This woman had brought in a piece of Colonial American furniture and the appraiser asked if this was the condition of the piece when they purchased it. The woman stated that her husband had refinished it a few years prior. The appraiser informed the woman, the piece, theoretically, could've been owned by one of the Founding Fathers, and was worth $17,000 USD, but had her husband not refinished it, it would have been worth $200,000 - $300,000 USD. Needless to say, she was quite disappointed with the husband.
The presenter just stayed painfully silent instead of continuing to explain, extol etc.. The owner was gobsmacked, so the awkwardness was certainly not his fault..

@@annschurman4888 I think it was found in the earth..on in his garden or somewhere remember it from ages ago} It is Old English if I remember correctly. Might have been Anglo Saxon? Very early gold stuff looks like polished brass, but without tarnish.
