I just installed a Mansfield in my 1200 square foot log cabin, can’t keep it warm in here with burning ironwood or ash. Had no problems with my 150 year old potbelly 🥶☹️

If you get one of these, don't ever EVER remove the catalytic combustors. Just air blast them in place. You'll have to dig into the stove and clean once a year. These stoves are prefect examples of creating something that is impossible to do maintenance in. Other stoves simply have a hatch that opens and makes cleaning a breeze. These require stiff cotter pins, a headlamp, and time on your back on the floor peering up into the sooty crevasses of the top of your stove. They desperately need to hire a designer that also understands stove maintenance.

Damn, that sucks. I had my mind set on buying one. If I ordered it by next week, I might receive it till early spring or early fall of 2022. Spoke with them today. They have are behind on making them fast enough. Prices will be going up as well. That wasn't a surprise.

I have the same problem as Alexis below and I do believe it has to do with airflow. Question, how does the air get into the stove? Outside of the chimney, is there any other air in-take that I can clean? I have a Castleton and I've had the chimney cleaned and it burned great for about a week, then plugs up again with creosote. Thanks for any help.

    • @jerichachristian9062

      Hey there,
The control on the right side of the unit is your secondary air control (handle towards front is open, handle towards the back is closed) and there is also a primary air control under the ash lip in the front (below the glass) that would be Left - Closed and Right - Open. Both of these areas can get fly ash and other materials dirty them up so you can clean those areas if you'd feel so obliged. Also, there is a catalytic combustor that filters and and all air moving through the unit and exhausting out the chimney - those can get quite dirty and are known for needing replaced after a time. These can be tricky as they have a gasket around the outside that comes apart if removed for cleaning so that will need replaced if you so choose to remove for cleaning. I've seen other catalytic users work with an air compressor to blow it loose then vacuum the muck out.
      Hope this helps! : )

I ordered my Heritage stove in early March 2022. Still no stove as of October 2022. The local dealer is now offering the floor model to me. I’m fairly apprehensive in accepting that offer.

@@HomesteadOnThePreserve we did finally have one installed in early November. It did not disappoint. If I had to do it again though, I would order the largest stove. I believe it’s called the Mansfield. Side loading on the Heritage is fine, but I found I preferred loading from the front.

This is a recurring problem with stoves and the problem is usually not the stove! Stoves need air flow to stay lit. If you have negative pressure in your home, or you have an air tight home you will have this problem. Another possibility is your chimney. The chimney is the motor of your stove. If it is not clean or if it is not the right size for your stove, it will affect its performance. Check out your local stove shop. They can help you!
