She’s gonna love the Tool journey!!!
I like this channel. She is truthful and not just saying what we want to hear.👍
They have the whole crowd hypnotized 🤩.
This is about the lead singer Maynard James Keenan.
- The music is about a friend of the band who couldn't do anything without being high.
- He used to do this dance alot, like he was rubber. He stopped doing it though.
- He is extremely smart and writes most of the lyrics.
Thank you. :D
Thanks for the background info! :)
I also am interested to know more about the Russian literature she referenced as well! I'm familiar with the concept of the Jungian philosophy of the shadow and its archetype in some western literature and art. Obviously in regard to Tool 46&2 specifically calls back this concept. At any rate Tool is a treasure trove for discussion so I definitely look forward to seeing your reactions and dialogue!
First 3 minutes into showing your gf Tool and she says "It's interesting"
She's a keeper
Awesome!!! Here for the Tool rabbit hole. 46 and 2 would be good. She talked about the shadow so seems logical. IMO, Tool doesn't have a bad song so you should be fine regardless of what's next
Nice!
One tip for possible future reactions: please avoid the music videos for Tool songs on first listens. The videos will distract you from hearing the music. Fact.
46&2 is a solid pick for the next one.
Also, there’s lots of fan made videos around, best to avoid those too.
Best bet is usually to go with the official, audio only videos and have lyrics pulled up on another screen. They will come in handy on most songs.
Cheers’
Yeah I hate when people react to the 46&2 video with all the explanations through the drum solo lol soooo annoying
Bradley Abraham
Besides this one, Tool don’t really have good quality live clips available online.. or well, then there is also the ”Pneuma” Drum cam with Danny Carey released this year (from drum stick manufacturer Vic Firth), that has good quality audio. But it is concentrating on the drumming, obviously.
All other live clips are basically cell phone camera clips, and have really bad quality.
Tool released a live album, ”Salival”, but it is audio only, I think? It’s not on streaming platforms tho.
Besides, in my opinion it’s best to start with studio versions anyway. Tool albums from ”Ænima” (1996) forward have incredible production, and some of the live versions are different from the album versions, so it’s wise to hear the album versions first anyway. The Sober one you did is kind of an exception.. As I think it is actually better than the studio version. The first album had the band still kinda searching for their sound, and imo Ænima (with ”new” bass player Justin Chancellor) was the first Tool album to really sound like Tool. 46&2 from that album would be a logical step forward from here.
Having said that, the live audio version of ”Pushit” is incredible, altho it really is recommended to hear the studio version first.
And with Tool reactions, the music itself has so much going on (again, from ”Ænima” forward) that imo it is best to react to the music only, with no visuals. Other than maybe lyrics pulled up on another screen. I’d also avoid the lyric videos, as some of them are just wrong and some have additional bs thrown in to them, that - again - only distracts you from the music.
Having seen hundreds of these reaction vids, i genuinely believe that the best Tool reactions come from having audio only, and lyrics pulled up. Once you’ve heard the song it’s cool to revisit it and then check the video or something.. or the live version. But preferably only the Salival audio versions, no cell phone videos.
Just my 2 cents.
@@BradAlenaMetalReactions Pushit from the Salival live album - it's audio only but awesome
@@BradAlenaMetalReactions Danny Carrey "Pneuma" Drum Cam. I'd listen to the studio version first though....
WRONG. This is the best one for VOCAL coaches to react to. One of his best performances live ever
Great reaction! I must say that the girl is not only a beautiful woman, but she has one of the most intelligent, interesting and articulate takes on this song! Good job!
There is a version of the song "Jambi" that someone compiled footage from different people at one live show and actually did a pretty good job of editing it together. Might be worth a look if you want something of a more live feel than a plain music video.
Such intuitive comments. Thank you.🙏😌
This is a journey for me too :) Like Brad, the music comes to me first, and not always I get the lyrics at all. Very interesting.
I have not listen much to Tool, but this performance I have seen many times, because its awesome.
Good read on the lyrics I enjoyed your analysis, the TooL is working! Got you thinking
I love her interpretation
This song is just awesome, it's even better live! what a performance!
I'm excited for your journey through Tool! Great reaction of the music and the lyrics!
Danny Carey drum cam Pneuma next. 93 they were in their 30s now most in their 50 pushing 60 have to check it . It’s a must I don’t care what music you prefer
Goes christ. Lol
Gees chris. Stupid spell check.
The reason why he's so contorted in his posture in this live performance is because he has very very extreme anxiety when you delve deeper into the tool rabbit hole especially with their live you'll notice that Maynard stays in the back shrouded in because of his anxiety it adds that whole creepy disturbing vibe to it and that's what I love about tool especially the complicated time signatures and just the whole band in general Maynard James also has a wine vineyard and produce has his own signature brand of wine I've always wanted to try their winethere is a song that I'd like to suggest it's not by tool but by a perfect circle and that song is Judas I think that song would really interest you and there's a lot of emotion in that song
BS it's due to his anxiety what a load of shite.
