    Nice work as always Johannes. That is some big money for the suspension but I’m sure it’s also an enormous improvement. Mind you, you’ll never really have an objective idea of what good suspension on an ADV bike is now because you have the Husky! Any time you get off the husky and onto the Yamaha, the T7 is going to feel like a wheelbarrow full of walruses!

      Thank you my friend!
      So far I’m really pleased with the suspension upgrades - expensive, yes, but I intend to keep this bike for a long time (I know I’ve said that before 😅) so I look at this as a long term investment.
      Yeah the Husky is a completely different beast, 50% the weight with great suspension - can’t be compared really!

    Hope you had a good ride on the husky😊how was Portugal?I did a 1 on 1 trip/training with Diogo again and it was great test riding the crf 300 l with the shock I intended to buy too.I went for the yss option and now ordered a stiffer spring for the fork.
    I am lucky to have a nice off-road track a minute away so can immediately see what all the mods do.Planning a early summer trip in the Tabernas desert area so driving the stock tyres into the ground now so I can fit the combo I bought already.Hope spring stays on in S Norway

      Portugal was amazing, I wish I could do a tour like that once a month!
      I got to ride the 300l with the stock shock. The YSS shock is worth its weight in gold. If it’s the YSS shock that is that good, or the stock one that’s that bad I’m not sure, perhaps a combination 😊 sounds like you’ve all set then, a good bike and trails in Spain, sounds like a dream. Ride safe Robert!

    hello my friend, i'm from portugal and i have a T700 too, with half the money you have a company in portugal called MXT racing suspensions that do similar or better work, more personal and directly for your purpose, the only difference is that they work the rear shock absorber. I had my suspensions prepared there and it looks like I have another bike, for a very hard adventure it's great. If you ask Diogo Guerra, he certainly knows. Continue these good videos and I hope to meet you one day here in Portugal.

      MXT, cool, pretty sure the fork legs on Diogo’s XT has MXT stickers on them. Great to hear that you’re happy with their work.

    Thanks for sharing Johannes. Like you I also experienced good suspension on H701 and AJP PR7. When having experienced this "floating" feeling and control - i cannot stop thinking about what the t700 could become with upgraded suspension. Looking forward to hear you gravel experiences. I have also ordered the open cartridge fork kit, but for now still sticking to the rear shock but with uprated spring for my weight. May I will see you at SKOG this year again - to compare t700 suspension experience? :)

      Exactly, «floating» is a precise description!

I have the rally raid open cartridge kit sitting in the box next to me waiting to find time to mount it. Unfortunately it arrived too late for SKOG - I would have loved to test it on the sandy parts - thinking it may have saved me from the crashing :)

      @JohannesDalen  Před rokem +1

      I most certainly did - Good to see you Jesper!
      So, there will be a proper review sometime in the future, but my experience with this suspension at Skog was simply amazing. Absolutely loved the bike with this setup and I couldn’t be happier. Another thing I liked is how much the suspension changed with just a few clicks, found the forks a bit too stiff but four clicks of reduced compression damping and it was perfect. Let me know how you like yours when you have it installed! 😁

    I decided to put off getting an ADV this year but with the money I didn't spend, I did do something I've been wanting to do for many years... I purchased upgraded suspension for my road touring bike. I sent everything out to have it built professionally, currently I don't have it back yet. For my $2400 I really hope the upgrade is as transformative of the ride and handling as everyone claims.

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  Před rokem

      Very interesting - please let me know how your road touring bike feels after the upgrade. Which bike is it by the way?
      When it comes to suspension upgrades like these, expectation can be a killer. If you expect a 2000$ improvement over stock, I think you’ll be disappointed, or at least can be. But having said that, this upgrade of mine is just great, and I’m loving the bike much more. Hope you’ll get happy man!

      @@JohannesDalen My tourer is a 2013 Victory Cross Country(I have plenty of videos with it on the channel) The bike is workhorse, its got 75k miles(121,000kms), it run perfect and is still rock solid. The rear shock was blown and the forks were ready for a major overhaul, I figured, if I was ever going to get the suspension upgraded, it was now or never 😉
      On the enduro side, I sold my 2016 Husky TE250 and bought a 2022 KTM 250XC-w... I love the new bike. I thought the TE was good in our terrain but the new KTM blows it away in every aspect.

  • @socaladventure2340

    I upgraded the suspension with the Rally Raid open cartridge front and uprated spring for the rear stock shock and it was a massive improvement, almost a different bike. Now I'm tempted to try the extreme rear shock. People find this bike to be too top heavy but I've had not issues with weight, its feels extremely well balanced to me.

    • @jesperkragh7701
      @jesperkragh7701 Před rokem +1

      I just ordered too the Rally Raid open cartridge for the front. Looking forward to installing it. I already like you have uprated the rear spring and experience already a massive improvement. I also think that getting the extreme rear maybe something coming naturally afterwards when i have forgotten the big expenditure :)

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  Před rokem +1

      I’m really happy with the RR shock, it is infinetely more adjustable than the stock shock with high and low speed adjustment. Each click is like ten on the stock. I love it so far. If either of you decide to buy it, I really hope you will be happy with the decision. It’s a lot of money, but the T7 is a bike I’m going to keep for a long time, so the investment is worth it for me.

