Co-written by Steven Tyler and Canadian songwriter Jim Vallance, “Rag Doll” was originally called “Rag Time” due to the song’s New Orleans feel.

The song’s original title was nixed by Geffen Records’ John Kalodner who thought the rag time reference would have no meaning to kids listening to the tune.
As a result songwriter Holly Knight was flown in from Vancouver for the sole purpose of renaming the song which she successfully did and was given songwriting credits accordingly.

This song, along with songs like “Fire Down Below” from Bob Seger and “An Everlasting Love” from Andy Gibb, have got to be so very hard to sing because there is almost no break, just endless singing. Listen to “An Everlasting Love,” does he ever breathe? I bet, Miss Loera, you can sing “An Everlasting Love” with no trouble. You have the talent.

Its really nice to have a video archive of the greatest songs in rock history put together with such potency and verve - great to listen to and to look at. Its like a dedicated MTV channel all of its own. If the best version of a song is always the original chances are that Sara has the best cover version of it.
