Thank you Sandra for sharing this interview. I've recently stumbled upon Rival Sons and am blown away by their music and really respect where they are coming from. I think Jay is such a great singer and their music is actually timeless. I grew up on classic rock and I am so appreciative that Rival Sons exist in this day and age! I never dreamed that I would come across a band that brings me the same kind of joy and excitement I felt when I was growing up! Jay really comes across as the real deal, and that is a breath of fresh air during these times. I really hope that more people become aware of and appreciate Rival Sons and I wish them as much success as possible!

These guys have revived Rock N Roll out of it's fatal coma!
I hope their latest album _Feral Roots_ makes it to number 1 w/ a bullet !!!
P.S: Jay is the _Robert Plant + Jimi Hendrix_ of our generation as far as _fashion + style_ goes; and as a _vocalist_ - he is in a league of his own, and probably one of the greatest Ive had the pleasure of listening to during the last decade!

Fantastic interview! Jay is very articulate and concise. However, I disagree with his political bit. I have seen and read countless testimony from Border patrol about the influx of illegal immigration. This is NOT a racial issue, it’s a real issue. All countries have strict immigration laws for a reason. Do you lock your door at night to protect your family, or do you leave it wide open?

    • @gregorydavidson177

I agree completely! I love this band, but if he thinks drinking water is more of an issue than our boarder's, then I find that pretty small minded. Drinking water in Michigan, or any state, is a problem within their own states local politicians. I would bet anytime that, crime in Michigan is a way bigger problem than drinking water. Not trying to start a political debate, but that sure is a poor example of comparison.

I still love rival sons and try to keep an open mind. However i dont agree with all musicians i listen to nor do i expect they have to agree with me!! And it "is" embarrassing to be an American and have 100,000+ people illegally crossing our borders and into our country illegally and the left doesn't think that's a crisis that needs fixing ASAP. Border patrol is overwhelmed, kids are being used as pawns and recycled by drug runners and coyotes, with their info written on their shoes. Meanwhile we already have 500,000 homeless Americans struggling to find food and shelter tonight. The DEMs priorities are clear and political, and citizens are #2 on their list. Crazy times.

The problem with musicians and politics is that they believe because people like their music all of a sudden their political views must be injected into their music to guide their fans. Bullshit. People escape through music. If a band wants to be CNN blasting their opinions on everyone go do it and leave the music to people who want to show their artistry at music. Because baby, if your opinions are the same as every fucking talking head on tv, you aren’t different or counterculture you’re just main stream media, sorry. And yes, you will lose fans because people love rock and roll for the rebellion, for the balls, for the real world of love, spirituality, and dealing with the bullshit of life, not being lectured on who they should vote for or how to believe political bullshit. But hey, you be you, it’s your gig. Wanna sing about #orangemanbad go for it and join all the other NPC artists, you’ll still make your money. It’s cool.

Problem 1003 compared with illegal immigration, which is Problem #1. You're a great singer with a powerful voice, but you're a little out of touch with working man issues. Do you think we don't pay for it when people get "free" health care? Its free for them, not free for U.S. If you ride in a limo, don't talk politics.

I for one, have all but become furious with all these people in showbusiness, trying to force us, and feed us their political opinions the way they do. They come off as though we should follow them, do as they do, think as they do and feel as they do. It's okay for them to have an opinion, but put it in your song's. I won't listen to them preach to me about it. I understand everybody has a microphone, and their own television shows nowadays, and we all have a way to voice our views, but the hollyweirdos have an unfair advantage over the minds of people, in how they can influence a mind, especially when it's a young mind in a current state of development. Young kids look up to these people, and put them on pedestals, because of trend's, and popularity. It's not fair, and they should be given the chance to think for themselves, not be influenced by some famous pop star that they idolize.

Well...Jay should should stick to music....Flint Michigan' s water problem was due to switching their water source in an attempt to save money in 2014 while Obama still had two years left his second term. However in Obama's defense, this was a State and local issue falling completly on the shoulders of Michigan's Governor and the local elected officials of Flint. For Jay to make a statement implying that the Trump administration was too busy " spending money building a wall on our southern border when Michigan residents didn't have proper drinking water is a perfect example why musician's and actors should stick to their areas of expertise or at least get their facts together before spewing stupid shit in interviews....oh well.....Jay.....I hope you are proud of the current administration and have a strong Haitian fan base....sincerely....former Rival Sons fan. P.S....maybe the Taliban can help out Flint with their water issue....hell they have BILLIONS of our tax payers equipment at their disposal surely they can concoct a solution....

All you have to do is change the pronouns and then the wool pulled over ones eyes will see. Say for instance that in two generations Mexico's majority would be either El Salvadorians(which they hate) or even say Caucasian and then ask a Mexican rocker if their President wanting to build a wall made him a Racist/Bad Man, And you would have the very same people who call Orange Man Bad for doing it, all of a sudden agreeing 100%, This is a very easy exercise to see if you are brain washed and how bad it is, It's also the easy way to judge Equality, All you do is change the Pronoun(You know Pronouns, Something that if you don't use the correct one in some western places, you can be fined or arrested for not doing)

It isn’t about losing money, it’s about letting down your fans by giving your opinion on things that while you have a right to your opinion it certainly isn’t going to match a lot of others. Why offend anyone? It leaves a bad taste and will make people feel disrespected. I don’t care what your views are and I don’t want to hear them, just bring the music.

Musicians can be political if that is their passion but most are just ignorant clones who have not even bothered to research the subject areas they speak about. and come on everyone could not have exactly the same opinion. if they did their music the same way they did their politics they would be out of business. basically, he just repeated the same exact sound bites that everyone does. he should have been honest and said I really have not given the subject much thought and I really do not know or really care

NO... n i dont want my music mix with political views either PERIOD. Dont do it. I go to have a good time and get my mind off of shit, no to have it brought up on my dime... sorry i dont like it. I will always see them when they get close and now that I got my passport plan to go see them in Europe in 2020. I wish he wouldn’t trash Trump. @cavdragoon Před 5 lety

First and foremost I have seen this band and met its members numerous times starting as far back as 2010. Second a musician's music is their art and therefore is put out there for the listeners interpretation. No artist tells their viewer, or listener in this case what to see and hear. That's part of the beauty of art.Third no one should preach politics to anyone. It creates alienation, segregation and division to the individual on the receiving end who may not have the same beliefs or views. Performers need to get out and perform. Give the world their art. That is what they are paid for. People don't come to be preached to about the performers "personal" beliefs. Leave the politics aside and to yourself and just play the music.
