Left a lot of meat behind on that turtle. There's tenderloin on both sides of the spine absolute best part of the turtle. Small side cutters work great to get the loin out. I usually clean snapping turtles that are a fair bit bigger making the extra work worth the time. You can cut the shell open and there is a fair bit more meat in there. You need a bypass lopper (tree branch trimmer) with long handles. Also cleaning the entire turtle allows you to collect any eggs there might be. We always bury the eggs by the water and they hatch as normal. Obviously wouldn't recommend that with an invasive turtle however

It's like your chest and hips don't move, but your pecs and glutes still move your limbs, don't let him do the butchering anymore, he's not too bright. Maybe he can donate his pecs and glutes out since he thinks body muscles don't move the limbs.

We pour boiling water in between the top and bottom shell softening the shell and run a knife in between then remove the top from the bottom you can eat heart and liver legs and the best part is that two strips of meat on the top shell under the thin rib like bones and the neck unbelievable the tail has a lot of meat in it . I don't know about that particular species of turtle but the snappers in Michigan are absolutely to die for I like to smoke them but over s fire is there anything better

With snapping turtles you've gotta open those shells up, there's more good stuff inside, particularly on the bigger ones. A hatchet is the tool for the job.

Chris Gilliam Trapping I'll have to give that a try next time, thanks for the tip.
I remember my grandma showing my brother in law how to clean a snapping turtle (maybe 16" across, a pretty good sized one).
"Jason, go get the pitchfork and hatchet from the shed."
She put it on the ground, stepped on it from behind, forcing its head out. Pitchfork through the neck behind its head to pin it down and keep its head in place (could probably use a sturdy forked stick, but I like my fingers), then hatchet to take its head off. Gave it a minute to stop thrashing then flipped it up on its tail and used the hatchet to separate the plastron from the carapace on either side. From there it's pretty obvious what's what.

Add spices you like. boil it slowly until done. the longer in hot water and spice the better, cook it slow. Take the meat out. keep the water. Roll the meat in white flour and them fry it until its brown and crispy. take the meat out of the fryer. them add some flour to the fryer and brown it a little. add the water from the boilling to make gravy. then drop the meat back in the gravy. eat it over rice.

For everyone who says this is cruel and unfair, look at it like this... what is more fair? Getting meat from a store where most of the animals lived their life for the meat? Or someone legally going out and giving the animal an equal opportunity of weather it gets hunted or not? There is a difference between hunting for game and hunting for trophy or poaching. Learn the difference and accept that hunting is completely fair game.

Tlahuicole XIII definitely not in a club unless you want a yuppie girl. I can tell you this. For your first date, take her camping. This will tell you EVERYTHING about her. On our first date, my bf and I went camping. I started walking a trail while he took a nap, and when he woke up, I was fishing and trying to restart the fire while he was recuperating from his nap. If she hyperventilates from the fire you start, keep looking, if she is scared to eat a fish you caught or tough it even, keep looking. We can’t rely on the ‘typical’ life everyone wants. In the end, it is survival of the fittest. Do you want a woman who can endure anything and stay alive long enough to flourish with her family or a woman who relies on a air conditioning and fast food and the newest social media trend? Keep looking! She’s out there.

I love turtles. As someone who keeps diamond back Terrapins, various sliders, snapping turtles, alligator snapping turtles and other reptiles, there is nothing immoral or even insensitive at all about what you guys are doing. It's easy to be a self righteous vegan in today's very comfortable, technological age. Vegans have no idea how many thousands of squirrels and critters die for their tofu to grow unscathed. Ignorance is bliss.

Mitch McMitch unfortunately they were completely incorrect about it being invasive in Texas though. They are completely native in all regions of Texas. They can be considered a nuisance but not invasive. All habitat and range maps I have looked at have shown red eared sliders to be native. Also the Texas wildlife conservation site ceases to cite it as invasive species. So they unfortunately made a misinformed mistake.
