After the second video, I was wondering if/when Ryan would say he would like to buy this horse. Ha! He's a very nice-minded horse, and travels nicely, too. Ryan has really tuned into this horse and vice versa. They click. I've had one horse like this in my life (sensitive, but more whoa than go). That was his innate nature since I bought him as a weanling. He ended up being the horse you could jump on after a year of not being ridden, and he'd pick up right where he left off: confident, calm, and content. Such a pleasure to ride and be around...however, with the wrong rider or a nervous rider, he became anxious and unsure. The sensitive types truly need a calm and confident leader on their backs.

@@kimberlyhall7610 I don't think he is confident. Not yet, anyway. He has a good mind, but he is not confident nor sure of himself. He will be, with a good leader on his back. The owner seems committed to the process. I think she'll get the most out of him that she can. The troubled horses teach us so much.

I'm groundworking a mare (during lessons with my coach). She does everything she's told, no question asked, no matter if it's whoa or go. She is easily scared, but never go crazy: she just go a little faster, and slows down by herself a few meters away. In liberty, she follows you until you tell her to work.
But. You need to be PERFECTLY calm; she can't slow down if she percieves a little tenseness in your body language. She won't go crazy, and will respect your space, but she won't slow down.
My coach told me I have the right energy for this mare (herself has too much energy), even though I still have a LOT to learn.
Sadly, I couln't ride her, because I'm not a good rider enough (not good balance, so too much tenseness).

@7:30 It's great that you mention her trusting him more. He could be completely "fixed" and never spook again (impossible because he's still a horse). But even if that were possible and true... she would still not have the trust in him to be that way with her.
I've gone through exactly this with my mare. Sometimes we bend down, step back and take a smaller step forwards for ME! Which is just as important for the horse because if I am worried, then they will learn to be worried in that moment tomorrow. You're always training your horse - good or bad - with the emotions, energy and intention you have. It is SO important to admit, at least to yourself, that you don't trust that horse but you're willing to learn to try. I don't think I told any human in my life that I didn't trust my horse not to spook, freak out and throw me off... But I told her! She's earning it back so fast after using your methods and Tristan Tucker's methods though. We'll be having a blast by the middle or end of this summer and I am SO EXCITED for our future.

      @ktgequestrian4475 Před 25 dny +1

      I quite agree!
All saddles will slip due to the rider twisting at the waist, which puts the weight to the outside. The answer is don't twist. Outside leg back, outside shoulder back.
The horse is getting fed up with aids that are confusing to it. Horses move towards weight. The twist tells the horse to move in the opposite direction to the reins, hence over use of the reins.

I've said this before, but listening to you talk about horses is like a balm to my brain. So many horse trainers out there have no idea the reasons behind what they are doing/saying. What you are explaining makes sense from a behavioural science point of view and from a dog trainer's point of view.
I wish you would take a dog trainer's course, one in particular that I just finished. It has transferred perfectly to my horse training and it took everything to another level. The stuff this guy teaches is INVALUABLE to all animal trainers.

A good way to do that is their family tree, what breed was their mom and dad for example, because that will tell you alot about what their temperament could be like, this way you can experiment with the best way to approach the horse, work with the horse, but different breeds of horses are good at different things as well. You can’t make a horse into something they are not meant to be, because you will be so frustrated with the horse and never see their full potential. That’s my belief anyways.

@@mattwilson4016 my comment meant, I was in shock that 'they couldn't trot with one rein' I actually use roping reins. A rider should be able to trot without any reins 😃😃😃

If you look online youbwill see the many dressage horses that cannot manage the mix of contact/collection and keg. I have ridden dressage and now hate it. Horses are so much more than the stupid horrid tight control. And the gross dropped nosebands...
I cannot imagine why you'd choose a rodeo horse and expect a dressage horse.
He looks like he was a pick up horse....loped consistent with that and the tight turns.
This horse could do so much...dressage NO.

There is no reason to ride a horse with contact, especially with a bit. No reason at all. You can just train the horse to give with and ask, not with a nagging contact. You use the word contact because you know it sounds good. What you mean is force on the bit.

Believe what you will; if it works for you, fine. But, you might want to buy a copy of "Lessons in Lightness" by the late Mark Russell. In it, he shows how to use a snaffle and soft contact to develop relaxation of the jaw, then the poll, then the neck and the whole spinal column. It works.

Why I don’t like the English style of riding. They never leave their faces alone.

There's nothing wrong with contact... but it is a slow process, not something that should be happening for a horse for months in a professionals hands. Especially a sensitive horse. But correct contact, and a horse seeking soft contact, is actually a beautiful thing because they will search for a feel with a long, beautiful, relaxed neck, but only when it is done correctly, and only after they develop confidence in most other aspects of riding.

I grew up around horses, my dad trained me to ride every type of horse with all types of temperament. When I was six I was riding horses by myself with no help. We had a quarter horse named Dock from when I was six till I was 16, best horse ever, to this day I have not met a horse better. I would ride him with nothing on, in the pasture with other horses, that was my happy place! He and I had a huge bond!

Does her saddle fit? The saddle pad is too short for the saddle so i wonder if bracing and bucking could be saddle fit?!?
