The way you did the truss rod here is definitely the best way to do it. Saves the hassle of refitting the strings to the machine
I have one of those in sonic blue too. Beautiful instrument.

I may have protestedeth muchly. It still feels weird and more ‘stressful’ on the already damaged finish than taking it off completely… but I imagine people who do it regularly become smooth operators.

@@SamDeeksRelovedGuitars. Those loose curly scratchy string ends always unnerve me on a Strat.😊
With locking tuners I could agree.

Classic Player 60s Strat designed by Greg Fessler of Fender Custom Shop, according to the serial info. Lovely guitars, I only really started playing my MIM strat after acquiring a few dings!

12:18 spoke wheel is my personal favorite.

Yeah. Makes perfect sense. I still can't find a decent 'conversion unit' supply (to change a regular rod to a wheel)...

@@SamDeeksRelovedGuitars one of my local repair guys said he had to repair a spoke wheel. he said it was just a small spoke wheel welded to an Allen key and fit into the slot. Apparently the glue had come loose and the wheel was just flopping around. he was worried it had broken until he got it apart and just glued it back in. 😂
Not sure what brand it was.

I wouldn't buy a guitar that colour, whispering Sam Deeks. Sneaky bastards, taking the neck off to adjust the truss rod. I LOVE FENDER GUITARS.

You know you pulled the paint off the neck pocket when you pulled the tape off? Not sure I missed this but when you levelled the frets the neck had relief on it so would this not just make the frets uneven because the slump in the neck wouldn’t be touched while you levelled the peaks, sorry if you explained it in the video I just didn’t get it?

    • @SamDeeksRelovedGuitars

Yes. I know I did - that's because, unfortunately, these Fenders have poor finish adhesion - in this case initiated by large neck pocket cracks. You can't sand or polish frets effectively without masking the neck; masking + poor finish = flaking problems unfortunately.
Regarding my levelling technique; I've been using it for about 10 years now and understand it very well. If you don't understand what I was doing here that's OK. I level the frets in their playing configuration with a curved beam that matches the neck relief. Until you've done it this way it IS difficult to understand.

Aw ok, sorry I must have missed that part. Would this work if the guitar has a twist on the neck or do you have other suggestions for dealing with this?

@@philipdowns4176 no problem - yes the method works with twists and compound radii because it is levelling in thin ‘tracks’. My ebook ‘5 Steps To Guitar Set Up Heaven’ shows how to make and use this excellent tool. There’s a ‘pinned post’ about the ebook and how to buy it direct from me on my Reloved Guitars Facebook page if you’re interested.
