I'm Irish and will be in the Philippines next month for my second visit in 2 years
I tried most of the local dishes, but I'm far from a foodie, the peach mango pie and pineapple juice from Jolibee was best lol.
I did try Sisig in Angeles city, it tasted much like white pudding from Ireland. Very masarap 😊
Yup the peach mango pie is next level! Love it so much! And OMG yes that's a great comparison to sisig, now I'm craving both white pudding & sisig 😂🥰💖
My partner is Filipino and lives in Ireland, I plan to bring white pudding for her family to try😁
I should never have Googled what's in Sisig ha ha
I think your comparison is pretty spot on, on how mang inasal is to Filipinos as Nandos is to the Irish and the UK.. that bit about how he got most of his descriptions of palabok wrong is hilarious..
Thank you so much 🫶🏼🇵🇭🙌🏼❤️ and yeah I don’t know what was happening with Lees tastebuds 😂😂😂
The sago gulaman is made out of brown sugar syrup with banana essence. It’s good for a hot summer drink.
It’s so good! So refreshing 😋🫶🏼🙌🏼
@@LaurenCotter well if you go to Bocolod which they called the city of smile. Get the real chicken Inasal you need to go to chicken country. They make the best chicken inasal. If you do go to Cebu you really need to get lechon like in Rico’s.
there's only few people figured out that you need to mix the halo-halo before eating it, so glad you did it. thumbs up for you.
Thank you! 🥰💖🙌🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Filipinos use the spoon to both cut and scoop as most of our food is braised and tender. Palabok sauce is usually a combination of pork, shrimp and anato oil that is stewed down and thickened like a gravy. It tastes best with a squeeze of calamansi (small lime) and a dash of fish sauce.
Thanks for watching 💖🥰🙌🇵🇭🇵🇭
Welcome to the philippines!. U will love it here. And u will see all your videos boom, Filipinos love vloggers and shoutouts lol. Enjoy and welcome!
Thank you so much 🫶🏼🇵🇭🙌🏼❤️
I am happy 😊 that you are in The Philippines 🇵🇭. Further, the food is good 👍
Gulaman has a seaweed called agar agar. Popular in China 🇨🇳, South Korea 🇰🇷, Taiwan 🇹🇼 and Japan 🇯🇵. Different names based on the languages of these nations.
Suggested locations: Quezon City, Baguio City (the Nashville of PI), Masbate (the only Southeast Asian location for a rodeo) and Cebu Island 🏝.
One activity to do anywhere in the Philippines 🇵🇭: karaoke 🎤. It is training for Morissette Amon, Arnel Pineda and other Filipino singers. They start when they are boys 👦 and girls 👧.
Thanks for all the recommendations! 🥰💖🙌🇵🇭🇵🇭
Try also JT's manukan inasal owned by famous filipino actor Joel Torre. He's from where chicken inasal originated
Ohhh sounds good! Thanks for the tip 🫶🏼🙌🏼🇵🇭
We don’t really use knives for eating. Only spoon and fork. We can slice almost anything using spoon and fork and u missed out on the calamansi to the Palabok coz that’s a must and chicken oil poured into the rice plus the soy sauce, calamansi and chili dip for the grilled chicken or chicken Inasal.
I'm gutted I didn't get to try the chicken oil, I don't remember seeing it or it being offered to us. It sounds delicious though! Thank you so much for watching !! 🥰💖🙌🫶🇵🇭
Awsome... Thanks guys!! 👌
Thank you so much for watching! 🙌💖🫶🥰🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
For almost 7 pounds with unlimited rice there’s no way you can go wrong 😋
Right!! I couldn’t believe the amazing value and flavour 🙌🏼😋🇵🇭🫶🏼
About that price, everything in Boracay is actually more expensive than the rest of the country. Even fast foods. I was aactually shocked at the price difference, lol. Imagine you're in an ordinary town eating rhose goodness.
Yeah the prices seemed a little higher in cocktail bars and restaurants, but the value in Mang Inasal was unmatched! I couldn't believe we got soooo much food for under £7! 🙌💖
Bon a petite.Every Filipino food is delicious.Enjoy.
So good! Thanks so much! 🫶💖

