I was blown away when I first heard this song, totally amazed when I later found that it was the Monkees, this brought back many happy childhood memories watching them on TV. I am now in tears as the comments here report of the passing of Mike Nesmith, thanks for this amazing version of this song.

Fantastic! An unbelievable comeback album. Normally fans of groups from the 60's head to the bathroom when new songs play...not with the Monkees. The Monkees pulled off the rare feat of putting out a current fantastic album where the new songs are begging to be heard.

Mike's voice was still strong and good and the harmonies were great here. He went out the way a rock-and-roller should -- he died about two weeks after his last show. That's going to the end of the fuse, sir. Rest in Power.
I so loved the Monkees. As a boy, I always looked forward to the next episode of their fab show,. Lovely to see this, what a gorgeous song. Wonderful.
Nez was really a lost and underappreciated genius who could have had a very viable country-western career of his own. If you listen to the old Monkees albums (as well as Different Drum), he really stands out as a unique and brilliant Texan poet, and there was certainly a few albums worth in there. It should have been collected and released separately. Its so ironic and unfortunate if the Monkees experience blocked him from the career and recognition he deserved.

You see the Monkees on TV and feel young , you see these guys hete you feel old , you see the monkees on TV, you feel young you see these guys here and feel old , and you think , where has the time gone , I can almost see people's life span in the flick of CZcams. You dont get long at this game of life why do we all spend so much of it be selfish, greedy , fighting and killing . If only we all spent this short time being happy and loving , and generouse.
It is harder to be kind but I am sure it is way better. The hard part is what drives many away. Remember, it is always better to be what you know is good. Life is too short.

Yes Yes Yes, I agree: Aside from two or three clunkers, it's a terrific album, this song being the center piece in my opinion and Peter's rendition of the that Byrd's song is amazing.
There's a couple songs which didn't make it on to Good Times which could've easily replaced the "clunckers";
A Better World and Terrifying.
But that's the Monkees, they had so many great songs in the 60's which didn't even make it onto original albums (Steam Engine, All the King's Horses, Come On In, Of You, Down the Highway, etc, etc, etc.)

@@Bruce15485 I never thought anyone would ever compete with Nat King Cole's rendition of The Christmas Song, but The Monkees' version is just fantastic. Nesmith's vocals and that pedal steel are pure magic. I also like House of Broken Ginger Bread, Silver bells, and Wonderful Christmastime. Great album!
