  • Had this gem of a DVD for a couple years, sharing it with you all as part of our "online archive system". We may be stuck at home and living through rough times, but we can still vicariously experience the beauty of this country that was won by the courageous men who conquered and built this great land and connected us through steel. Let the bad times strengthen you, and let these videos remind you why it's worth bonding this nation.
"Few rail adventures boast the rugged beauty and frontier spirit that the Alaska Railroad offers. The rails, ribbons of steel that weave their way through Alaska's history, bind the glacier-crowned coastal mountains to the soaring interior heights of Mt. McKinley, and the gold rush country surrounding Fairbanks.
This Alaska adventure begins on the Anchorage to Seward run. We journey down the Kenai Peninsula along the breathtaking Turnagain Arm. Through the Kenai Mountains, we travel an incredibly scenic route that is accessible only by rail. En route, we meet some memorable local characters and take a thrilling aerial tour of Kenai Fjords National Park.
From Seward, we voyage out into Resurrection Bay where killer whales, otters, and sea lions are a common sight and great blue glaciers groan and heave giant slabs of ice into the frigid waters."

The last time I visited Alaska was 1992. Time to head back ASAP. Great thing about this video is that really not much has changed at all. Thank you for posting.

A fantastic video of the Last Frontier! My wife and I were in Alaska with a tour group back in 2014 ( hard to believe now that it was that long ago already ), but we didn't have this particular area on our itinerary! We were in Anchorage for a day or so, then traveled on to Denali National Park ( breathtaking scenery! ) and onward, into Canada ; Whitehorse, Dawson City, Frasier, Carcross and south, back into the U.S. to Skagway, by rail on the White Pass/ Yukon Railway!
Your video captures some of the incredible sights and experiences that weren't included on our Alaskan journey, but, through viewing it, a lot of my memories of that 'once-in-a-lifetime' opportunity are rekindled and once more, I have rediscovered my love of Alaska! Her beauty called to me... I heard... and I followed my dreams! Thank you for sharing this great documentary!
If I am ever fortunate enough to return someday, I want to travel the Alaskan Railway...if only for the scenery and to hear Harry Ross! He'd make any trip an experience to remember!

Why have you uploaded this in 24p, was it actually shot on film? Even if it was, you did not remove the pulldown correctly, combing galore.

Kind of disappointed. The date states Premiered Jul 24, 2020, but the picture quality, hair styles, and clothing tells me this is footage from years ago. I was hoping for better quality video with a larger picture. But anything with Alaska is breath takingly beautiful.