Just subbed nice reaction y'all!!! Will be watching more of your video's.
Thank you! If you're into Tool, I suggest checking out our Tool playlist. Then you can see them all in the order we did them :)
@@BradAlenaMetalReactions ohhh yes i will definitely check them out!!!! Keep up the good content hope you get more appreciation for your channel being really good.
Thank you! Really appreciate the support :)
You can actually see the moment the performance clicked with her.
I totally agree with both points that you two are making. I've also always felt it was almost a reference to The Beatles, "Let it Be". "And in my hour of darkness, she is standing right in front of me. Speaking words of wisdom, let it be." Referring to Mother Mary, who was mentioned earlier in the Beatles song. Then Maynard sings "Mother Mary won't you whisper?" Asking for even the faintest whisper of guidance. I'm probably totally off on that, but that's how I tied it in.
Thanks for the comment and sharing your thoughts on it too :)
"Shadow controlling the person..." Sounds like a great segue into "46 & 2."
If you do react to "46 & 2" and she enjoys it I'd recommend following up with "Kids cover 46 & 2" by O'keefe Music Foundation. I know kids and Tool doesn't sound like a good pairing but it was impressive.
@@BradAlenaMetalReactions You've said you're not a lyric guy but if you know the lyrics to "46 & 2" she dovetailed it beautifully. Thanks for your consideration!
Great content. Keep up the good work!
Really like the thoughtful reaction. Subscribed for sure.
Definitely do 46&2 next but I have a feeling she’ll enjoy Lateralus and forward. They have become more of a spiritual music for me and I don’t know how I’d do without. When she is ready, and only when she is ready, I request Lipan Cojuring, Lost Keys, Rosetta Stoned in one video please. Subscribed for more TOOL! 👁🤘👽
Great video! Love how in-depth you guys got in your analysis. Not many reactors give what they are hearing and seeing that much thought.
My suggestion for the TOOL journey: go in (somewhat) chronological order. For a new listener it could be a bit jarring to hear something from '10,000 Days' right after this, then go back to something from 'Opiate', then 'Fear Innoculum' and so on. Lots of good choices from the 'Undertow' and 'AEnima' period to check out as Alena is being introduced to TOOL. After at least a few songs from those albums, then move into 'Lateralus' for a bit, then '10k', and finally the new album. I've seen a few reactors go in reverse order, and find themselves completely underwhelmed by early-TOOL after hearing the newer stuff first.
As others have said, it's best to avoid lyric videos, fan-made videos, live videos (other than this and the "Pneuma" Drum-Cam), and instead just listen to the official audio of the songs. Probably best to avoid TOOL's music videos as well, at least until after Alena has had a chance to hear the songs first.
🤘
@@BradAlenaMetalReactions I've gone back to some of your earlier videos, and you two have been great right from the start!
You're doing reactions the right way (in my opinion). No exaggeration or hype, just two thoughtful people giving art the consideration it deserves.
I'm Glad I found you guys!
I love her view of these lyrics.....keep her going down that rabbit hole brother....maybe get her something off the Lateralus album "Parabol/Parabola" its 2 songs that should be played together .....try "Fear Inoculum" or "Pneuma" off of the new album
I was just going to say the samething.
I totally agree with Munk. Stick with the music only, maybe some lyrics. Tool music requires immersion to fully appreciate it's depth. I think your lady has what it takes to be a Tool fan. It's not for dummies.
This live version is more about the performance and not the sound. Definitely worth a react.
🔥👽THE TOOL ARMY IS COMING👽🔥
Already here :)
Been here for year's🙂
Another must watch live performance is Jerk Off, and the best version is from 10.10.1999.
46 & 2 is the next step in my opinion.
Great video, I hope both of you are doing well !
Greetings fom France.
Well you've gone and done it. Lots of Tool reactions in your future soon. May I suggest Eulogy, Aenema, and The Pot. :)
Loving your reactions guys!!!
Right on.
And that’s when it happens at 5:43, Meynard claims another unsuspecting innocent. She was looking back and forth at a lyric page, but at that point she could no longer look away and was mesmerized. Welcome to the tool rabbit hole! After her comments on the shadow’s role, I am skipping right to your 46&2 reaction! Well done.
Holy shit. How much time did she have to work on this? Because she completely nailed it. With 9 inch nails. Buh dum tsshh
Adam jones!! With that dinosaur sounding bend !
Keep it up I'm liking the honest breakdowns. Don't feel like you have to have all the answers on one listen, just be honest. Some of us have been listening to this for decades and still don't have all the answers. :)
Thanks again for the support! :)
Girlie got it. But home boy nailed it too. My interpretation was closer to his but hers is a new perspective on the song. Love it. Can't wait to see her progression. I would recommend something from the same album. Prison sex
Of course the other live Tool video to watch is the recent drum cam video of Pneuma...
gotta checkout My OWN Summer -by DEFTONES
She’s scared to tell him she needs to excuse herself for some alone time
Awesome breakdown....