1. "Pecho" is chicken breast.
2. Halu-halo originated from Japanese immigrants who lived in Manila in the 1920s. They served kakigori (Japanese shaved ice dessert with sweet beans) at first, then this dessert evolved over the years into the halu-halo that we know now.
3. The fruit that you thought was pineapple is jackfruit.
4. Mang Inasal's halu-halo is better than Jollibee's.
Thanks for all the info 🫶🏼🇵🇭 ohhh I didn’t even realise Jollibee did Halo Halo too!! I need to try it and compare 🙌🏼❤️
@@LaurenCotter I think Chow King's halu-halo is the best among the fast foods. If you come across a Razon's or Icebergs or any restaurant in a mall that serves halu-halo, you should also try them out.
Try BOPIS! it's our version of haggis but not stuffed in a pig's stomach.
Hi loren, enjoy yourself and company.
Thanks so much! 🇵🇭🇵🇭🥰💖🙌🫶
Mang inasal is so good
Sooooo good!! Great value for money too! Can't fault it. Just wish they would open up one in London now haha 🙌😊

Awww shucks! Thank you so much ❤️🫶🏼🙌🏼🥰🇵🇭
Mang Inasal is famous for these: Halo-halo, unlimited rice, inasal (Bacolod-style grilled chicken) and chicken oil.
Btw, the inasal is usually dipped in toyomansi (soy sauce with kalamansi) then eaten with rice that's drizzled with chicken oil. You could maybe check how Pinoys eat there here on CZcams, too.
All delicious and thanks for the tip we will check it out on CZcams for the next time 🫶🏼🥰🙌🏼🇵🇭❤️
Mang Inasal is also owned by Jollibee Foods Corporation. They also got other brands as well namely: Greenwich, Chowking, Red Ribbon, etc.
Explains why I like them all 😂🙌🏼 thanks for watching ❤️🇵🇭

Mang Inasal and Kenny Rogers are my fave in the Philippines when it comes to chicken bbq fast food there.
Ahhh i remember seeing Kenny Roger’s in Manila Airport and I was so confused if it was something to do with the country singer 😂🙌🏼🇵🇭
@@LaurenCotterIt was indeed started by Kenny Rogers the country singer and a business partner in 1991.

I miss MANG INASAL 😖😖😖😖
Me too!! Craving it currently haha
@@LaurenCotter I miss Mang Inasal maam. 6 years I haven't been home in my home country. That is the first meal I will eat when I get home, MANG INASAL!! Well, thank you po that you liked our country and its dishes, especially Mang Inasal.
4:00 No, Lauren. That drink is composed of water, caramelized brown sugar with vanilla, banana essence, and black seaweed gelatine. It's not an iced tea.
Ohhh I see, I didn't realise. It's a really nice drink. I'd deffo get it again.
Jollibee food Corp. Already bought the franchise company Mang Inasal as well as Chowking and Red Ribbon bakeshop I think even Greenwich pizza.
Sizzling Sisig has different types of varieties right now but the original is pork back then it is meant to be eaten with beer not as a meal, now you can find chicken, seafood sisig version and even vegan sisig version like tofu, mushroom, banana blossom or young unripe jack fruit as alternative to meat version of Sisig.
Thanks 🥰💖

Replace Pizza Hut on Chowking's spot. Chowking isn't that great anymore.
Thanks for mixing the halo halo. My pet peeve is when foreigners buy the halo halo and not explained to them that they have to mix it. 😁👍 Enjoy
Haha I had to do my research before hand. It was delicious 💖🙌
Wow nice food yummy

Nandos chicken is stingy! HAHAHAHA 😂 £5 for that meal? Jeeebuz. I'm jealous I didn't have Mang Inasal last time I went home to the Philippines. Watching here in the UK. Enjoy!

Mang Inasal is owned by Jollibee so with Chowking, Red Ribbon etc.
That explains why I
Love it so much! 😂🙌🏼🇵🇭
@@LaurenCotter you should also try going to LaLoma in Quezon City if you crave for Lechon, because of the abundance of stores that sell Lechon in that particular area alone and that's why it's called the Lechon Capital of the Philippines.
@@raymunddomingo6954NOPE, CEBU IS THE LECHON CAPITAL IN THE ENTIRE PHILIPPINES
Purple yam is called Ube, not taro. Similar but different. Endemic to the islands.

Fast food restaurants omg
Taro is different from Ube. 😉

Pecho (chicken breast) is the least flavorful part of the chicken for me It is less juicy and tougher than the rest of the meat. Thighs or legs would be the best.
Ohh I love chicken thighs, so much more flavours! 🍗
Yeah chicken breast has less flavor but has higher meat content thats why its more expensive than normal
⭐️ we eat with a spoon and fork. Google a howto.
Ahhh that makes sense as to why I couldn’t see any knives 😂😂 I need to watch a how to 🇵🇭🙌🏼🫶🏼❤️
*_I clicked the thumbnail hoping to hear the Irish accent like Saoirse! Was a bit disappointed not to hear it._* 😊😊😎😎
Hahaha sorry to disappoint, my accent is a lot more neutral. I was born in NYC but grew up in Ireland then moved to the UK when I was 18, so it's a mixed bag 😂🫶
You’re meant to make a dipping sauce for the chicken.
No one told me at the time, I feel like I missed out. Someone else commented about chicken oil. I wish I got to try it!

