20 years ago today we lost Layne….and today is the first time I hear this. Gave me chills. It’s so effortless for him definitely one of the best ever to do it and one of my ALLTIME favs….miss ya Layne
Let me join the parade of people who just love this man’s singing. Almost like I think a guitar player, what a tone. His vibrato and even his rasps manage to be intensely musical. R.I.P.
I love these recordings!! You can hear him cough, clear his throat, etc...the kind of things you probably don’t get to hear in newer recordings. Layne Staley was a vocal force on a level all his own. I remember buying Dirt and listening to it over and over in college. RIP Layne, you’re singing with the Angles until we meet again.
*ONE TAKE.* LOTS of echo and reverb, but just WOW! He just gave everything had with every song he sung, whether it's in the studio or live (sometimes live was better).
It really was. Not sure how some achieve that - I think it's just a natural occurrence (a natural blessing!) in their vocal chords. It's almost a...'metallic'....element or something. Robert Plant has that same "something" that makes his vocals extremely unique as well. Led Zep is another huge favorite of mine as well.
Con cada canción,Layne fue sacando trozos de su alma hasta ese fatidico dia en que nos dejó.Espero hayas encontrado la paz.Nos marcaste a toda una generación del Grunge y post grunge hasta el presente.Q.E.P.D. Layne.
It goes to show how much vocal effect you can get away with in a dense mix. This is undoubtedly the final vocal stem…most of this delay/reverb gets lost and the remainder exists as perceived “depth” to the listener. Engineers…this is why you don’t make your final decisions while listening in solo 👍
REM to the one i love and, AIC we die young are the first 2 music videos I remember seeing as a child. And at that moment music has hit me different ever since.
It wouldn’t have been a bad idea Jerry would have continued on under a different band name after Layne and cemented AIC’s legacy with Layne. They are legendary either way. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Jerry asked Layne’s mother for her blessing to use Alice In Chains still. Jerry is as much if not more important to the band than Layne. and Layne’s my favorite vocalist.
@@ryanshultzmusic117 I think both Jerry and Layne have the same importance, Jerry is the mastermind behind the songs and Layne is the god voice that made AIC famous
Where my audio engineers at? I'm hearing at least 2 long-throw delays triggering a reverb, ambient split delay, combined with selective overdubs...sometimes all 5 going at once.
Even my goosebumps have goosebumps listening to this.
I'll say it again, this is amazing!
Agreed!
BRUUUUH
Man what a voice. Saddens me to no end his life cut so short
Actually it’s kind of impressive that he could make it so long with that lifestyle.
Even his cough is awesome. What a voice.
LOL true

1:49 Wow his voice is amazing 💗
His voice was a force of nature indeed!!
1:27 I believe he was humming to the guitar riff in this part. 😄
Yep.
How could you not?
It’s Jerry getting down!!!

That distortion is insane 0:39
@@MidwestFarmToys uh. yeah. shut it kid. like you could produce such distortion 😐
E a gnt vai jogar que jogo?
That isnt an insane amount of distortion, but its insane how well he controlled it.
@@DaisyHead666 what would be an insane amount of distortion?
@@vinii_ Listen to Acid Baths screaming vocals.
The most eerie but beautiful voice in rock and roll
engineer also used a guitar chorus pedal on the vocals which was pretty cool effect layne was the man!

No way it was one take. There’s a video of him fucking up the lyrics while Jerry is holding up a piece of paper with the words on it.
@@Alexander87oclock The producer of Dirt said that Layne would nail his vocals in one take. He was just THAT talented 🤷🏻♀️
@@Alexander87oclockvery true. Layne sang but cut off right before the 'and we die young' chorus part.
That little cough in the first chorus though
Layne's vocals are awesome👍🏽 Wish he was still around!
Me too🥰🙏🏼❣
Wow, i have said it before & I'll say it again
That voice is other worldly

Love Layne's voice.
it is impossible to not love layne enough.
Poorly worded.
Is the Queen’s not your first language?
Hey Nobody, I really love Layne Staley isolated voice!! Thank you for sharing ❤️🤘🎧
You can hear him bending his voice even more with Godsmack.

The way he comes into this guns blazing is just so good. His voice was amazing.
Brutally Powerful \m/
You are always remembered Layne ❤✌
My favorite Layne vocals, I think. Even better than Love, Hate, Love
Thanks for this dude, much appreciated \m/

I wonder who coughed at 0:48?
Layne
it even sounds like a layne cough, idk why but it does, kind of obvious lol
That had me going back to my CD player and seeing if I could hear all the random sounds Layne was making on the album! LOL
probably your mother
@@alltheserobotsshallfall you meant to offend him but if his mom was there that would have been cool af
Scary!!!
Well I guess he wrote his own fate
He didn't write this, and it's about young gang members and kids killing each other over things like sneakers. Jerry wrote it when he witnessed it.
Kinda feel like m. Shadows from avenged sevenfold tried to sound like him
0:48 ele tosse é?

That’s not Lane Staley
Yeah it is lmao
@@JFrohlichMusic lol right
Who is it, then?
Correct. It's actually Layne Staley.
Fantastic
God dammit I love all the coughing n throat clearing...why don't musicians leave these things in anymore? Fuck.
you can't really hear those details in the full mix