    • @socaladventure2340
      @socaladventure2340 Před rokem +1

      @@jesperkragh7701 It was a huge improvement if you want to wait for a new rear shock. I changed the rear spring first before the front suspension and you could feel difference right away.

    • @socaladventure2340
      @socaladventure2340 Před rokem

      @@JohannesDalen I think the suspension upgrade is totally worth it on the T7 and the extreme rear is next upgrade on my bike. You have to put money into the suspension for almost any bike you get, it should be budgeted in. The T7 has a great chassis there so much you can do to it, it's a blank slate to make what you want and probably why it's quite a bit cheaper to other bikes in the same class. I'll be keeping mine for a while too, I think it's an amazing motorcycle. I really appreciate the lack of electronic nannies, just getting on a dirt trail and not having to stop to change modes is a huge win. I'm planning to do the California BDR in the next month or so.

  • @gbner9991
    @gbner9991 Před rokem

    Nice upgrades. I'm really lightweight (65kg) so the stock suspension feels ok to me. But when I see a heavier person sit on it the bike really collapses and you can see how wobbly it becomes even at a standstill. So I can understand why you and many others are upgrading.

    • @briangc1972
      @briangc1972 Před rokem

      You are confusing spring rates with suspension tuning. The fact that the suspension supports you and then sags excessively under a heavier person is simply a result of the factory spring rate being fairly low. You would still benefit from the same upgrades to the internals as he has. Those cartridge upgrades are a benefit to everyone regardless of their weight and regardless of their riding experience and style. The only difference is that he also needed heavier rate springs and you can keep your OEM springs.

  • @martyn_g
    @martyn_g Před rokem +3

    I thought hard about the Tenere. What put me off vs the 890R - High centre of gravity, stock fuel range (so once you’ve added the larger tank to equal the 890 range it’s slightly heavier wet, and have made it even more top heavy) stock suspension isn’t in the same league as the 890R, you have to buy a high exhaust kit because the stock bracket is weak. Once you’ve spent the coin, you may as well have bought an 890R, and it’s debatable whether the uprated suspension is as good as the WP Explor, and you have a very top heavy bike. AND to top it off, the 890 engine has more power and torque. Of course the Yamaha is more reliable, but I’d rather roll the dice on a potential breakdown and have a bike that handles better and has more snot😉

    • @timsalabimbombassa
      @timsalabimbombassa Před rokem +3

      At least if you order suspension custom made, it will be set right for you. Do that on the 890 and you’re also set back considerable cash. And quality will be very similar surely. And the top heaviness is not a problem for me anymore since I improved my riding and gained confidence. The balance of the bike is very good. Also: if you’re tall the T7’s ergonomics work much better. And in off road situations the power difference is theory really… My point: spend similar money and the T7 is similar performance.

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  Před rokem +4

      I think you make perfect sense here Martyn. The 890 avd r is the better bike, but also more expensive. At the time I bought this T7 I didn’t have 890r money, and I knew I wanted a second more dirt oriented bike, so I went with the ‘cheapest’ adv bike.
      All these upgrades are sponsored (besides the suspension), so I’m aware I could have an 890r here instead 😅

    • @MyHandleHereAtYouTube
      @MyHandleHereAtYouTube Před rokem +1

      The lack of support from KTM dealers + factory regarding parts (especially after 7 years) is a serious reason to avoid KTM. KTM handles customers like a small town factory (that comes with the similar quality of support) while Yamaha respects its clientel - you get a product from a high tech multinational. Think about the support 9x0 line receives and you can understand what support you will receive in 5 years from KTM that will have probably marketed 3 new adventure models.

    • @martyn_g
      @martyn_g Před rokem +1

      @@timsalabimbombassa I actually think for me, I won’t need any modifications on the stock Xplor. You should see initial reports on the 2023 model, and there’s no complaints, and many are saying that it’s a huge improvement over the 2022. I’m 80kg, and carry as little as possible. In regards to top heaviness- sure, you’ve become a better rider, but you can’t beat physics. Low centralisation of mass will always handle better.

    Did you ask for off-road setting or on-road setting when you ordered? Because I wonder what the difference actually is. I chose off road since that’s where control is most challenging. On road it feels more controlled, but kind of softish damping for riding hard

      I told them my riding style, weight and bike mods. Based on what I said I bet they made it as 50/50 as possible.
      I think any adventure bike will feel kind of softish when pushed hard on the road, it has 20cm suspension travel, and as far as I understand that will always feel somewhat ‘soft’ or wallowy.

  • @keithhill9589
    @keithhill9589 Před rokem

    Has this upgrade made the road riding feel harsher? Im considering this exact upgrade but I've heard that the feel on the road can become stuff - that feedback came from the K-tech ORVS valves plus correct spring stiffness. I'm wondering if this 35mm piston in the fork helps to keep the damping feel plush.

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  Před rokem

      It’s definitely firmer, but not stiff or harsh. I’ve read some complaints about this being less comfortable on the road than stock suspension, which isn’t really surprising. I like this firmness better than stock suspension with correct springs, it feels more alive and responsive.
