  • Is Old RC Better Than the New Stuff? This is the Cross RC PG4A Adventurer Kit Review. Released in 2016, they're getting harder to find on store shelves today in 2023, but they're still out there!
    This is a 1/8 scale hard-body RC "crawler" that's really at home on the trail rather than hectic rocks. Long wheelbase, straight axle, significant body roll and torque twist, yes. But also very attractive and comes with a full-featured light kit that works beautifully.
    Come and check it out with me!

    A very thin sheet of black foam ( .5 mm ) works on my rigs as a blanket to cover and hide red wires etc. A drop of silicone on the painted lexan holds two corners of the blanket for almost no weight penalty. With the tinted windows you will not see the foam at all even in bright sunlight. Thanks for sharing your museum collection.

      Thanks, I've done something similar before. I didn't mention that cylinder on top is for a speaker to be mounted. If I cut that off, the wiring can go flat and then be more easily hidden, too.

      I think of your experience with the AT6 when I answer people's questions about how good the Emo series is. It's not just me!
      Have you seen their new stuff? The Emo x3 and the Emo NT4 both look awesome! (I still haven't built my emo x2 and the x3 is already here and looks so good!)

    This was a really nice look into Cross RC's past offerings. I'd love to see you do a review of one of the more recent vehicles, like the SG4C, the SP4C, or even better, the XT4. Cheers!

    Craig, as always, great review. Thanks for sharing. I've always wanted to build a Cross RC. I have heard and seen so much about them. Well, I pulled the trigger on the VR-4C 1/10 Demon 4×4 Crawler Kit. They had it on sale. So when my better half asks me why I bought another toy truck, I'm gonna tell her it is your fault! 😂

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Před 9 měsíci

      Oof, don't blame me for the Demon!! It crawls about as well as the PG4A here. But it is another of the older kits and it's still fun to build. Thanks for your message and have fun with the new model! Cheers

      @RCTNT 😂 No worries, mate! She can only be mad for so long! Can you tell me if the lexan body is pre-cut in that particular kit? Didn't see it on the site. The sale they had on it was too good to pass on. Same as a TRX4 kit.

      @Noizy-Boy I don't know the answer to that question but I'd suspect yes.

    What a great video. Cross r/c website calls this a 1/10 scale. They look bigger to me.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Před 5 měsíci

      How about that. You're right! It's definitely comparable to other 1/8 scale crawlers, in size, if not actual scale. Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it!

    In a small way it reminds me of the Jeep J-10 pickup trucks in America back in the 70s. I don't know if they were available in other parts of the world, but i always thought they were super cool.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I'm not familiar with the J-10 but I'll have a look now. Thanks for sharing that :) (Yes, I see that in some of them, totally!!)

    • @Mr.NiceGuy80
      @Mr.NiceGuy80 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@RCTNT Heck yeah. I always thought they looked super tough. They were later replaced by the Commanche, which was basically a Jeep Cherokee pickup truck. Still pretty cool trucks but they just didn't look as indestructible as the J-10.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Před 7 měsíci

      @Mr.NiceGuy80 some of the older stuff is just magic, isn't it

  • @BlackSeaRC
    @BlackSeaRC Před 9 měsíci +1

    It looks good in white as it contrasts nicely with the chrome and black elements. I get put off painting in white as it always seems to show dust particles. When I built my PG4A, I totally under-estimated how many spray cans I'd actually need for this body! Officially, Cross-RC describes this as 1:10 scale and although it seems huge, the full-size American pick-ups are much larger than a Jeep style (EMO X) vehicle in real life. I appreciate that it is not the best performer but the old school design appealed to me, as did the scale realism. I originally planned to try to fit a scale interior in mine but the windows are so dark, it might not be easy to appreciate it.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Před 9 měsíci +1

      There you go, I thought it said 1/8 but maybe that was just me projecting my expectation on it.
      I saw your videos about this a while back - I actually had already built this when you did yours but I just hadn't gotten around to doing the video yet! So many cars, so little time, haha! Yours came up very nicely, too :)

      Some stores may stock Vanquish Products, in which case, yes. However, I don't know. When I did the Phoenix Portal last year, I was in the first round of pre-orders direct from Vanquish, which is why I had it in the same week or so that everyone else did (who wasn't an influencer). So, I don't know. Will I buy this one? No plans to at this stage, but maybe. I liked the Phoenix Portal but the performance to dollars ratio wasn't quite up there for me. Still, maybe. ...maybe!

  • @Andy_Yates
    @Andy_Yates Před 9 měsíci +1

    I always thought the Demon series SP-4C had cool looking bodies with that Datsun/Jeep/Toyota adjacent front end. It looks like the demon rock crawler has fixed gearing with how the motor mounts so that makes it a hard pass for me. Might be cool if they sold the body sets :) . The PG4 is a quirky body but I still like the look of it too.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Před 9 měsíci

      The Demon series was dogged by its relatively poor crawling ability, but they definitely looked cool, and I love that there's a hard body and polycarbonate body option when buying one of the kits. Cross RC certainly hasn't been afraid to innovate and try things in their designs, and they've had some amazing hits.

      It's been a few years since I built it and I've run it in 3 states at various events, including in a torrential downpour on a 3.5 hour lap around a lake with many rocks, ledges, mud pits and so on. It impresses me still 🙂
      Expensive, but so worth it.

    What do you think of the new RC4wd Jeep vs the emo x?
    Been thinking of one or the other but not sure of the quality of the RC4wd ?

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Usually, rc4wd axles are okay, but that's about as highly as I'd praise them. They're certainly not what you'd call "good".
      However, I'm not familiar with the axles under the new Miller Motorsports Pro Rock Racer, if that's the Jeep you're asking about.
      I can at least speak to the rugged durability of the Emo X running gear, that stuff will likely be about as good as it gets, similar to TRX4 durability.
      As far as crawling ability goes, the jury is out until I could test them head to head - which I may not do, as I don't plan on obtaining the RC4WD model at this stage. From a quality perspective, I think you'll be able to bash a bit harder on the cross rc model, but it's not a fair comparison as the Emo is polycarbonate and plastic, while the RC4WD is more of a scale model.
      It really depends on what you want from this purchase, basically. Scale, get the RC4WD. All round daily drive durability, Cross RC. Hope that's helpful, from someone who hasn't had the RC4WD unit! Cheers

    • @markcole6475
      @markcole6475 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@RCTNT yes, the miller Jeep is what I was referring too…
      RC4WD has some decent rigs out there but I keep hearing comments about how non reliable this miller Jeep will be.
      I like the size and features of the Jeep , but also like the Cross RC stuff too…I do have a Cross rc truck ..(the flagship version…can’t remember the name..lol) nice rig and very capable …all metal driveline and heavy aluminum/steal wheels also…

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Před 9 měsíci +1

      @markcole6475 that's all fair enough, yeah. I've built a couple of rc4wd kits now and have had two RTRs as well. I've broken one or more axle components on all of them, as well as links, link mounts, drive line parts, etc. The metal they use is just low grade junk, which is a shame because the molds themselves are gorgeous. If only they used better quality metal, they'd be the number one.
      Instead they left a gap in the market for cross rc and boom racing to fill with better quality stuff, which they absolutely did!
