I love how "The Rule of Two" is now known to most Star Wars fans and seeing casual fans react to the armies of Sith from the Old Republic. This just proves how successful an Old Republic Trilogy or show could be. The Old Republic era isn't just for the hardcore fans anymore, even casual fans know Sith like Darth Malgus now. So awesome.

They should really consult the people who make these because they are amazing. And, as you say it feels real but is fluid and well choreographed. So this is the Old Republic Era and it takes place roughly 3600 years before the movies that we have now. Yoda is 900 years old when he dies so it is way before his time. The rule of two has also been around for roughly 1000 years before the movies we have so its way before then. It's a cool time period and there is so much rich lore, cool sith and awesome jedi in the form of books games and comics. I wish that Disney developed storylines about this. I loved your reaction video :) You should definitely try the games they changed the way I viewed Star Wars. The Knight of the Old Republic games are amazing in their setting and storytelling with some of the most interesting characters in the Star Wars (legends) universe. The MMO basically copied the look and style of the main antagonists from the first Kotor and changed their names. It is an MMO after all and the writing, esp. in the early days of the MMO, is quite derivative of Kotor and other Star Wars content. With the DLC's from Knights of the Fallen Empire and forward the writing (and cinematics in particular) got a lot more interesting.

      REPUBLIC:
Jedi knight - classic hero story
Jedi consular - healing and negotiations that aren't short
Smuggler - from Han Solo through Lando Calrisian to Talon Karrde
(+at least 1 romancable/flirtable npc on most of planets)
Trooper - story of your own Wedge Antilles from X-wing books, with a bit of early Comander Shepard
      EMPIRE:
Sith warrior - your path to Greatnes (feels great to go both dark and light)
Sith inquisitor - slave answering to destiny's calling of "Unlimited Power"
Imperial agent - James Bond, Jason Bourne and Etan Hunt, Only you can decide on whose side are you
(Most of alternate endings based on number of people you canside with by the end)
Bounty hunter - Blaze of guns, Sound of carbonite freezer, Weight of coin in your pocket and Sweet taste of revenge, all encompassed with the halo of eternal fame or infame
(completion of all 8 gives so much insight for later expansions from illum onward, like ariving at command table at Ilum where you can see NPC's from all classes (like jedi meeting General who is main quest giver of trooper))

When the trailers are better then the sequels

  • @Reguwudo
    @Reguwudo Před 2 lety +39

The trailers actually showcase the 30 years war between the Republic and the Empire, when the Empire returned to the galaxy in force after building their strength for a thousand years under the Sith Emperor. Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO takes place after these events (mainly the Sacking of Coruscant, the third trailer), during the times of a peace treaty between the two. Personally, the Old Republic era is my favorite Star Wars lore. It's so rich and bountiful in everything we love about Star Wars. It's basically Star Wars on crack. This time period showcases two of my favorite Sith in Star Wars, the Sith Emperor and Darth Malgus. Darth Malgus is the definition of a Sith, and the Sith Emperor is the end-goal any Sith would want to become, so much so that not even Palpatine was able to accomplish what he did. And Darth Malgus... As a medieval enthusiast, I absolutely love everything about these trailers when it comes to Malgus. He shows a great, realistic balance of grounded combat and the type of combat a superhuman would be capable of, and this is only elevated by the fact of what Malgus is capable of. He's a very large man, and the more scary part is that he is unnaturally agile for his size. His swings are so powerful that he can off-balance his opponents, and as we've seen in these trailers he's a very cunning fighter, willing to apply unorthodox tactics mid-fight to gain an edge over his opponents. In the Expanded Universe, it was even said that Emperor Palpatine had Darth Vader study manuscripts written by Darth Malgus himself to help train him.
Loved your reactions to these trailers, if you haven't yet, the order you would want to play the Old Republic era games would be Knights of the Old Republic, Knights of the Old Republic II, then Star Wars: The Old Republic. The first two take place a few hundred years prior to Star Wars: The Old Republic, and as others have mentioned in the comments, Star Wars: The Old Republic may be an MMO, but it's probably the most story-focused, single-player MMO out there. You basically don't even have to grind for levels to continue the story, and everything in the game is voice acted, which is lovely.

