    This was very helpful, I am 33 and have been slowly taking steps to leave my job after 13 years. I took a weekend dental assistant course a few years ago, but never accepted any job offers. I originally wanted to go for Hygiene and even enrolled in a community college. But again, never continued with it due to personal reasons. The universe is working in mysterious ways, I see an open opportunity to be able to take these steps again and now that I have the support I am getting excited to start my journey. Of course I am scared of failing my classes, I feel I am pretty smart but anatomy is frightening. I watch a lot of CZcams videos to help motivate me, this one was the most helpful in terms of an action plan. Thank you ☺️

    I love this video very straight forward! Every dental hygiene school is completely different with the admissions process. Some require one thing another school can require something completely different even down to the interview process. We had to write an essay one of the dental hygiene program. They only look at your test scores in your prerequisites. Everything is different, so you really just have to research every school individually because everything is different. No dental hygiene school is the same.

So just become a dentist and get it over with you make way more money than a assistant or a hygienist. Can you share your experience with shadowing or any recommendation? Thank you.

    • @KaleshaMonet
      @KaleshaMonet  Před 3 lety

      Shadowing was a requirement of the actual application to apply to my program. It was a strict guideline to follow. I could only get so many hours at one office vs another. There were forms created my the program that the hygienist I shadowed had to sign afterwards as proof. Check your school’s application policy on shadowing..

    You said that there are usually 1-2 years of prerequisites to take before the actual dental hygiene program, how does that work? Like will that cost extra money in addition to the tuition for the degree? Will I be taking those prerequisites at the college that is offering the program?

    • @KaleshaMonet
      @KaleshaMonet  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes, it is in addition to the program costs! Depends on the school you attend.

    • @galianyc
      @galianyc Před 2 lety +4

      That will depend. Hygiene programs usually have limited seats, so they only accept a certain amount of students (it's very competitive in most states). Most programs have a bunch of pre-reqs, some don't. For example, NYU only requires a BIO and MATH class before applying which you can take anywhere, but it's an expensive private university. Community colleges near me require a lot of courses so it would take anywhere from 1 to 2 years depending if you've taken some before and if you enroll full or part time. Some schools prefer if you do the pre-reqs in their school because 1. they only accept students from their own school, or 2. they take into consideration length of time you've been a student in their school. The last part means: someone that took pre-reqs somewhere else might get accepted into the program, but only if there are no other options. I hope that makes sense. You should definitely check with the school you wish to attend. You have to pay for all classes you take although some community colleges could be free depending on income. Many 2-year colleges in NYS offer full rides through grants/scholarships if it is your first college degree. Overall, community colleges are the most affordable option.

    • @KaleshaMonet
      @KaleshaMonet  Před 3 lety +3

      At the program I attended, it was up to me to find patients but the also had recall patients that attended every 3, 4, and 6 months that would be assigned to students. I recommend to spread the word wherever you go in GA. For instance, on my college campus, I’d meet with the teachers and coaches to ask that they make it a requirement that their students and athletes come see me at the clinic.

    Hey, I see that your shirt says Mississippi Delta and I was wondering did you attend MDCC? I am a full time student there and I will be applying for the DH program soon. If so, how was the program? Was it hard to get in ?

    • @KaleshaMonet
      @KaleshaMonet  Před 2 lety +4

      Yes, I went to MDCC (best decision ever btw)! The program was tough but really fun, and because they accept such a small class compared to other programs, it can be more competitive. Go for it anyway! What’s for you is for you!

      Hi, I’m from Mississippi too ( Central/ Madison). Did you get into the program? I went to ole miss for pre requisite courses (for nursing but I’m sure many will cross over to DH), and I’m scared of the difficulty level. Maybe I should do dental assisting first? Thanks.
