  • DIY Magic Mystery Braid Bracelet Tutorial
    Learn to make a leather bracelet using the 3-part inside trick braid (also known as the 'magic braid' or 'mystery braid).
    I share a formula to help you figure out how to size your bracelet (which seems like a bit of a mystery in itself), and go through all of the steps in detail including cutting the leather, braiding the leather, and attaching a snap clasp to finish your new awesome bracelet!

    In this video, I use nice soft supple leather that I salvaged from an old handbag. You can see that video here:
    ➤ • How to Salvage Leather...
    TOOLS & SUPPLIES:
    *************************
    soft flexible leather (see below for sizing formula)
    sharp craft knife & cutting surface
    fine tipped marker
    ruler (preferably metal)
    masking tape
    decorative snaps: amzn.to/1tmHlMd*
    snap setting tool: amzn.to/Ujccx3*
    sharp fabric scissors
    MAGIC BRAID BRACELET FORMULA:
    *********************************************
    (Fit size + 1 inch) x 1.3 = starting length for your leather strip (1.5 inches wide)
    Divide into 3 equal parts, .5 inches wide each. Leave 1.25 inches at each end uncut.
    METRIC
    (Fit size + 2.5 cm) x 1.3 = starting length (39 mm wide)
    Divide into 3 equal parts, 13mm wide each. Leave 32mm at each end uncut.

    I wondered know how to make these ever since we sold them at a gift shop I worked at. Thanks for the great instructions! I've got some faux leather fabric I picked up at a thrift store quite a while back. It has a fabric backing attached to it, so it'll be thick enough I'm sure. I'm going to try making one out of it! Thanks again for the awesome video!

    Thanks!! Hopefully it's at least 1 m thick. If not, I was thinking I could cut twice the width I want and fold over and glue so seam is on the bottom ( middle of the underside) of bracelet.

    • @JewelryTutorialHQ
      @JewelryTutorialHQ  Před 9 lety

      oldladytoofast Yes! That could definitely work too. I'd love to hear how it goes :)

  • @jcrefasi1
    @jcrefasi1 Před 9 lety

    Love the idea of reclaiming leather! I have an old leather jacket that my cat accidentally scratched when he jumped on my shoulder. It is very soft lamb skin. Would this be sturdy enough for making bracelets?

    • @JewelryTutorialHQ
      @JewelryTutorialHQ  Před 9 lety

      oldladytoofast I would think so, as long as it's at least 1mm thick without the lining. If not and you still want to use it, you could attach a fabric backing to the strip (using fabric glue) before cutting and braiding it.