It's for any PC (older ones need to set to lower graphic, my mediocre 2 years old PC runs it fine), MMO so others players present when you play it,
the game graphic is still good enough to convey the environment, the vibe for all places. Insanly good stories, ideas, music, settings, world.
FREE to play (the first 100-200+ hours!!!!!!), then a few bucks for the expansions.
Each of the 8 class have own storyline and quests, the game is pure lore. Every quest, every enemy, every location shows a new thing. Just pure Star Wars.
Each quest shows a new ambient, side of this world, each creature, character or location you meet gets a Codex entry to read........
Not to mention that 4 classes are for Imperial side, this world this time period is shown from both perspective, and played by you as well.
Sidenote: the 4th and 5th videos are the introduction to a new mysterious empire that attacks both Republic (Jedi) and Empire (Siths) with an unknown powerful being ruling it. The twins and the girl are his sons/daughter, the female knight is his wife....
and the 6th for the newest expansion introduced a few days ago, it seems Malgus might look for those rejected by Sith and by the Jedi...
I intentionally didn't said anything too precise, you will find out ingame.

The game is for sure worth it, if you do the 8 main stories and the expansion on one light/dark side character each that is 500 hours at least, realistically more like 800 without doing any side missions at all. The old republic universe is very expansive too, lots of jedi, lots of sith, lots of characters in general on a lot of planets with long, interconnected stories. After spending some time in that universe the “current” time Star Wars just feels small and limited, a small world with only very few characters and stories that get regurgitated over and over again.
The game was made by many of the same people that did KOTOR and ME1&2, a lot of the team was moved to SWTOR by Bioware after ME2 which screwed ME3 a bit, but means that SWTORs writing, storytelling and world creation is great.
Main storylines are Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior, would start with one of those. Dark side is definitely more fun in the game though

Iirc, the Twins in the Sacrifice trailer and the girl in the Betrayed trailer aren't from either Sith or Jedi. They are a third faction, thus the Yellow lightsaber. They tap into all that is Force, be it good, bad, and the between. They were such a menace that both Jedi and Sith had to have a temporary truce to fight against them.

It could still be done. The initial investment would be huge, of course, but once they have a good library of 3d models, motion capture, facial expressions, textures, etc., they could start generating content faster and reduce the cost per minute by a lot. Of course, you'd still need a robust team of artists, directors, writers, and so on to keep the quality up over time, which adds overhead, but if they churn out quality like these cinematics on a regular basis, or even half as good, then fans would go nuts for it. I for one would subscribe to a Star Wars streaming service at almost any monthly price for it.

So the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic is still going yet to this day and is Free to Play on PC.
Since I didn't see anyone answer your questions here you go:
    1) SW:TOR is set 3640 years before the Battle of Yavin (The first Death Star blowing up), or 3599 years before Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader) was born
    2) The Sith Brotherhood is a religion so simply using the Dark side of the force does not make someone Sith. There are Dark Jedi (Jedi who 'fell from the light') who use the Dark Side but don't follow the teaching of the Sith. There are Dark Force Users (people who were not trained as Jedi or Sith) like the Night Sisters of Dathomire, the Inquisitors, Starkiller, and The Emperor's Hand (Mara Jade). There are Gray Jedi who use both the light and dark side but do not commit to either side.
    3) The Jedi Order are also a religion, so simply using the light side of the force does not make one a Jedi. There are Lightside or Shining Sith, who discovered the light side can be more powerful than the dark and changed to the light. There are lightside force users like the Witches of Dathomire. And as mentioned before, Gray Jedi.
    4) The "Rule of Two" was established by the Sith 1000 years before the Battle of Yavin. There is a whole history of who suggested it, who implimented it and how it pretty much lead to the downfall of the Sith.
So, the Jedi used to allow their members to get married and have kids to other Jedi but that practice was stopped 4000 years before the Battle of Yavin or 1360 years before SW:TOR. Too many Jedi had fallen to the dark side or were manipulated by people who had captured or killed their families so it was decided attachment can lead one to passion and the dark side. Sith, however, encouraged their members to produce children as over time, they were producing stronger and stronger force users.
Finally, the Dark Side is easier to fall into and easier to grow more powerful, more quickly, than light side users. The feed back loop of negative emotions causes this. The angrier you are, the more hate and fear you feel, the more powerful your control of the dark side of the force is. But there is a price to pay and that is that your body is slowly damaged by the dark side power to the point that you have to maintain this rage or fear all the time just to maintain your life. This also causes mental health issues (obviously) and soon, your dark feelings and control of the force is no longer enough to keep your body functioning. The Emperor was in the last stages of his life at the time of the Battle of Endor and was hoping cloning could be used to keep himself alive (transfering his 'soul' or 'force ghost' into the clone). It was mentioned in books and comics and we saw it in the last SWs movie.

