Hey :) I’m Christian Schaffer, and I’ve lived on the road full-time since May 2018. This journey began in 2013 when I left the corporate world to build my career as an outdoor adventure & travel photographer. After 14 months of SUV living - I bought the van I now call home. Van life enables me to experience and document the beauty of our natural world, while also having my home and office nearby. My hope is that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey, you might be inspired to hit the road or spend more time outdoors. Casinos offer inconsistency - if you win or lose everytime, then you would get bored and not keep playing. Similarily, whenever ChristianSchaffer puts out a video it seems like you gotta watch cause you don't know how long it might be before you get another one to fill your soul.

@@ChristianSchaffer it feels like I’m in the van with you for 20-30 minutes and we’re just gabbing like two best friends without actually being in the van with you. Which would be extra epic but you get what I’m saying. Also right on par with Maati Hapooja and Peter McKinnon level cinema IMO.

I was a 15 year old kid in the summer of 1967 when I was introduced to Yosemite Valley and all it's wonders. The park was not as busy as it is these days...one could just roll in and secure a camping spot on the valley floor with no reservations and stay as long as one wanted...sites were first come, first serve. We spent all day enjoying hiking, swimming and sight seeing all of the wonders of the valley. As the day turned to evening we were back at camp on the valley floor and were witness to the Yosemite Firefall...a custom that had started in 1872 and consisted of a huge bonfire created with bulldozers at Glacier Point. As darkness took over the valley the dozers would shove the huge bonfire over the edge of the point and the fire would free fall 3000 feet to the base of Glacier Point over a period of several minutes. It was a magical sight to behold and drew spectators by the hundreds every evening. Little did I know that as I viewed this event it would be discontinued in January of 1968 due the stress the crowds caused on the meadows below. There is really no place quite like Yosemite even under the stress of us "loving it to death". Thanks for sharing your recent adventures there...brought back a lot of memories for this old voyager.

OMG! The FIREFALL!! That was so amazing. I’m lucky that my father shared his love of hiking and nature. Took me on 3 hikes from Mammoth to Yosemite. 3 times solo after that. I’ve been all over the world but Yosemite is still my favorite.

This production was worth every minute of waiting! "Big sighs" throughout the video! "Wow's" galore! The footage of the bottom of the waterfall, around 10:30, was "heavy sigh" stuff! Girl I think you put way too much pressure on yourself for your videos. I for one love what you put out... seeing the seasons change, seeing all the adventures you go on... I love them so much!! You help me remember that there's so much more out there in the world than our day to day stressors. I don't get the chance to travel much, and so it's really great to see so much nature through your content.

you pretty much summed up exactly what we are going through. we try so hard to find the balance between recording content and living in the moment with our family and then when i go to edit a video i'm mad at myself for not recording more so that the video can make sense.. and then we saw we will try it over again next week, or next month, and then repeat it all over again... and now here we are a year later without any videos. your videos are so inspiring and brings hope that we can find the balance and maybe become a decent youtuber again haha thanks for sharing!
Ahh you’re definitely not alone. The struggle is so real sometimes - especially when working from the road on a small laptop, sporadic service and limited hard drive space. Character building for sure, haha…but worth it 😊

I mean this with the utmost respect and admiration, I've never thought of you as a CZcamsr. There is a shyness about you that to me felt like you weren't truly comfortable in front of the camera. It sometimes felt forced. But what you are, in addition to being earnest and honest, is an amazing communicator with both your gorgeous visuals and the way you express your thoughts. I have previously commented that you could be a really good filmmaker. And I still believe that. Whether it's something that you want to do is another thing. And I completely agree with your sentiment of not having the need or desire to document everything. Somethings are just meant to be experienced and documented in one's memory, not film. So good for you for not succumbing to what is expected and following what most other CZcamsrs are doing. I find the oversharing a bit strange to be honest. I look forward to the next one whenever that is.

Christian, most of the comments here reflect the reality that your videos have achieved. People don't want videos every week, but videos that touch our hearts with the quality of the scenes, the soundtrack and the whimsy of the landscapes. Keep being yourself.
I don’t think anyone expects this channel to have a regularity, so don’t stress about it! This is by far my favorite channel to watch and get excited any time you have a new video. I love how raw and honest it is. I would love to travel and see the country like you have, but you’re giving me the chance to see what you experience. ❤

I don’t think you are a bad CZcamsr, if anything it’s the opposite. We the audience go about our lives and when you drop a video it’s a guaranteed enjoyable video. Not many people have that kind of reliably amazing video quality. So yea, you are an amazing CZcamsr in my opinion.

14:17 How cool is that patch of snow on Half Dome that looks like it melts into black varnish down the face. It really reveals how that varnish got there in the first place. You're a pretty great CZcamsr.

Yay! Thanks for the preview of Yosemite! I am driving out from Denver at the to stay just after Labor Day. Has been on my bucket list since I was 12. Just turned 63 on Sunday. LOL. Oh my gosh the ending is so funny. I really appreciate your videos too and CZcams always notifies me when you have new content so I just enjoy them when they come. Quinn is so much fun too. I've backpacked in Yosemite up to Clouds Rest. That spot you found up above Yosemite Falls is epic. I want to do that. I haven't been to Yosemite for 20 years. It's my 50th birthday this October and I think it's time to go back as part of my celebration.

Ever since my first and only visit to Yosemite I have always felt that it was my happy place and where I always long to be. Thank you for sharing what you've been up to. I enjoy every video you post, no matter how far inbetween. I'm so glad you are doing what you love to do, obviously you find a way to get by. It shows that you love what you're doing, and not becoming a slave to be a "Good CZcamsr", I think it's perfect. I must admit I'm scared of heights, so to see the two of you out on the edge of cliffs had this mother screaming at you! HAHAHA. Keep having fun. I have the goal set to be on the road in Nov., hopefully I'll have a bus to build out soon.
