Good job on the review. Own one six months now. Driving it every day on country (Greek island) and dirt roads. Perfect daily bike for me. Comfy ride and fast enough if you stay between 5T and 8T rpm. Braking is very good. Suspension is excellent for road and some dirt. Maybe the rear one needs some adjustment for off road, but that's doable and easy. Looks and sounds amazing for my tastes. It's a keeper! Zero issues until now (9000km).
Ps: Try not to wear a ring while tapping the tank so often...;-)

Great review pretty spot on. Totally agree about tyres. I have Tourance on my BMW 650 and they are pretty poor on anything slightly damn off road. But put some decent off road tyres on it and its different bike. To me the Desert Sledge reminds me of the old XT 500 for all the good reasons.

Don't listen to the hate man, great attempt if its your first? Like the mix of static, POV and tracking shots. Also gotta say I'd love to have one of these in my garage. Currently running the baby GS and it too is fun but this would be funner!!

Thanks! Haters gonna hate, won't stop me. It's great bike, I really enjoyed it. Never tried the baby GS (310?), looks good though. The new A2 bracket is a super interesting space at the moment.

The 2015 and 2016 scramblers had another gas grip, with a much more agressive curve at the beginning.
We have a 2015 Full Throttle Scrambler and a 2018 Desert Sled, so I do know that subject very good.
There you had your torque to go on wheelies, but it was disliked, because of its awkward behaviour especially when you had to turn the throttle a lot, like in city-stop-and-go-traffic for example.
Just a veeery little turn on the gas, and the bike went off, nervy at stop-and-go, because you had to use the clutch all the time, and sometimes dangerous if you had to make a near turn at crossroads and so on.
From 2017 on, Ducati used another gas grip, which a very progressive curve, flat at the beginning and rising up to the end.
The Desert Sled came out 2017, so all of them have that progressive grip.
And to be honest, because it was a pita with our Full Throttle, we have changed the gas grip to a progressive one, which feels like you are driving another bike, pretty smooth in the lower rpms.
BUT, you can make wheelies with the Desert Sled in 1st gear, when you use the clutch (let it snap a bit).
Therefore, alway keep your foot on the rear brake :o )
    Motorcycle or lifestyle product?
    Honestly I don´t care.
She´s a beauty and it is a joy to ride it, I love mine.

Unfortunately I can’t agree with you on quite a lot. Specifically the tyres. I had the same on my Tenere 700 and took it on track. Happily fighting with much more capable bikes and took it right to the limit of the rear. Didn’t feel any sort of dead spot. Also, the Tenere is the same weight but has been hailed as light in the adventure category so why is this classed as heavy.

I was also pretty disappointed by the throttle response... Way too gentle for the numbers it produces! Is there anything you can do about it? Other than that, it's a great bike :)

If the exact same bike had Yamaha or Honda written on it, the so -called expert would bow down and praise lord for having the opportunity to have this bike. 😅 Ducati's problem is that they aren't a big spender when it comes down to lubing it for the tubers and so called journalists 😅

Great review. I have seen the Desert Sled in the flesh at a bike show and a regular Scrambler on the street. Unfortunately, these bikes do not have a lot of road presence. Also, they look a little too good. I want more of a raw experience from a bike. These are somewhat sanitised for, dare I say it, the hipster crowd. Still, they are pretty things, but give me something with a bit more bite. More please. Subscribed.

There're a few companies that reflash the ECU to "unsanitise" them. Couple that wih an open exhaust and it'd be stunning. Thanks for the sub, more content on the way!

There is no practical reason to own one - T7 wins in every category including price... BUT I WANT ONE!

Excellent review: clear concise and honest. I've got a DS, which only arrived a week ago. Yet to test it out on Colombia's dirt tracks, but first I need bar risers and wider off-road pegs. Can anybody recommend the best place to find these items?

Get the official remap as it turns it into the bike it should be straight out of the factory.

The under powered bike that he can't wheelie won the Mont 400 by a record 45 minute gap to second place.
Plenty of other guys out there riding wheelies on these and posting that on CZcams.
The engine is quick revving, my 2023 races like a scalded cat from 20 to 90 mph.

Live the hair. It kinda puts me off that hipsters have adopted scramblers

    • @TheWindigomonster
      @TheWindigomonster Před 5 lety +2

Hipsters are going to adopt everything eventually anyway. Probably better to chose a bike simply based on personal enjoyment rather than the culture associated with it.

I really wanted to like this bike, but it's dog compared to the KTM 690 Enduro or Husky 701 which feel like rockets in comparison and are twice a capable off-road. So much muffled torque, what a waste.

    • @bikesbydaniel8953
      @bikesbydaniel8953  Před 5 lety +3

I've owned and loved a KTM 690 so I know what you mean, but what you're missing is that they are completely different bikes aimed at different riders. The Scrambler is supposed to be an approachable bike for new riders to get them into the brand. The KTM is most definitely not a beginners bike.

First of all, thanks for your comment. I've been researching bikes for awhile to find a replacement for my 250cc dual sport. (I like both on and off road riding.)
After 2 years of riding, I've found that I don't go off road nearly enough to justify a bike that's engineered for 'mostly off road' use.
The KTM and the Husky are great bikes if 'mostly off road use' is your thing. That's not my thing I guess.
It's all a matter of preference. I'm in love with the Ducati Desert Sled street styling and it's capacity for light off road use.
I think it's my next bike.

Too heavy. Must be sluggish compared to the standard Scramblers.

    Pretty clueless review.
These bikes are capable of serious off-road performance.
    Just watch the videos.
There are people adventure touring them in all kinds of terrain.

      Pretty clueless comment.
      Actual quotes from the video:
“This was definitely the best off-road”
      “It’s a really really fun off-road bike”
“Despite some compromises...it has completely won me over both off and on road”
