This home was boarded up and the lawn was getting out of control. I spoke with the neighbor across the street and she told me that the home had a fire 2 years ago, forcing the owner out. The lawn never gets cut and she tries calling the city with no luck. Now, the owner is in a battle because the city wants to take over the property and demolish the home.

Another great job, Spencer. This may be the record for longest amount of sidewalks and curbs for you. I know you have some buried ones that look like more work than this. But this sure looks to me like the longest stretches.

Your videos have inspired me to try harder with my own yard. My health has been bad for awhile (I'm 64) and the yard was really getting bad. I sometimes only work on it 1/2 hour at a time but it looks better then ever. Thank you.

If you’re retired and can only go for a 1/2 hour than go for a half hour, the main thing is you’re going out there and doing it. And you’re getting some exercise and some sun at the same time, my dad’s going to be 82 shortly and goes out to maintain his lawn, I’ve offered to come cut it but he tells me to mind my business, now the other grunt work like fluffing up garden beds or laying mulch, well that stuff I can do all day long. Some days he cuts the front and back lawns and other days it’s one the next day the other. I’m 57 and if it’s a hot day out I’ll look after the front lawn and put the back lawn off for another day. Try and maintain the lawn the neighbours see.
Same im 68 and still mow and cut trees. Drs tell me not to. If you don't use it you lose it.

I find it amazing how many times that people that have a corner lot have something happen to them that keeps them from mowing their lawn and trimming bushes and trees. But I sure understand how they feel to not be able to do the work. Always lift with your legs, folks! If you pop a disc in your back you will never be the same again. Spencer, whenever I see you finishing your work on these lawns, the term BROOM-SWEPT comes to mind. It is the condition in which a tenant is supported to turn property back over to a landlord. You do a great job of presenting the property for inspection. Thank You.

There was a fire in the house. I think the house literally pancaked on top of itself. You can see that it dropped some when you look at the wall of the garage that faces where the house sunk.
@@steelehere1I agree. We have several earth homes around here and the windows don't look right on this. I think it did literally pancakes straight down. I had a friend whose home did that after a tornado. Crazy

Hi Spenser, great job as usual. I noticed that you do a lot of homes that are also taken care of by city when neighbors call. My two-cents worth is that you should creat a sign for SB Mowing and place it on the lawn for one week ( means you have to retrieve it later). Other than those who watch your channel- neighbors etc. think the city cleaned up the property!!

Very odd home (architecture). All I can surmise is that there is no entrance in the home itself, rather, you enter through the garage. Then walk down into the home.

Great job on another corner catastrophe. strange building for sure. Your expert sidewalk cleanup in fast speed, makes it look so easy, but we all know just how hard that job is. I am betting the homeowner heard about your work, and were thankful for your help. What you do is a blessing for those who cant or arent able to do the work. It wouldnt have killed the neighbors to step up and help a fellow neighbor in need. Whatever happened to being a community.

EXACTLY! another corner lot...what's up with that. not to mention that 30 to 40% of the clean up is city walk way. Communities spent millions on putting in the mats for the Blind & it's buried by grass! City services....i know just pay your taxes and don't worry about what we're doing.....ugh!!

Yep. Cities can be overbearing when it comes to enforcing codes, while other times it can be overly lax. A burned out home that isn't being repaired is 100% a blight and needs to be dealt with. If the home owner didn't have insurance and has the inability to pay for repairs, they probably should consider bailing on it. If they still owe on the property, they could try to find a buyer on a sale that hopefully covers what is left on the loan or just go ahead and declare bankruptcy and get out from under it (insurance is usually required when mortgaged).
I live in a city that looks the other way over blighted homes until someone "wants something" out of the property and the inspectors show up and start harassing the property owner. One would call that corrupt and I'd agree.

Well, Spencer, you have done the neighborhood a great service! What I don’t understand is if this happened two years ago, why haven’t the owners done something with the property? You would think if they had insurance they would have received their money by now. Leaving the house standing is a constant reminder of an unfortunate accident and I would think it would be dangerous. Another story with untold situations in play.

I agree that knowing the back story would be nice, the first thing that popped into my mind is if it was arson by the owner trying to not be foreclosed on by the bank and he was caught, convicted and is in jail, insurance isn't going to pay in that scenario and won't be seized for non-payment of property taxes for three years at least, some counties it's 5 years before being seized.....the again, maybe he was paid and moved to Montana...
@@indianaslim4971 Possible that the city is trying to condemn the property but the owner is fighting it, I doubt the city is really trying to seize it. Hard to say what's really going on, and doubtful the neighbor had the full story. Aside from that, what a strange home design, more of a bunker than a house, like someone built a split level and forgot the top half.
@@AndrewAMartin that's a possibility, although every condemned house I've seen has notices posted clearly. One question about the house that comes to mind is how deep does it go?
@@AndrewAMartin I agree with you on the matter of the city not wanting to seize the house, that would be a liability instead of an asset for the city, now if it was on Main Street it might be a different mindset.
If the owners had the money they would have fixed it up by now. It would have been their highest priority. They don't. They may not have even had homeowners insurance. It's law for homeowners in some states but not in others. All too many times people hold on way too long to properties they have no money to fix up when they could sell "as is" and get something out of it.

I am so glad that you said this. I kept looking at the house and can't really figure it out! There is a somewhat below ground house near where I live but it has a flat roof and the front is where you can see it. This one is very strange! Good mowing job though.
I noticed too. It my have been built that way. It's probably cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Like a hobbit house built that way.

I suspect this house is a product of the late 70's or early 80's when berm homes were all the rage. Having this much of the house in the ground keeps it cooler in summer and warmer in winter. This house may actually be a split level, from what we can see, there might be a full basement under the garage.

Hi Spencer! I've just recently stumbled upon your channel on FB and thought I'd check out more of your videos here on YT. Firstly, I must say, your transformations are awesome! I don't know how you have the energy to do all you do AND by yourself! I can watch them all day! Secondly, I do have an inquisitive question - given the amount of time and effort you put into these properties, do you ever go back say in a month or so and see if the owners are keeping them up?