Part of why the story of Old Republic looks so innovative and better is because they don't try to depict the Sith as just your run-of-the-mill cartoon evil, and they show a bit of the two sides of the coin. This is much more pronounced in-game, because the Empire is playable too, so they had to give Empire players also something to feel good about, whereas in the movies, the Sith are simply the evil antagonist and nothing more. In the game, arguably the Imperial storylines are even better than the Republic ones.

  • @WhiteWolfDarkpaw
    @WhiteWolfDarkpaw Před rokem +1

I know I'm almost a year late, and some people commented below on times, but Revan is an important figure in the Old Republic times (referenced heavily in Knights of the Old Republic RPG game), and this is 300 years after Revan.
Revan was a Jedi, and was the Supreme Commander of the Galactic Republic in the Mandalorian War in 3960 BBY.
So this game is around 3660, BBY.
The Rule of Two was set in place by Darth Bane in 1000 BBY.
To be honest, I'm not sure how Yoda would know there would be only two Sith at any given time, as the galaxy assumed all the Sith had been wiped out at the conclusion of the New Sith Wars. And this was the first confirmed sighting of a Sith that didn't result in all witnesses disappearing. (lightsabers leave distinctive burn patterns. A Jedi would recognize them)
Edit: Sith are not, by nature, evil. Sith are simply diametrically opposed to the Jedi in how they access The Force.
The Sith Code, learned by all Sith (Empire Force Users) in this game:
Peace is a lie, there is only Passion.
    Through passion, I gain strength.
    Through strength, I gain power.
    Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
    The Force shall free me.
The Jedi believe true connection with the Force comes through peace and serenity in ones mind and spirit. The Sith believe that true connection comes through feeling powerful emotion. This, however, leads to why many Sith are evil. Negative emotions are far easier to hold onto than positive ones. It's so much easier to hold onto anger, hatred, rage, and the like (and to instill fear in others), than it is to hold onto joy, compassion, and love. And many Sith fall down the Power trap. They feel power, and they want more. It's the crippling downside of the Dark Side Darth Bane recognized, and why he set the Rule of Two in place.
Sith will constantly fight each other in a neverending struggle for more power, while Jedi work to support those around them. Bane recognized that several weaker Sith could take down a rival none of them could best alone, but then they'd fight amongst themselves until only one remains, far weaker than their predecessor. Thus, the Rule of Two. Only the stronger Sith would hold the power. If that proves to be the apprentice, then they deserve the title of Sith Lord more than their former master.

Even the "good" emotions lead to problems when they are used to feed the Force. Take Love, for instance. If you are feeding your power with Love, then what happens when you need more power? You become obsessed. Your Love becomes an all consuming passion. You would do *anything* for your Love, even kill by the thousands and millions to keep your Love safe. And what happens when your Love doesn't love you back, or loves another, or betrays you, or is killed? That Love turns into jealousy, hatred and rage. All of the other "good" emotions have similar problems when used to power the Force. Compassion? Again, what lengths will someone go to feed the hungry, heal the sick, house the poor? An army of Jedi all "robbing the rich to feed the poor" by Force will collapse society.

