Glad you enjoyed the song. I was Tour Manager for the band back then. And you were right, it was the 70's when the band was at the high point. Ruby, Harvey and Ricky the guitar players have all passed. As well as guitar player Jimmy Henderson who replaced Harvey after that recording. Jim Dandy is still Rockin. Tommy Aldridge the drummer went on to play with Ted Nugent, Ozzy Osborne and White Snake. Jim Dandy was an old song originally done by Lavern Baker. BOA version was produced by Tom Dowd (Google him!) Thanks for the shout out! Rock

I have a funny, true story about Black Oak Arkansas. I was a junior at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 1971. I was heavily involved in the TV production classes during those years. We recorded a 30 minute music show at the SIUE studio that aired on one of the TV stations in St. Louis every Saturday night. The groups we recorded were mostly local bands, but one time Black Oak Arkansas was appearing in St. Louis, and somehow our TV department convinced them to come over to our studios at SIUE and record one of our 30 minute shows. They were just starting to get big nationally and I guess since the show would air on St. Louis TV they thought it would give them more good publicity. So incredibly, they came over and did a 30 minute show in our studio. I ran one of the studio cameras for the entire show. At one point, there was a break in the recording as they decided which songs to finish the show with. While we were waiting around in the studio, the bass player came over to me and looked at the studio camera and said, "Hey man, how do you work this thing? Show me how to run this thing." So, I showed him how everything worked on the camera, and he grabbed it and started zooming around the studio with it. Finally he stopped, and with a big grin on his face, said to me, "Hey, this is fun, man. You know what, I want to run this thing on the next song. Can I run camera on the next song?" I laughed and said, "Well, that's OK with me, but who's gonna play bass?" He stopped and thought for a second, then he turned to me and said, "Well hey, do you know how to play guitar?" I laughed again and said, "No, I really wish I did. But I don't think Jim Dandy would want me on bass anyway." He laughed and said, "No, I guess not. Well, thanks for letting me play around with it. Now, be sure you get some good shots of me on the next song, man." I said, "Oh don't worry, I got you covered." True story. They were great guys and fun to be around. They treated us like we were pros instead of just students. Great memory of my college days so long ago.

FUN FACT-The #1 grossing touring act of 1972 was BOA. Where bigger bands like Zeppelin, Stones, Elton etc played 50 shows a year, BOA played over 300 shows a year. The even had their own incorporated city in the Ozarks with it's own post office and zip code. BTW Jim "Dandy" Mangrum was lead vocalist.

The town of Black Oak Arkansas was there before the band. That's where they are from and named band after the town. It's not in the Ozarks either. It's in the Delta of northeast Arkansas.

This song was a classic by LaVern Baker in 1955 reached number 17 on the pop charts and number 1 on the r&b charts. It's weird that again somebody requested the cover version.