Different kinds of vegetables should you try especially from many provinces. No one will trying to eat vegetables from different provinces.
I tried chop suey in El Nido, it was like stir fried vegetables. Does that count? 😂🙌
it's funny how people can be grossed out by liver in certain places, but if you go somewhere else, they'll charge you a week's salary for an oz.
So true! 😂🙌
Palabok is usually flavored with shrimp and smoked fish

hahaha I'm not from Dublin, sorry to disappoint! Thanks for watching 💖🥰🙌🇵🇭🇵🇭
People just need to be cautious if you have allergies because traditional palabok is made with crab fat which makes the sauce orangey.

@@LaurenCotter what i island of the country you've travel may i ask?
You should travel the south of Luzon the Bicol part. Caramoa, Calaguas.. see the great Mayon volcano its just a Bus away if your stayin in Manila should google it first just for recommendation its not as touristy as the part of the countries famous island.
dessert first before the main course? 😂
Hahaha the halo halo came out first and I was HUNGRY! So dessert before mains that night 😂😂. Thanks for watching 💖🥰🙌🇵🇭🇵🇭
Just remove calamansi seed every time they squeeze it. Its bitter

she ate mang inasal without chicken oil. and that's a crime
Noooo cause no one told me about the chicken oil, I wasn't given any 😭 it sounds so good, I'm gutted I didn't get to try it 💔
Sisig is just minced chicken. It is just a new thing. most probably chicken that was not sold. Halo Halo is not mix mix, most Filipinos just feel the need to give trivia about food items because they feel the need to make it more interested. A lot of Filipinos dont like Halo Halo, because they dont like the beans and Halo Halo is mega overpriced.
Your comment is totally ridiculous, you dont know our food. You are showing ignorance so you are not worthy to make a conclusive statement or perhaps just envy how savory our foods are.
Halo-halo is melange or mixture and could refer to just anything. The dessert halo-halo is a melange of sweet preserves in ice
Sigsig = minced chicken😂😂😂 seriously??? From what planet did you come from?
Getting sick already of these so many videos in youtube with caption ‘first time’ of trying something in the Philippines. Well for most poor Filipinos it would also be the first time for them to eat a proper meal but they can’t afford it.
Sorry, I didn't mean to upset you. That's awful sad to learn that some Filipinos wouldn't have the opportunity to try this food. 💔
Sisig is not good in Inasal😬
It tasted good to me, but I've never tried it before so can't compare it to other places.
Too much hype for Nandos. Didn’t like it , have dip to some kind of sauce to get flavor in the chicken. Mang Inasal you could eat by itself with steam rice .
Yeah that's fair, Nandos isn't for everyone and true you need the sauce to accompany it. Thanks for watching! 🇵🇭💖🥰🫶
Previous early video said "I love a city that is an assault to the senses".. Then couldn't let go of a kid in public...
Imagine the karaoke at nights/early morning you'd encounter before/while sleeping.
I guess you'll just be passing by vloggers and fade after you leave the country if you can't keep up with the normal day to day of the country..
Thanks for watching 🇵🇭❤️
Thanks for trying....but onviously its a like-bait video. You just rapidly want to try everything and say good things just to please. You know what they say, you can't really give an authentic comment on another country's culture until you stay and immerse. Most of the time your voice gives the clue....rapid, fast and has an attitude of "let's get this over with" even to the point of "similarizing" our food to yours just to take hold of how it taste without considering really the real intent.
Sorry you feel that way, I genuinely talk fast all the time, if you watch my other videos you’ll see 😂
And unfortunately as much as I want to spend months in the Philippines, I only had 10 days in total before I had to go back home for work. So, this is just us scratching the surface and trying to see, do, eat and experience as much as possible of your country.
Thanks for watching ❤️
@@LaurenCotter God bless you loren. You are a good person. Just my point of view really. But like i said, appreciated your effort to learn from our culture for such a limited time. Our culture is known to be disowned and demeaned most of the time. But we have seen so much foreigners who went to immerse in our country and really delve into it and have discredit the bad reviews....i hope you can do the same in the future.
Halo halo means you mix all of them. You can have a brain freeze once in a while.Gulaman is a jello .
Thanks for watching! 🥰💖🙌🇵🇭🇵🇭
