    As a kid I got this show on VHS as a Christmas present from my father. Initially I was kind of disappointed, a relatively cheap VHS tape of some guy I had never heard of (yeah I was kinda spoiled at the time). But when I eventually sat down to watch it, it changed my life. I was like...what is this? How is this possible? Some years later he got me a more than decent acoustic guitar and the Eric Clapton Unplugged tabs-book with it. The Live at the El Mocambo VHS is still the best gift I ever got.

      yes! my dad put the VHS of this on for me when I was about 14. I still remember watching it thinking, "what the....fuck". I had seen virtuoso guitarists before but SRV did something special here. stripped down, no distortion effects etc and just a 3 piece. Such a great tone too. My dad made me love this shit for life

      I also got this (on DVD though) as a Christmas present from my dad. I too was disappointed, because I had been planning to buy the Montreaux album, but my dad's coworker told him to find this. Said he'd seen every concert video from SRV, and that this was the best. Still haven't seen/heard better.

    This video changed my life forever. I was into my 4th year learning guitar and i was into metal and metal only. Then 1 day a friend brought by this video. At first after looking at the box i told my friend "you know i hate country" cause of the name on the box and the hat that i was looking at. My friend said just watch 1 song then we can do something else. Well just a few seconds into the song till the end of the video of everyone screaming for more i was paralized at what i just saw. My friend needed a snow shovel to pick my jaw off the floor. From that point on metal was dropped and SRV and blues became my focus.

With Stevie Ray Vaughan, though, everytime I see him playing live, I just wish from the bottom of my heart that I could've seen him, just one single time and it would have been enough for the rest of my life. Ive been playing for 23 years now , and just About now i think i can play Some great tunes.
      SRV has always been a big influence for me and i started off with the shuffles and Some easy licks.
      On a great day after playing at least 3 hours i actually am capable of playing a riff like he did.
      Dont get me wrong , im not saying i am a great guitar player .and i play with 0.11.
      Nevertheless i was happy. I finally did it☺️
      Then i look at HIM playing , especially at el mocambo, and i realise what a one of a kind guitar player he was.
      Its just unbelieveble how he throws out lick after lick , bends the 0.13 all with such ease and soul , power and feeling.

    Just passing 30 years since his death, I wish there was more recognition to the gross amount of talent and passion he processed. Imagine what he, his brother Jimmie and Double Trouble would have contributed together if he never took the seat on the Helicopter. Maybe more amazing is the amount of respect and humility he always showed towards others along the way. Such a damn shame so many were robbed of the chance to witness this in person.

    Saw him live 3 times. The third time was at the Benson and Hedges Blues festival in Los Angeles with Irma Thomas, Dr.John, John Lee Hooker, Joe Cocker, and BB King, in 1990. The man NEVER disappointed. I took off work and cried like a baby all day when I heard of his death on the radio. LONG LIVE STEVIE!!

    • @duffman18
      @duffman18 Před 2 lety

      Lol you wouldn't get away with that nowadays, naming a music festival after a brand of cigarettes. When I smoked I was always a Benson and hedges guy myself. It makes sense SRV would play at something called that. He always had a cigarette with him on stage. As you can see in this video. He puts it between the strings on the headstock to keep it in place. It's a tone-cigarette. Like tone-wood, cigarettes add brilliant tone to the guitar, as long as they're good quality cigarettes. OK that was a bad joke but you know what I mean

    J'avais plein d'amis qui me disaient que le gars nommé Vomi Rillette était un des plus grands guitaristes du Lac St-Jean. Un jour ce vomi du Lac St-Jean s'est mis à vomir sur Stevie Ray Vaughan et il a perdu toute crédibilité à mes yeux surtout que ça coïncidait avec son ex-femme en Europe qui lui demandait de l'aider financièrement à subvenir aux besoins de ses enfants qu'il avait abandonnés en Europe... Voici le très grandiose SRV dans toute sa splendeur.

    The rhythm guitarist of an SRV tribute band (Pride & Joy) told me I HAD to get this tape. This was around 1992, south shore of Boston, and I forget his name (the lead guitarist was named Sam Gentile, great playa). He was absolutely right, the recording of this show is an historical document. RIP Stevie
