- This has been a long time coming, I finally made it to the Sierra National Forest in the Bald Mountain OHV area with Greg and Kevin and got to see some incredible views this area had to offer! I had travelled south on Highway 99 and then headed east of Fresno to get to an area near Shaver Lake where I met up with @TrailNewbie and @RhinoOffroad. The video includes a feature on sous vide cooking some great filet mignons (with final searing on a Tembo Tusk Skottle), Boxio Camp Sink and Starlink - all by @TrailNewbie. I also got to tryout a new DJI Osmo Action 3 camera I had purchased for the first time. I also got a chance to use my XVentures diesel heater to keep my Alucab rooftop tent nice and warm during a cold winter night.
As I mentioned in the beginning of the video, several CZcams content creators could not attend but please follow their channels, they are awesome! Click on the links below!

That morning coming down that ice and snow on the rocks!!! 😮 🥵 😅. That’s when that downhill decent in 4L comes in real handy! Yikes! Great work fellas…
Yeah when you feel your rig slipping on the rocks it is a bit concerning to say the least! But thankfully made it through ok.
This trip was awesome! Such a fun time - very nicely done buddy! Looking forward to the next one! 👊🏼😃
Thanks Greg let’s get out there again soon! 🙌
Camp again soon I hope 🙏🏻
Loved the little Christmas tree. Looks like a fun overland Christmas.
Yes it was a good time with great friends. Thanks for watching! 🙏
Your new camera man is awesome
Thanks it had a few glitches but it was operator error on my part with the settings I chose. All in all I’m very pleased with it! Thanks for watching!
Gorgeous area looks like a great time good stuff as always be safe 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching Steve, it is a beautiful area to explore, I will be back!
Yeah buddy!
What a great trip Kevin! You have an amazing backyard to explore! 👍
Looked like fun and a very nice area.
Thanks for watching, definitely a fun area to explore!
Enjoyed every moment of this video Mike and absolutely loved seeing the area again, sweet camera too! I’ve been to Bald a fews times it’s been a couple years since and still looks amazing. I really missed out on this one and I hope to get on the next one. Merry Christmas 🎄🍻
Thanks Dustin let's try and get together next year for sure! This year went by so fast! Thanks for watching and we missed you there! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Great Video as usual, 6 years ago before purchasing my Gladiator went up with some buddies to bald mountain. Breath taking views as seen in your videos. I did not know there was camping up there. There's shaver lake around the corner from that restaurant you went with Greg.
Yes we drove by Shaver Lake on the way back, such a beautiful lake!
Great video and congrats on the new dji camera. Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks Manny Merry Christmas buddy! 🎄🇺🇸☃️
As soon as I heard you say "clicking noise" I was like "front driveshaft CV?" Lol mine only clicked in my JK while turning for some reason. 😅
Yeah I know its pretty common now. Was a good excuse to upgrade anyway!
Came over from the other video love all you guys together 😂you guys are so funny also such beautiful views 💖 happy holidays guys
Thanks we have some good times together, thanks for watching!
Great video! Wow, what a view from the top of the mountain! Your Pocket 3 worked great in tracking and audio. I have a pocket 1 which I use for general videos and time lapses. Safe travels and Merry Christmas!
Thanks for the nice comments Ralph! Yes I am super impressed with the Pocket 3 and may do a separate review on it once I use it a bit more. So far so good!
You guys camped at one of the better spots for sure and I can vouch for the steepness of that hill you descended, it's no joke.
Thanks for backing me up! It seemed pretty steep to me!
Excellent video Mike! Looks too cold for me but I’m happy to watch your winter overland trips. Keeps me entertained till Spring!
Thanks so much Alex!
Looks awesome!
I hope to make it there eventually.
I’m at the base of Lake Tahoe on the Nevada side 😁
Not such a bad area for overlanding, love the Lake Tahoe area! Check out my "Solo" video if you havent already!
Awesome camp location, I look forward to watching your videos. BTW have anyone told you that you look like Gregg Popovich?
Thanks for watching, and no one has mentioned that resemblance before, but I can see why you mentioned it!!!
Good video 👍
Thanks I really appreciate it!
Man I really loved everything about this episode Mike. Beautiful shots. The landscape is just so stunning there. Also the tracking on the DJI Osmo is great! Now I want one hahaha. Were you using that for the inside the cab driving shots too? If so how did you mount it?
Thanks Caleb! Still learning how to use the Pocket 3. Had some quirks due to operator error but still love what I will be able to do with it. One thing I have not tried is the ability to do motion Timelapse’s where the gimbal moves. Regarding the inside vehicle shots some but not all were with the Pocket 3. There is a GoPro style mount that is made for the device.
The more of these overland trips I watch, the more I want to get a rig for it. YJ is too small and the LJ a little too inconvenient. Indeed, it does resemble the rubicon a bit, the easy part😂🤙🏻
Yes for sure the easy part! Where you aren’t breaking something every 200 yards! 🤣🤘
@@flyfisher530 fortunately my YJ made it thru 2 times with just a dent in the budget rock slider tubes. One on each trip🤣. Never took the LJ as I just got it in 2020. No lockers on it but 35’s and a long arm lift
@@jeeperguy4290 That is cool you have done it twice. I have only been on the easy sections and turned back. Someday I will do it but I will take off the RTT and doors because I have one heavy rig as it is.
@@flyfisher530 I went on the Jeep jamboree USA trips both times, trail guides at the tough parts, mechanics on site if needed(just pay for any parts needed). 2 nights in rubicon springs with full on dinners and lunch. It’s well worth it, no one left behind. People from all over the country to meet and talk to. I highly recommend it for the peace of mind. Only caveat now is they require 37’s now.😩my yj went thru on bfg a/t 33’s no problem. Not sure why the change, but they are definitely catering to the Jk & JL community now. That’s ok though, I’ve done it.
@@jeeperguy4290 Wow I had not heard that about requiring 37's for the JJ, but that would definitely be a fun way to do it with mechanics on-site.
Sous vide to 140!? blasphemous!
I know right!? But OMG it was good! Thanks for watching!
@@flyfisher530 I usually go 120,, max 125. Hot tip. Next time you are at the Carson hot springs... try sous vide'ing in the hot spring creek up that little canyon! bring a thermometer and try to find a spot that's like 120-125. I think it comes out of the ground at like 130*.. just make sure your steaks are vac sealed.
@@BigDoeJ424 Awesome thanks for the tip!
Hahah, ya, I was originally aiming for 136. But given the thickness of the steaks and the outdoor temp being 32 or lower, I wanted to be sure to not give anyone food poisoning. 😜
