Emmylou radiates true beauty of the heart from inside out; she is still the exquisite and gracious beauty that captured my heart when I saw her picture on the cover of Elite Hotel. I pray that it's her voice I hear when the angels come to sing me home; with any luck Linda and Dolly will do the harmonies.....

As if one could not admire Emmylou more, I learn of her efforts to save dogs from being euthanized. Watched this video with my 14 year, 9 month, 26 day old (but who's counting?) Lucy snoozing at my feet. Got her when I was 49-my first dog/healer. When the time comes to let her go, I'll be playing Linda Ronstadt's cover of Karla Bonhoff's "Goodbye My Friend" as she slips away.
Thank you, Joe, for bringing Emmylou into my home tonight. Just what I needed.

I bought a Gibson J150 because of Emmy Lou. It was a big purchase for me. It's not a J200 but looks like and sounds sounds wonderful. Emmy Lou with that BAG guitar (big ass guitar) is such an inspiration to me as a novice guitar player since 12 years old. I'm 65 now and find such solace in her songs, voice and life story. Thank goodness we have Emmy Lou. I'm so fortunate to exist on this planet with and her many gifts.

I met her once backstage in Southern California when she dropped in to say high to Hoyt Axton. She was very sweet and I remember her leaving a small rose for Hoyt after she left and she had me give it to Hoyt, which I did between sets. He put the rose on the neck of his guitar and played the next set with it there. It was just a slice in time. The funny thing was that Hoyt had a song When The Morning Comes that Linda Rondstadt sang background vocals on and shortly after having Hoyt, I booked Linda for an early stop on her Heart Like a Wheel tour. Great interview.

Thanks again Joe & Emmylou thank you so much for the great music through the years and may there be many more good times yet to come. I'm 69 now & enjoy singing and playing cover tunes at open mics. Last year when I was with my doctor at the VA clinic he asked me how much longer I would like to live. I was 68 then and I said, gee, I'd love to have another 20 years taking me to 88. I told him because I am having so much fun learning songs and singing and playing guitars, it's like I don't want this party to end yet. The doctor gave me some tips on how to remain healthy. I'd like to ask why no one -and I mean NO ONE - talks about Dan Fogelberg? Emmylou Harris sang on his record, he knew Linda Ronstadt, the Eagles, and a lot of other world-class musicians. He was Irving Azoff's first client. He spent time in Nashville as a session player. Joe Walsh produced his second album. He was close friends with Timothy Schmit who played in his road band and had a very successful career with legions of fans. He wrote really great songs.

New Year’s Day, and I’m sitting here just loving these videos. I’m old enough to remember ELH when she first took off, but surprisingly this HOF interview (pt 1&2) is really the first time I’ve ever seen in in-depth interview with her to the point of actually hearing this amazing woman’s views articulated so honestly, elegantly, and personally. I always thought of her as a beautiful person blessed with a wonderful gift, but what a lovely soul she is too. Joe, you’re really a tremendously warm host and special interviewer. Thanks for recording and sharing another great historical video for us!

One of my fave memories is from 1975, when I was taking a summer audio engineering course in Rochester NY at the Eastman School of Music, and Emmylou came thru town in support of her first album. One of the teachers knew her band, and arranged to have them come in and give a little talk about their lives in music. After class, some of us went out for drinks with them at a local watering hole. I ended up having a very pleasant chat with James Burton in particular. Unfortunately - I think because I was low on cash - I didn't go to Emmylou's show that night. But I did catch her and the band in Vancouver a year or so later. By that time, Burton had left, replaced by Albert Lee. I believe Rodney Crowell was also a new addition to the band.

I would love to see you interview Patrick Simmons of the Doobies. Such a fascinating musician. His roots are across Monterey Bay in Santa Cruz. His instrumentals like Steamer Lane Breakdown and Slack Key Soquel Rag are my favorites. One of those artists who you can describe as the glue that holds a band together. Helping get the most out of both Tom Johnston and Michael McDonald. Hope you can do this at some point.

Very true about producing, engineering, and playing. They are in different head spaces and it’s hard to try to do two or three of the jobs at once. I use tape and find that engineering is enough of a job that I can’t concentrate on production at the same time. Great interview!
