dude this stuff is gold, im blowing away my CSF 202 course cause of you. thanks
Professor Messer!!!
Your videos blow my mind! Straight to the point, not fat!! Awesome!!!
Thank you for this great course!
I like your videos as opposed to a lecture in class. In lectures, the instructor likes to go on tangents and gives redundant info that is useless. in the time i went through talking about cables in class it took about a day or 2. in your videos i got through it in like an hour or so
FYI toning out cable with foil shielding is a nightmare.
Are you sure Cat 5 cable is capable of 1Gbps? The CompTIA book says it's data rate is 100Mbps.
I would recommend you read through the IEEE 802.3 1000BASE-T standard if you have questions about supported cabling for 1000BASE-T.
Are you questioning the professor? Haha jk
@@professormesser 😍
Cat5e gets up 1Gbps
@@m_kago Cat5 also theoretically can reach 1Gbps like the enhanced version
I think it's important to note that when talking about Cat UTP cables. Cat 5 is a 100BASE-TX Ethernet standard. Which would be 100 Mbps up to 100 m.
This works the other way around. The Ethernet standard specifies the minimum cable type used.
For example, the minimum cable type for 1000BASE-T (Gigabit Ethernet) is a Category 5 cable and will operate up to 100 meters.
@@professormesser now I'm confused. Wouldn't the minimum cable type for 1000 be a Cat 5e?
Sorry, still new.
@@gainsum The minimum cable type for 1000BASE-T is Category 5, not category 5e.
To resolve any confusion for future readers, Cat 5 supports gigabit ethernet at a shorter range than Cat 5e+
@@kyru527 The 802.3 section regarding the Gigabit Ethernet standard (1000BASE-T) supports category 5 cable to a distance of 100 meters, the same as any higher category cable.
Thamks to you professor i passed core 1 with a whopping 705 score! lol
S = braided shielding? how come they didnt use B for this instead?
@@nousquest actually "BS" might be a good way to remember that it uses S 😂
Because Comptia makes extra money from vouchers from people failing because they don't use common sense abbreviations😂
To make things unnecessarily complicated.
S for shielding?
