      @Raleigh Sexton It depends on what value you place on your time. I personally would never do this because it's not worth my time to mess around for an hour or two like this. I would just go buy a set of slides for $20-$30.

    Random suggestion is random:
    Since in a previous video, you outlined the problems you have with the orginal wood pantarouter you built, and as you are building a replacement, why not set up a raffle, after you completed the modified one, so you can hand-off the orginal one, plus a copy of the modified plans, to a lucky subscriber. That way a) you get to have more workshop space, especially if it is occupied by a machine you may no longer use as much, and b) gives a chance for one of us subscribers to get a 'Matthias Original (TM)' they can alter with the new plans ... a win/win, if I do say so myself ...

    Matthias! I'm surprised you didn't make slides out of wood!! You might consider getting a dry film lubricant rather than using grease or oil. Won't attract sawdust nearly as much. I think they are usually teflon or graphite based. Search Amazon for "dry film lubricant". Seems like a perfect place to use one. Cheers.

    Maybe some cheap door threshold brush would work well to fully block the edges and back of dust intrusion.

    Nice video! Allt this precision work makes me realise I should never build one of thees. I am more of a mm guy myself. My thoughts immediately went to buying the metal one instead. Perhaps you should have a link to where ppl can buy the metal pantorouter, if u still get a comission.

      Woodgears.ca has links to the Hybrid Pantorouter site but you can go here: hybridpantorouter.jp

      Berra Lilltroll he has a deal set up with a company called kuldeep (sp?) He has covered them before and I believe in his prevoous video announcing this new pantorouter series of videos he did mention the website where you can purchase the metal one.

    Is it possible to put in a slight dado for each glide to close up the gap more rather than add more trim around the edges to keep dust out?

      maybe, maybe not. either way, sounds like a lot more work than simply adding a few wood strips. it would probably weaken the platform too much anyway.

    Can you put two pantorouters in series to get a 4:1 reduction?

  • @MrGrebgnet

    You could add cloth or something to block out the dust on the side you didn't want to extend it!

    The plans say "Use keyboard drawer slides or center drawer slides" I can't seem to find center drawer slides locally, can I use normal (non-telescoping) side mount drawer slides? Can you explain the recommendation for center mount a little more please?

    Matthias, would you mind *temporarily* enabling auto-gen captions until human-generated captions are uploaded? I won’t tell anyone if it gets a word wrong, and it would be greatly appreciated.

    Instead of putting that rear dustcover on the board that would allow dust in, why didn't you attach it to the bottom board so that it could do the same job but without leaving an opening while fully extended?

  • @tiporari
    @tiporari Před 6 lety

    You could add a piece of felt, squeegee, brush (like door sweep) etc to your base plate so it keeps dust out when the top plate goes past the edge. Mount the sweep on the fixed part so the movable part doesn't drag dust and debris into the cavity.

      Or a piece of wood in between the sliders on front and back edge of the top or bottom plates.