46&2
owwwww !!!!
Please react to "Right in two", I love it 🔥
Note; why can't we *not* be sober?
It's not me I swear... It's not me.. .it's the alcohol talking... lots of interpretation, a real rabbit hole here.
Subbed for more Tool.....
🤘😎
How much in American dollars to join your Patreon? By the way, very astute observations!
Thanks Will! Glad you liked it! There's different Tiers you can select, at different prices and with different benefits. The lowest is 1 Euro which equates to roughly $1.20. If you want to add your own personal song request to the queue then Tier 2 is 15 Euros which is around $18.
Note that this is excluding VAT, which may or may not be applicable depending on where you live.

@@BradAlenaMetalReactions Cool...indistinguishable.
Haha yeah pretty much :D
Trust me and react to Tina S "Ludwig van Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata",she will blow your mind with her guitar.
at least you should later take a look at danny careys drum cam playing "Pneuma" from the new album. Great audio quality also for the other instruments. There are some good live videos around, but they are sometimes hard to find. I know at least on of "Stinkfist" from Berlin last year... czcams.com/video/IdhQGws-Z9s/video.html and there is one from "The Pot" and "Jambi" also called "the non existent DVD" or something. I post them later.
"The Pot" czcams.com/video/SEnauBVUNzs/video.html "Jambi" czcams.com/video/PuM34db3Jn4/video.html make shure to take a look first at the album versions.
You should do a reaction to the music video GuessWhat? Chicken Butt by Jackson Animation.
Is what real?
@@BradAlenaMetalReactions Yes, my suggestion is very real. Jackson Animation does a lot of hilarious animated music videos. You should do a reaction to them.
she is not crying, she didnt get it. lol
Jesus what is her IQ? She seems scary smart.
Haha yeah... living with her, I can confirm this is true! :D
As for live videos, there aren't many great ones (only because the production quality is never very good), but defenitley consider Jambi live (czcams.com/video/PuM34db3Jn4/video.html) and Pneuma is a must! czcams.com/video/FssULNGSZIA/video.html Also, hopefully you'll do the studio version of Vicarious.
🤘🤘😁
Blameshifting.....it came from here folks....lol
If you’re introducing her to industrial, try “ Ministry “. The band.
Sober is so heroin there's no denying it.
why is maynard spazzing out on stage?
He is showing the true pain and suffering from drug addiction and withdraws.
Is she Russian? "Alena" is one of traditional names in Russia.
Is Tori Amos feat. Tool' singer accepted?
Otherwise "Schism" because it's a short one. Most of their songs are 10+ minutes with 3 guitar riffs so it's a little bit boring but Tool is great...sometimes. The singer and the drummer are above average.
I don't think I know any south-african bands but I know at least 3 russian ones: Arkona, Imperial age, Руян. If you have some suggestions or reactions, let us know.
@@BradAlenaMetalReactions May be for your "independance day". I don't know the word. English speakers called the french one "bastille day" but it's incorrect. Yours is april, 27th. Too late-ralus ;)
The main problem with Tool is their laziness: 5 albums in 30 years and the last one is from last year so the next one...
Meshuggah is very productive compared to them.
@@BradAlenaMetalReactions I'm safe because if Tool fans don't think they are lazy, that means the fans are lazy too :)
Even if these explanations are plausible, 13 years to make an album with the 4 same guys. It's not like someone died and it was difficult to find a replacement.
I only know "a perfect circle" as side project. Seen it live 20 years ago, never listen since so the quest of perfection wasn't there for me.
Tuomas from Nightwish is a very hard worker in comparison.
@@BradAlenaMetalReactions Legal issues with labels delayed their albums, not laziness. It's also why Maynard started A Perfect Circle and Puscifer during that time.
@@oneoverprime1608 Okay, bad luck. So it's not mostly laziness but I've just red that his band "a perfect circle" made more problems with the label and Maynard created a vineyard. That's not really "sober" style and no link with music whatsoever.
The problem was for releasing new materials but they could still make new music in private (even playing it live idk?).
Since march 2015, these problems are settled so it took 4 more years until the album was ready.
Puscifer seems better than a perfect circle.
I'm still waiting for the 2nd Fredrik Thordendal's special defects album, 22 years after the 1st one. It's not only laziness either. He has created his own monstrous studio, he's a perfectionist and he placed the bar so high with the 1st one... It should be out of this world again, maybe out of this universe, a new big bang :)
It was worth the wait though... Fear Innoculum is their best album by far, Pneuma and Descending are next-level.
It won’t be his tool!
TOOL disturbing?
Bla!bla!bla! So uninteresting.
