A global phenomenon that has wowed audiences for over 40 years, Jesus Christ Superstar is a timeless work set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally-known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot.
It was the first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage and first came to major theatres when it debuted on Broadway in October 1971 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre in New York.
Less than 12 months after the Broadway show opened, the rock spectacle went to London, exploding onto the West End at the Palace Theatre in August 1972 in a hugely successful production. By 1980, after 3,358 performances, Jesus Christ Superstar had become the longest running musical in West End history at the time and grossed $12.3 million.
In all, Jesus Christ Superstar has grossed over $205 million and has been professionally produced in 42 countries around the world! - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Can I officially say.... he played that role awesomely and you will never forget that he was in it! In my opinion he was the best in the role for Herod! How good was this... I first bought it on VHS, then on DVD and then digitally!
I miss Rick. He could be so wonderfully odious, grotesque and sleazy. He made a brilliantly sinister and threatening Herod.
He makes me laugh but also creeps me out! (:
may Mr Mayall rest in eternal paradise
Then he did his job. The real Herod Antipas was pretty much that.
I agree It’s too bad he died but, he wasn’t the threatening Herod. Josh Mostel was the Mean Herod.
LMAO

This is just awesome. He plays it with a mockingly sinister faux-fanboy that always has his skepticism just under the surface, then his temper comes out when he realizes Jesus isn't afraid of him. Such a nuanced performance. I like this heaps better than the '73 version.
Rick mayall was utterly fantastic I miss him so much
me too :(
I know him so well. He also played peeves the poltergeist in the Harry Potter books. But not in the movies
Bethany Granger THATS WHY HE SOUNDS FAMILIAR! I remember his voice from the Harry Potter video games!
He was cast in the movies, but they cut him out
Ah he’s so incredibly wonderful♥️miss the bugger♥️♥️
Yeah, he's scary the way a rich, entitled brat prince is scary the minute you tell him no. All that power can turn deadly in an instant. I love how Jesus just stares him down with that _you don't scare me, little boy_ look.
Who are you even talking about?
@@young321bookie Herodes?!☀️
The Shock Treatment (Rocky Horror spinoff)/JCS connection: in ST Rik Mayall played Rest Home Ricky while Barry Dennen (Pilate) was car dealer Irwin Lapsey
Rocky Horror/JCS connection: Richard O Brien was fired from the cast of JCS in the 70s, and by his own account went home, ate some magic mushrooms, and wrote Rocky Horror.
Guys I just realized this but he is lord flasheart from blackadder rest in peace
We have king Herod in the White House now
Very accurate. Well said.
RIP Rik. Thank you for the memories
It is a wonderful rendition . Really powerful and CHALLENGING !!!!!!
Damn, I miss Rik but watching this reminds me how much I adore his acting - first got to watch him in Blackadder
I miss you Rick.. So much. My favourite Herod.
This right here. This was the very first time I became aware of Rik Mayall (had seen Shock Treatment before, but that's the only thing he was in where it's possible not to notice him) and the way he talks in that short Interview got me hooked. You look at him and instantly go: "Wow, he sure is a character! ". Very intriguing in a bit of a creepy way here. After some research I found out he was just about the sweetest person ever.
Celebrity-wise, he's probably the biggest loss of the century.
Don't let him know the ce...word!😅
So you took the Rik- likes- shocking
- people- in- an- interview - way of being introduced to his magic. Mine was a different one, let's see if I can find it!❤️
