Hub Motor vs Mid Drive: Electric Handcycle eBike Conversion Journey Part 3

A big decision in your handcycle ebike conversion is to either use a mid drive or hub motor. The mid drive motor has the benefits of being able to use multiple gears, but it is less robust due to more involved moving parts. Hub motors offer less maintenance and more robustness, but only have one gear so can either have less torque or lower top speed.

Heavy hub motor on front wheel is great, because the extra weight adds extra traction and the only traction we get is from our front wheel..
