    The Little Prince is the eptitome of "Bittersweet": A story about preserving the joy of childhood innocence, but also the empty bitterness of adulthood and the realization that someday, we will also have to let the naive little child we used to be go. I'm not overstating it when I say this book changed something inside me after reading it.

    • @Fairygoblet
      @Fairygoblet Před 8 měsíci +87

      I always thought that the whole " you need to leave behind your entire childhood is this Mystical, inaccessible place" was complete nonsense. Holding onto your childhood is like visiting a place that you last saw when you were very young: still technically the same as it was, but informed by your new perspective as an adult. I think that the book does a good job of showing how important this balanced perspective is.
      Interestingly, this phenomenon is present within the book itself. There are some statistics that are a bit outdated in this book oh, like the amount of space you could pack the entire human population into. The point that it's less than we think still stands today, but we had far less than eight billion people back then, and the book reflects this.

    I ADORE The Little Prince story.
    Little fun-fact/story of mine:
    Back in a day when I was 11 I had very strict rules in my house and one of them was that I had to read book for 2-3 hours. The issue was that I had only 5 books and one of them was The Little Prince. I didn't enjoyed the other 3 (the 4th was actually good but it was too long story) so I always ended up reading The Little Prince almost every day but surprisingly I never got bored. The book is now kind of part of my childhood and I will never forget the way I was able to cry from time to time reading the book, even now after years reading the same exactly book about friendship and big imagination. The Little Prince is one of the most well-written stories ever, Its pure imagination sparks interest in a child's mind yet also appeals to older audiences, making them reflect themselves along with the ones in the movie, it is almost like a mockery of what the adult life is, making you realize you have started to care of other's opinion on you not knowingly, that you gained the need of pride, wealth and power, losing the pureness of a child you once were.
    We shouldn't live in other people's shadows, nor be lost in power, submerged in pride, hungry for wealth, and live to impress others. To live a life fully for yourself and to cherish it. No matter what you do, there will be one day when all of you is forgotten by the world, nothing left from your life remains, so why not live a life you fully enjoy and leave no regrets.
    I read The Little Prince once when I was 10, I returned to this book 8 years later to find myself not only reading a fantasy, but more.

      I love how the movie not only depicted the actual story, but it does so through the lens of the kind of person it’s meant for; a little girl burdened with school by her mother in order to prepare herself for the future. Not only is it a cool meta way to explore the original story, but it also gives us a relatable character to help us better connect with the story. I didn’t think too much when I first saw it, but I’ve appreciated the movie a lot more for how much it built off of the original story after learning that the story didn’t have some of those things.

    So... some detail, that weren't necessary for the video, that's why they were cut out I assume, but some detail that i find important.
    The man, the aviator is Saint Exupéry, it's a book told as if a real story which is pretty great in my opinion^^ Also, there's another character in the book, the snake. The one that will let the little prince go back to his world.
    See, the little is simply to heavy now, so the snake will bit him and thus, discarding the flesh, the little prince will rise up.

    Awwww. I haven't watched this yet, but I already love the title. Fixing our hearts, about a year after you broke them with "The Ocean At The End Of The Lane" and SCP 1762 (and yes, I cried over both of those). The thumbnail even looks super similar to the one you used for "This Story Will Ruin Your Childhood" (the video about "The Ocean At The End Of The Lane." I went and read the book after listening to that video, and it hit even harder. Thanks).

    A lot of my friends are in a production of “The Little Prince” that’s in the near future, but I hadn’t read the story in a while and I found it confusing when I did. Even as a kid, I was pretty close to the grown ups in the story, but I wasn’t able to critically read literature yet, so I never really understood it. Thanks for explaining it so beautifully! I’m gonna go read it again.

    I remember reading this one. My grandpa was deadset on me finishing it, and I did. It was a school afternoon, in class. I had finish all my homework and the teachers had nothing to give me, so they gave me a copy of the little prince. There, that day I finished it.
    I did not remember any of these thing you said. I only remember the fox, the rose, the man with the streetlantern and the pilot. But I do remember a character that you didn't mention. A Snake that made me cry for a week straight. I think I should re read this, now that I have grown. It's good, tho, that this story that now I understand better gave me the feelings of sadness and pain it gave me, I felt relaly happy once I tamed my first dog.

    I grew up watching the TV series and now I want to read the book! Thanks so much for choosing this story!
    I remember always adopting a 'Hold everything! The Little Prince is on!' attitude whenever I heard the opening theme tune. Being a program directed at pre/early teens, it covered a lot of topics on how to be a good adult (or person, I suppose), but I loved that the solution to any problem the Little Prince encountered almost always involved taking the most simplistic and child-like option - basically using a kind of child-like maturity to solve problems caused by adults being too 'adult'.

    Ever since Ive heard this story, I’ve tried my hardest to keep my inner child alive. But sometimes, I worry about what others would think. I fell uncomfortable when watching kids movies, or discussing a more childish topic around other people, so, I usually try to hide those things that I love, and pretend that I don’t care for such things. If anyone has advise about it, I’d really appreciate it.❤

    • @s31888
      @s31888 Před 8 měsíci

      Well, I think the story itself shows us how to get through that shame! Grown-ups may see many things that children do not, and the things they appreciate are often more "complex" or "serious" than those that children enjoy. However, just like the drawing of the snake eating the elephant, and the sheep in its box, all well-thought-out "childish" art and topics touch a very true and important part of ourselves: the simple feelings and lessons of the heart. That, I think, is why children's stories will sometimes have such a great impact on us, even when they're not that profound. Seeing the hero win against the villain, the princess find what she desires, or simply good morals triumph over the evils and contradictions of the world... it's powerful, if your heart is still ready to listen to these beautiful stories.
