Same. I was a manual shift snob 20 years ago when I last drove. There were not a lot of automated manuals then, just powershift autoatics like in our cars and pickups. If I got back in the truck, I would definitely consider an automated manual I shift truck.

I just got back into OTR driving after a year and a half absence and I got one of these i-shifts. Never driving an auto truck other than an Allison dump truck. I have to say that these ishifts are kind of idiot proof and shift pretty well. Under light steady throttle they shift very consistent and smooth.

i had to go hep a buddy the other night he dropped a cup of coffee and lost his transmission, sad, but under driver seat the plug before it goes thru the floor simply got moisture in it. truck less than 80 k miles plug perfect shape. tried blowing in the plug a few times can not really do anything else small prongs no way to wipe them. but finally was able to get it to detect n. and start, but it was all out of sorts, ended up unplugging it putting heater on high and it solved the issue, Had to just shake my head, thought ok new truck and your dropping your coffee, but it is sad a cup of coffee on the floor could of cost a tow bill and a shop bill plus the time lost. i started with a dual stick tri/plex. thought easy shift was when we got air splitters, auto is nice and so is cruise control, but i would trade them in a instant to get rid of these sensors and everything else so a truck would be a issue free money maker again, Side note after he got home i looked at the plug again still could see no way it could of got wet but i still coated it in permatex, hopefully that will stop it from ever happening again

What is the diference between N1 and N2 on dashboard؟
N means neutral and the number is the gear that the truck is going to start with. You can change that number with the arrows up or down on the shifter.

Hi! If don’t have them you can’t shift manually. If this is your truck you can buy another shifter with the buttons and hook up to the computer to make it work.

The Volvo (and Mack m-Drive) are the best on the market and rarely get confused. But if they do they will make a quick correction and all will be good.

Hi Robin! Very interesting I never heard of that. Usually the drive axle with the parking brakes can get stuck. But the steer axle 🧐🤔. When you fix it let me know I’m very curios.
@@iTruckiTrailer hi I'm 👋 back so I fix it after trying 4x and looking at so many videos. I had stuck brake pads and also and also the hood was semi open from the mechanic leaving it open. Nothing was on the dashboard indicating any of those problems no alerts. I got under the tires and I beat the break Barrel with a hammer checked everything else and the hood was open Closed the hood. Now im back on the road 👍

Are there any issues if you switch it on neutral while driving? I see that roll option does it when going downhill but it does not do a good job si i like to do it myself. Is there any danger of breaking the gearbox?

Yes, there is an issue. It will go into neutral, but you can't get it back into drive without pressing the brake.
@@TheJollySkipper It goes back into gear without pressing the brake because these trucks do not have traditional automatic gearboxes. I think they are called automated gearboxes(very similar with a manual gearbox)
@@razva46 We have a 2012 VNL with an Ishift 12sp in our fleet. If you reach down and put it into neutral, it will NOT go back into drive without pressing the brake pedal. Are they all the same? It wouldn't surprise me if they weren't. But the one we have, will not do it.
I think it is not safe to do so.

I Driving I Shift Volvo since they released.
You didn't tell a couple things.
#1-When you got on D-Mode I seen on yellow dashscreen 4; that mean -you on the 4th gear and you can change lower or upper gear with +or - button.
#2 -While you Driving on D-Mode if you just driving straight or going on uphill,you may change gear pressing +or - like you driving Mechanical transmission, I do Always and passing a lot of trucks on uphill.
#3 If you driving on D-Mode you can any time change to M-mode and back to D mode.

All depends what software you have on your truck for the transmission. You can always upgrade it. You may have to replace the shifter as well.
I'm having issues with a 2016 Volvo FH440 I-shift not going into gears. Fault code " Air Dryer Malfunctioning" we replaced the air dryer, removed terminals 1hr but we still cant get gears and the fault code not disappearing.

I can’t tell you for sure but I know a guy he was working till 72. And when he started bumping things the company asked him to be evaluated by a doctor if he can still hold a CDL.

One thing to keep in mind is that never go down hill too fast if you climbed the hill in 9th gear that means you get down in 8th or lower.

Is there a "park" setting? For example, if I'm stopped at a long traffic light, can I put it in "park", or do I have to put it in "neutral" and set the air brakes? This is assuming I don't want to stay in gear with my foot on the brake pedal.
Hi! Very good question. Always pull the parking brake, you can live it in drive if at traffic light and rest your foot. Also is a good idea to use engine brake in “A” position (Automatic engine brake) this will please the transmission in neutral when driving if you will take your foot of the gas pedal and will go back in gear when accelerating.I have seen multiple accidents at truck stop when drivers place the transmission in neutral and shutoff their truck thinking that is going to go in park setting but unfortunately there is not such option and trucks ended up hitting the fences or cars.
Remember, this is a manual transmission that changes automatically, not an automatic transmission, so you treat it like a you would a stick shift. So, any time you would normally put a stick shift into neutral when waiting in traffic, you will do it with this box. There is also a hill start feature that holds the truck for a few seconds white the driver transitions from the foot brake to accelerator.
