason, and while they have $30 million in cap space…that ain’t enough to sign all four.

Off Copp and Holl and save about 9 mill. Holl doesn’t play and Copp doesn’t make much of an impact. Even if nobody wants them you could find a team that needs to hit the cap floor and throw them a free draft pick. Problem solved

No way Detroit signs stammer with both Lucas and Seider looking for contracts. 13 players signed with $29M sounds like a lot but when your core needs to pony up...
As a Lightning fan this is pretty simple economics: 8.9 mil/year is simply something the Lightning CAN'T do...and still build an actual team. My best guess is that another team will offer him something in this range and he'll HAVE to accept. That said...his family could play a HUGE part in this. It'll suck to see the Captain in another jersey but the Lightning could get BETTER by letting him go at 9 mil/year. Regardless...his statue will be standing in front of Amalie, when he retires.
I mean the lightning forward depth and top 6 will take a huge blow if Stammer is gone. Not to mention team morale, the fanbase and the powerplay will lose some of its punch

As a lightning fan, it’s either Stamkos stays or he goes. It would be nice if he stays in one sweater but we can’t always get what we want. We probably need the money more if he wants more. Be tough to see in another team sweater.

Nope not going to happen. Montreal has a game plan that they will stick with. One more year of growing and possibly having a good draft pick next year. If not I am sure Kent Huges can pull the rabbit out of the hat in the draft in 2025 . Even if they pick 10 or higher . In Kent Huges we trust.

Leafs would have to shed Taveres completely & replace him with Stamkos at $11Mil. He won't take any less than that in TO due to taxation etc. I'd give him at least a 4 year deal on that, possibly 6 if he allowed it to taper in his final few years for a lower AAV. 11/11/11/10/8/6 or something like that. I'm sure he'll produce darn near a point per game until he's 40. Obvs his health is always questionable, but he's been strong in his past 4 seasons, so that is key.
