I'm a TSU alum and the opening was an element of surprise. Putting it all together makes sense. The Ocean was coming to battle SU. So, i think the military style entrance was relevant and the song was appropriate. I think it was another way to differentiate himself from his SU roots. I think Brian is a genius and his music selextions since hes been at TSU has been diverse and I LUV it!
FINALLY something different!! It's been frustrating seeing SWAC bands do the same thing over and over again. Glad someone decided to take a risk.
Only people that don't know about band drilling would call this trash this is nice 🔥
Who would call this trash... The crazy... I'm SU all day but them people drilled...
@j.tradeforexinc.2819 I was at the game in person and heard several people say this is trash and what are they doing etc. That goes to show you alot of people just be hollering stuff and don't know what they talking about.
I agree. I marched in a pwi and this wasn't trash at all.
@@IsomeMajesticjust like our people always mouthing off and not knowing what's going on.
Cats be hatin on that ocean 😂😂 🌊 them people put a show on weekly !!!
I Hope txsu continue in this path this show was 🔥from beginning to end sounding and looking good
They my favorite band the last two years.
Pure genius to board the field playing gunsmoke. Now that’s a message in the music. BEHOLD! 💚💛
Definitely something unexpected for sure. I enjoyed the show.
Good the bad the ugly theme song ok
Clint Eastwood
This is the best drill I have ever seen a HBCU marching band do in my life! Way to go, Texas! I am a Southern fan, and I can honestly say Texas Southern gave them the business. However, I do feel Texas Southern has way too much auxiliary. I counted 17 ladies on the dance line 3 majorettes, and however many flags girls. If Texas Southern was to use only the dance line and one majorette and allow the dance line to utilize the flags as well as be featured in a dance. It will clean up the look on the field and in the stands. Nonetheless, I still stand by what I believe and that is, this is the best drill I’ve ever seen at HBCU marching band do and all of my 43 years of living.. Congratulations Texas, you now where the crown and reign supreme for the marching band who drills the best on the field.
Are you goddamn serious right now?? Type In Norfolk State University 2023 please
Texas Southern, I am Juke all day, but i have to say that this was good. Great job Brian. We miss you but appreciate how you are helping the youth at TXSU to be excellent. The drills were very well executed and the sound was good. Keep it up.
SU ran TXSU clean up out of that stadiums and I am not for either but you lying!! Y’all don’t keep it real
Who is yall? I did not say they did better than SU. I said they did well and they did. @@gravestone2439
No they didn’t , I was there and I know you would like to think so especially with the DJ playing every time the Ocean played.
@@georgefoley2128 Straight Facts
This reminds me of Texas A&M
I marched in a program that has borrowed from other bands😅😅😅…..they (TxSU) look good.
I was just about to say the same thing
Exactly!!! TAMU...Wonder why they did that kind of a show...
I said the same thing
He can play both crowds
I've never seen them enter field like that before so that was pretty interesting. The drills were fantastic and the dance team was awesome. Over all on a scale from 1 to 10 I would give them an 8 1/2. I took points off for song selections other than that it was a great show. For me they were very entertaining and more so than su. Proud of you Txsu.
Go watch Texas A&M, and you'll see how it was supposed to look. 💯
@@snobbypolitics7792 ok I will do that.👍
This was different and it was excellent and unique. I see people keep saying that they copied Texas A&M style but, their are so many other PWI marching band that have that same military style drill however, this was the very FIRST for an HBCU marching band to have mastered this skill, it may not have been 100% neat but it goes to show how the ocean have become so diversified in their field show performances. It was getting very tiresome seeing these swac bands doing the same tired diamond shape rhombus formations, kudos to the ocean to manifest something that NO other HBCU marching band have or will achieve for a opening field show. Great Job
TXSU jus won drill of the year...jus watch🌊🌊🌊
Wow... Drilling is emaculate!!! 😮😮😮😮
The website was gold... Wow... 😊.... Roundaway Girl sounded amazing...
That Round The Way Girl was something serious!
I liked it too
There are a bunch of liars or deliberately ignorant comments regarding the opening of this field show.
Texas A&M is NOT the only band that used these formations. Literally OSU did a similar pattern:
czcams.com/video/eZ4BpWOfCj0/video.htmlsi=FzckgLTwGKM2fHjw
(3:08)
Btw: OSU, Michigan, Texas A&M and other Corp style bands have done the similar shows.
Kudos to TxSU for thinking outside of the box.
Shame on the haters for purposely lying and saying TxSU is copying Texas A&M when they aren’t the owners of Corp style patterns…because ALL bands (show style and Corp) are modeled after Military marching commands.
Ooooooo that entrance drill was NICE. I would've picked a different song. But the drill itself 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Song was spot on 🔥🔥🔥🔥
As an ocean alum, im enjoying how fresh things are. You just never know what to expect compared to our regular traditions and this makes the shows more entertaining
Not an Ocean alum, but I was cool to see something different from an HBCU Band. You always have to appreciate the work that went into getting the students to deviate from what they’re used to. I dug the show, even the opening Western “Showdown” theme.
