    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    Nick Wells (Robert De Niro) and Max (Marlon Brando) negotiate a deal.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    Three generations of method acting giants unite for this crime thriller written by Kario Salem and directed by Frank Oz. Robert De Niro stars as Nick Wells, an aging thief whose specialty is safecracking and who is on the verge of retiring to a life of ease, running his jazz club and romancing his girlfriend Diane (Angela Bassett). But before he can ride off into the sunset, Nick is pressured to do one last job by his mentor and business partner, a flamboyant and extravagant upscale fence named Max (Marlon Brando). Max is plotting the heist of the Montreal Customs House, and he's got a man on the inside, Jackie Teller (Edward Norton), a talented but volatile crook who has managed to ingratiate himself with the facility's staff as a fellow employee suffering from cerebral palsy. Jackie bristles at Nick's interference in "his" score, however, and threatens violence when it seems he's going to be cut out of the action. In the meantime, Nick grows increasingly ill at ease about the operation, as it violates his two most important dictums in thievery: always work alone and never pull a job in your own city. The part of Max in The Score was written specifically for Brando by screenwriter Salem, although the improvisational star and his director Oz reportedly clashed during filming.

    I'm a huge Daniel Day Lewis fan and I love his intense preparation for each role, but what makes Brando so special is that he just does it so naturally and it's the little subtle things that he does that make his characters so believable. Making a simple gesture, movement, or expression to mimic what all of us do in life is what Brando does best and that is what separates him from everyone else as an actor.

    • @haloed-hero
      @haloed-hero Před 4 lety +8

      Yes.. well I see Brando the first thing is I observe is his prescience which is very unique thing in itself. Then hes so natural and unforced it feels like there is no acting just things happening in real time. Then when acts as characters he does do much but the subtle things are amazing. Brando can be small in scene or very isolating or can be very raw and emotional.

    This movie was Brando's last film. The second half of his career wasn't much better, but still he was one of the best actors ever.

    0:57 No matter how great Brando is, I feel that we`ve gotten used to him coming up with his own things for his scenes but it sometimes pisses the director off.

    As there is a G.O.A.T in each field ..as Muhammad Ali in sport ...einstein in science...also Marlon Brando in acting ..whether he is a star, costar or cameo; he is the greatest among them all. Brando is a different story, he took his acting career to another level...no one in history can have zero flaws in acting but Marlon Brando. is so real ..he is 100% real in character. when he acts he is the greatest.

    RDN es mi actor favorito en activo, pero no puedes comparar la influencia que tuvo Brando con la que pudiera tener RDN actualmente, Brando no solo cambio la forma de actuar en General sino que su personalidad englobo muchas mas cosas, fue un rebelde contra los monopolios del cine, fue un innovador en la improvisacion y a pesar de su personalidad era un deleite verlo en pantalla, Apocalipsis Now, EL PADRINO I, on the waterfront, streetcar name desire, pero tienes razon, es debatible
    ¡grande RDN¡

    This wasn't one take. There's a cut at 1:29. You'll notice his glass is coming up and the frame cuts away, but the glass is in his right hand as it comes up, after the cut, his left hand comes up and it's just his finger. You can also tell by the change of tone in his voice that it's a edit between different takes.

    • @mediocreparagon
      @mediocreparagon Před 9 lety +2

      IsItModern I counted 15 cuts before I became bored of counting cuts because nothing about this scene indicates it's one take on any of the cameras. It's a simple reverse two-shot except for Brando's entrance.
