    This mark looks like a place i used to go fishing on Holiday each year, not that my wife liked us going to the same place each year! Not that i will say its your grounds, caught loads of bass on the surface there, i always painted my lures to look like wrasse a top bait in that area, not been there for 3 years since i lost my wife to Cancer, will one day. Good video brings back great memories.

    Always enjoy your videos. Very honest and always something to learn. Re tackle, I am not a tackle tart but I like to buy quality, especially in the reel department. Hate the idea of having to replace a reel every few years. I’ve been using Daiwa Certates since 2004. I have three 3000 models. They haven’t missed a beat but admittedly they haven’t been fished hard for the last 10 years.

Decided to swap rods & put some bait out, same happened after an hour or so, lost the lot, line snapped just above shock leader. Decided to put rod away as no spare shock leader but stayed chatting to the guy I was fishing with. An hour later, tide had gone out & spotted lure in a foot of water with our headlights. Hi my friend, I am a new subscriber to your fantastic channel, and I'm just getting into lure fishing.
    I am getting back into sea fishing in general, and I have been going through my sea fishing tackle to see what is good and what needs replacing due to the last time I went was over 10 years ago!
    Going through my sea fishing tackle, I came across my NEW never used Abu Garcia telescopic 12ft spinning rod, which says on the side it can cast between 50 and 100g. Would this rod be ok to use for Bass lure fishing, or do you think a 12ft rod is a bit long?

    Hi Matt, the lure that you got snagged, the Komomo 125, the colour you are using is it the "clear crown" or "creamy chart" they look very similar when buying, you seem to have great success with this lure colour.

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  Před 3 lety

      Hi Graham, creamy chart but an old worn version of I remember. It’s worth remember bass eyesight is considered more focused on outlines, shapes profiles, light and dark . So it’s my guess (and I don’t really know !) that there’s no difference between similar colours where a fast moving bass is concerned ?

    Hi mate,
    Probably a silly question but does the sea need to be practically flat for lure fishing ? Or can you have success with a lure in any type of surf ? Cheers

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  Před 3 lety

      You can catch in surf and coloured water definitely. It’s the wave and tide action that the bass take advantage of baitfish. Generally a bit of chop on the water is preferable however locally here flat water can be good. Bass can spot that lure for sure.

    Was you going to say at the end when got the lure. Great though as it saved me £30? Jeeze . Also what gram lures are you using? I'm looking at getting a new rod for makeral but want to cast that further distance. Shimano do a 50g / 100g rod . Will 50g spinners be too big for saltwater fishing of the coastline? Thanks

      18g ish for most lures shape and profile can make a difference too. 50g is fine with those 50g rods

      @@SaltwaterAngler do you think 50g / 100g rod is overkill? Currently have a 12g to 54g rod and its well flexible. I think its because I'm a carp Fisherman and used to fishing 85g weights . Allwayd thought further out is better 🤔

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  Před 2 lety +1

      Ask ourselves where do predatory fish expect to find bait fish. Are the points where bass could sit and dart out in to the running water. Where does the lure sit in the water - for example you don’t see many (bait) fish working in to the current

    What 1b braid do you have on your 2500 Shimano Sedona then you’re 20 1b fluorocarbon shock leader goes straight to the braid ? And you then tie that to your spinner ?

      18lb braid on to no less than 4ft of fluro using a uni to uni knot or an f.g (if I can be bothered) then a breakaway mini lure clip - perfect !

      Polarised with an amber lense for inshore shallow water - as for brands i tend to go cheap as I will break or loose one or two a season. For top quality check out Costa, but actually Polaroid make some good ones and bole used to but hard to find in a amber lense

    What weight do you use with the weedless soft plastic or do you just use the weight of the lure to cast

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  Před 3 lety +1

      Good question - for these sort of marks that are shallow and distance casting isn’t necessary then I use it weightless. It offers a much more natural pattern and can be retrieved slowly it looks great . Occasionally a 1/8 oz on the shank is enough weight

      Hi billy, you can have mono all the way through. I prefer the sensitivity of braid although it’s not without problems - wind knots and runs on rocks.

    The wind makes no difference and won't hold fish anywhere

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  Před 2 lety

      You are wrong. The wind Direction and strength makes a big difference in many ways. Here a Northerly for example leads to clearer water, as the wind comes off the land sediment and gulley water can clear. Catch rates improve in this scenario. South westerlies give us bigger breakers pushing against the rocks, this often leads to dislodged Lug, Razor and crabs. Wind direction is one of the most important factors to Lure fishing.

      @@SaltwaterAngler I'm not wrong, you are. Wind transfers energy not water the water doesn't move, it oscillates. Do you believe a wave moves from far out at sea and ultimately ends up breaking at your feet on the shore?

      we adress this issue in the latest video ! I think there are real diffrences to feel and weight balance that are helped by spending a bit more but there are diminishing returns after about the £60 mark for reels and £80 for rods.
