That's a good album... very high fidelity for dungeon synth. Excited to see some parts of the genre moving away from the retro-aesthetics, as much as I love them
For a more clean, folkish sound, there are many many great bands for 90s, early 2000s, sometimes called neofolk back in time, but goes for other names, and substyles. If you want some suggestions just ask. I am not an expert or whatever, but listened a ton of that music. I am not saying I dont like Dim, I have all the 3 tapes :D . But you made think about all that music I listened many years ago.
I think neofolk won't hit the same nerve, because DIM still has a decidedly synth style to it. The bassline in the first track, or that fading Rebec in Mound-dweller is something I would never expect in pseudo-traditional instrumental music. But if you have suggestions, I'm always open to hear cool stuff.
This is *so* underrated, absolutely the best Dungeon Synth I've ever heard. Dark but still full of adventure. So memorable and deeply rhythmic in a way the genre rarely is. I also love how the tracks are arranged on the album. Not every track fits into this perfectly, but there's some alternation between darker, heavier, more electronic tracks and calmer tracks with more traditional instrumentation, which gives the listener some time to breathe and relax. And the quality is super consistent all the way through! Such an amazing album imo, I wish this got more recognition.
@@elgatochurro A very unique DS artist, popular because of the springtime, uncynical music he creates. DS is lovely, but one is spoilt for choice when it comes to gloom. When it comes to fresh adventure spirit, only Fief will do...
best dungeon synth ive ever heard. we need more tracks like these with actual beats and rhythms instead of so many atmospheric trance type stuff. i want some heavy or at least rockin shit made with medieval instruments that is actually good like this and not cringey
Truly my productivity is now peaking - fantastic. That initial synthy-base is somewhat reminiscent (at least to my own ears) of early BBS demos. Great album, great channel.
Everybody has elogiated the artist and this fantastic album,i cannot add nothing to what already has been said in the comments and i agree with every one of you. the art of the album cover is equally exquisite and very magical, does anyone can tell me the author of this wonderful picture?
While I agree that we have an underrepresentation of Dungeon synth artists from latin america and the south of Europe, I'll take the chance to point you towards relatively recent additions done by the archivist, namely Goblintropp (Argentina) and a personal favourite, Castle Zagyx (Spain). Following your request, I feel like we have an almost saturation of norse folk artists and I would absolutely love to have some people creating neofolk with pre-roman mediterranean cultures inspiration (or celt-iberian, macedonian...) just to have something to break out of the current norm!
@@TheDungeonSynthArchives I appreciate your attention! Sadly, I'm on this scene for less than a year; don't know many artists yet. Continue your dedication to quality above everything!

The band Lunar Shadow used it too for their Far From Light album.

@@geromestiller1604 Reminds me of 90’s PC games that were moving away from 8-bit & had a more authentic musical feel. Like the first Diablo.
You don't generally expect a dungeon synth album to be a banger, so this was a very nice surprise.

This is great. Dungeon Synth meets Electronica. I absolutely love this
Blessed be my day! A new Compendium, a grace from the Dungeon Archivist!
this is dungeon synth that doesn't numb my brain and make me sleepy
DIM seems to be departing from their Fief inspirations and growing into something very unique, but no less exquisite.
They seem to be exploring different themes and cultures, they had an album that sounded very Greek, this one is straight up Norse.
This really makes a statement. No fear about coloring outside of the lines.
What's fief?