Now Brian I like the new approach on the field nice
Their drill!!! 🙌🏾 Different from what we are use to.
Love the New Drum Major Uniformm And Band Overlayers and Performance
Jamming that Clint Eastwood theme music at the beginning of their show.
That Texas A&M entrance was nice 💯💯💯💯👌🏾
Are you being funny or you really don't know that this is Texas Southern?
@@gcuthrell1 get out chu feelings now…. No one was being funny. This was actually a compliment because I believe TXSU is the best drilling HBCU band today! Not often you get SWAC bands adding some of the corp style in their drills so this was actually impressive! Please don’t be sensitive like some of these jukes…. Stay strong 💯💪🏾
Some people have never seen Texas A&M drill, this is TEXAS style at its finest that can't be imitated. Love it or shut up!
😂 the ending was nasty “love it” ❤great job motion 🎉
the drill was fire
The hate from jukebox people is real😂 and the hate this time is because the Ocean did a military style drill😂
@@dwaynedwayne8342yeah...the TSU band BEFORE the "Ocean" did these drills. Butler brought Patterns in Motion from his own background even though Moffitt was Michigan state. Moffitt was at UofH during the 70s...
It was a mess and I am not for either but SU tore a hole in them
Whoosh !!!!! 1969 !
Top ! Notch ! Whoosh !!!
This band is making new strides. I love what they are building.
If they bow at the end it’ would be perfect
MOTIONN❤
Great visuals. The dancers uniforms look similar to the Jsettes. #smurfette
Smurfette is my nickname. #funny
Started off little rocky with the center of the band DM end on the 52 But it came together
Trash means was poor quality. These kids did well. Lets show love while doing jag brag #nobodydoesitbetta
I saw them😂
Txsu doing Su like Famu does BCU
Impressive
I like that its different thank you txsu, 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Except concert formation
I always said an HBCU need to do Texas A and M drills because they havent been done. How ironic that a Texas school has done it. Now that song choice needs to change. Know your audience
The band before Prof Butler 1930s-1960s did mostly all military drills. But going beyond step 2 shouldn't be so rare in the swac. What's truly funny to me sometimes is claiming patterns in motion drills by su fanatics as their originals when FAMU has done the same ones from that book and done way MORE of the drills in that book that su never did😂
Oh yall drilling Drilling
why was the trombone player running like that during the dance mix?😭
The run around part had me confused. Were they mocking SU. I didn't follow. Wish they had a drone for an aerial view.
Yeah it was most definitely mockery lol@@carmenjames7807
Lil boy at the end of the Texas Southern show “don’t ever post up in front of the BTones no mo” you gonna hearing problems 🎉 ijs
I love the drill, very creative. And no it's not like Texas A&M 😒 smh 🤦🏿♂️ lol
That’s got Texas A&M influence all over it and What’s wrong with that. Hell all hbcu bands were influenced by big 10 bands
It was 100% a CRAPPY imitation of TEXAS A&M!
@@allandodson9241it's not TAMU's front opener. Looks like it and i thought so but no, it's the military box-morph. I've forgotten the name of it, it's been so long. TAMU's is longer and "wider".
It’s definitely Texas a&m
Good job Texas A&M😂😂😂
I can see they are really taking on Southern style especially in their approach to drilling.
So nobody seen them crooked lines? 🤦🏾♂️but they can out drill SU right? Right
Su had crooked lines as well. Ain't no band perfect
They can and did. Lol
@@mocitydon9325 😂😂😆
We're not gonna imitate a Jukebox drill this week. We're gonna go Texas A & M instead. Someday we'll create and innovate our own drills. But for now, we need to use other band's drills to be successful.
czcams.com/video/J7E0Bb-7xwU/video.htmlsi=g2avC430UlPqVD8d
Facts. And they got killed in the 5th with all them dry songs they was playing
Thanks for posting that link, i now know for certain they didn't copy Texas AM.
@@bmslhshe's on every video claiming drills written by Bill Moffitt anyway.
Guys musicians sample people's music all the time. It's okay to not make an original drill and songs every single week. Drills can be sampled also.
@@carmenjames7807 Sample? There's a huge difference between creating and plagiarism.
When you plagiarize some other band's art, the courteous thing to do is give credits.
I say this for those who think that Brian was being so genius and creative with this drill when all he did was an imitation of another band. He's developing a reputation as a drill thief as well as a Jukebox marching style thief.
Demand change before its too late and you are another imitation band like Jackson State.
Nothing wrong with it, so there should be nothing wrong with it being pointed out to those that's naive about it.
TXSU please don’t do that drill again it was boring
TxSU did a AWFUL job at IMITATING TEXAS A&M Fightin' Texas Aggie Band during the down-field. #SAD The mid-field drill was dope and the band sounds AWESOME!! The girls were really good. The feature got sloppy at points, but overall it was really entertaining and eye-catching! The band dance added zero to the show, lol. 💯💯💯
🗑️-
You don't know nothing about drilling and it shows
👎🏾
