    Always always always take a check list, and a pen to write down any ideas for gear or whatever that crosses your mind while hunting

    We do the same for our whitetail trip to the mountains of NC every November. I'm looking for a new pack and have been looking at the Alpz brand a lot but have seen your pack a time or two pop up and will check into them.

      Mystery Ranch also makes great packs in the Marshall or metcalf , give them a look. I have a alps day pack I love but I can’t say the quality is up to snuff with both the mystery ranch or exo.

    Yea the sleeping bags that don’t insulate the bottom stink. Don’t know if I should buy an insulated pad or just sell the bag

      An insulated pad made a massive difference for me in idaho this year. Give it a try. I made sleeping way more enjoyable and comfortable.

    Buddy and I are starting a 2 year plan if you will. Lol. We are east coasters. Do you recommend a particular state? Seems like Colorado might be the easiest. Thanks for the info!

      From my experience, Colorado gets a lot of hunting pressure and I haven’t seen the elk numbers that they claim are there in the 3 times I’ve hunted it. My opinion, you try to get a high percentage draw unit in Colorado, put in for New Mexico since you don’t need points, or hunt OTC in Idaho. If you haven’t used gohunt, it’s a great resource to narrow down your picks for states and units within those states. Thanks for the question!

      Been elk hunting from mid 70s Idaho’s elk numbers are ok but not as good as they used to be do to wolves being reintroduced. New Mexico is great choice and Colorado if you do your research and if you do OTC 3rd 4th season for rifle can be very productive just my advice but remember only about 10%harvest and most new hunters unless lucky will take average of 3 years before they are successful. Sorry hard facts good luck do your research

      I think if people say the wolves and grizzlies have ruined Idaho hunting, you just aren’t hunting the right areas. There’s no shortage of
      Elk in Idaho and I think the elk have adapted to the predators and learned how to avoid them. Very similar to the coyotes is the East, deer used to avoid them like the plague, now they’ve learned to live among them

      @sheerwillsurvival2064 Před 3 lety +1

      Hunt Fish Shoot that sounds like the words of a liberal tree hugging hippie not a hunter. But from I man who’s hunted ALL over Idaho from 1974 and killed 33 bull elk I can tell you the elk numbers have fallen in areas where wolves have been released. You can see numbers on Idaho’s fish and game site yes elk and deer move and adapt but they are being depredated that’s why Idaho has so many wolf tags and you can even use your elk tag on wolves, some areas that are not over run with wolves do have good numbers of elk ect but to say they aren’t make a big difference is ludicrous and I don’t mean the rapper most of the folks who live in Idaho will agree accept for the libtards

      @@HuntFishShootChannelwas thinking of doing CO this year and worried about the pressure so actually started looking into Idaho......now I'm not looking for specific spots or even units but where would be a good place to start to do research on? Northern panhandle? Mid? Or closer to Mideast?

  • @sheerwillsurvival2064

    Y’all going north Or central Idaho not asking for unit just zone out of curiosity

      It’s going to be northeast Idaho! Thanks! We are gear junkies at heart! It’s half the fun of prepping for out west.

      It’s is a lot of fun my wife says my autopsy will read died with too much gear in his pack . Unit 1 is full of grizzlies being so close to glacier national park the north east Idaho good hunting and lot of brush and wait a minute vines .have fun I’ll be in the frank this year again 👊🏻

    • @HuntFishShootChannel
      @HuntFishShootChannel  Před 3 lety

      Hahha I think our wives think the grizzlies will eat us since the area we are in is loaded with them! That’s ok we like it! It scares some weary hunters away! Good luck 👍

    • @sheerwillsurvival2064
      @sheerwillsurvival2064 Před 3 lety +1

      Right the units me and the wife hunt in have about 20 grizzlies so it’s not too bad but I’ve hunted all North Idaho back in the 70s 80s the hunting was good but too many on atvs wrecked it for me so now I hunt primitive back country areas no atvs allowed its less elk but less yahoo’s running around 😁 my motto for hunting around bears is be prepared not scared