Very different level of talent between Bioware writers and Lucasfilm. Theres a major misconception that game writing is of lesser quality than that of TV or Cinema.
Another misconception is that animation costs more and takes longer to produce.
Consider that the Clone wars TV show averaged about $1 mil per episode and Rebels 500k.
Blur (The studio that created the first 5 trailers) would produce each trailer at an average of say $600k+. Mandalorian and Kenobi were $15mil PER EPISODE.
With say an average episode length of 30mins you are looking at $500k per minute for current Disney live action. Where as Blur produced these cinematics at $150k+ per minute.
I can not speak for Blur's average production time on projects but I do 3D artwork myself and in that experience can tell you there is a lot of flexibility in 3D you simply cannot get in live action. It's just the Stigma of animation that keeps these kinds of projects and medium underfunded.

Not to mention that they are much better made.
The game SWTOR is so big and so rich on history and content, it really shows how mighty Sith was.

The rule of two was invented by Darth Bane what? 2500 years after the first trailer? The game is set about 3500 BBY. BBY being "Before the Battle of Yavin". To make that descriptor easier to understand to a layman. The Battle of Yavin was when the first Death Star was destroyed. So this game happenes three and a half thousand years before the Death Star is destroyed.
The rule of two was designed by Bane as an answer to the weakening of the Sith. Even in the first trailer you see Darth Malgus cut down his already weakened master. This was common among the Sith of the old republic who formed entire armies of Sith. The specific goal of the rule of two was to encourage power by preventing weak Sith from being able to group up against their masters. There would be one to have the power and only one to challenge them for it. No help.
No. The clones of the clone army were invented by the Kaminoans during the time of the prequels. Before the Clone Wars no such case of mass produced clones had ever been seen by the galaxy. If you were to make a clone it would be one at a time and of one person at a time. They were very rare. Having beaten every playable storyline in SWTOR I can personally only remember one clone in the entire game and it wasn't even alive. It was a body double a smuggler planned to use to fake his death. These men, and specifically the one you see save Satele in the first two trailers, are Republic soldiers. Just conscripts and willing applicants alike. The one who speaks during the second trailer is Jace Malcom, Supreme Commander of the Republic military.
The Jedi who confronts Malgus in the second trailer is Satele Shan. She was the Jedi Padawan in the first trailer. When you see Satele Shan catch Malgus's lightsaber with her bare hands she is using a Force technique named Tutaminis. This technique absorbs all the energy from the blade, which is why it crackles and grows pale where she's touching it. This technique is very dangerous for use like this, so you rarely saw Jedi using it for catching large amounts of energy. Notably, we also see Yoda use Tutaminis to catch Sidious's lightning during their duel. These are the same technique. When later we see Satele Shan stand up and use the Force to throw Malgus through a mountain she is accomplishing that with the residual energy of Tutaminis. Tutaminis absorbs energy, but unless a Jedi releases it quickly the energy will build to a point they can't control and blow up like it did for Yoda. So effectively Satele Shan absorbed a frightening amount of energy from Malgus's lightsaber then used it to throw him through a mountain.
Sith technically do feed off of 'pain' and 'suffering'. But that is only one small expression of the Dark Side. The Dark Side is not pain. It is raw emotion. Passion. We see in the Sith mantra no mention of pain outside of an individual Sith's.
    Through passion, I gain strength.
    Through strength, I gain power.
    Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
Sith could more easily feed on their own pain than the pain of others. At least typically. But any powerful emotion could fuel a Sith's power. Even love.
Yoda is 900 years old by the time he dies. The game starts from 3,643 BBY. Yoda was born in 900 BBY. BBY is counted backwards. The closer we get to the Death Star's destruction the smaller the number. Yoda would not be born for 2700 years after the game.

  • @edmundkempersdartboard173

Malgus is the biggest sith chad in star wars. Killed the woman he loved because his feelings made him weak.
The Old Republic MMO, which these are for, while the stories are great is sadly just your run of the mill, generic MMO. Play it for the stories but don't expect to be blown away by the game itself. The KOTOR duology are great games with some of the best Star Wars story outside the original movies but are pretty dated by now. The Old Republic timeline is a goldmine. I'll take Legends over Disney any day.

SWTOR is the last section of the franchise that stays true to George Lucas and the canon (not the Disney BS) they include sequel stuff and costumes into the game, but Disney on the other hand has no influence on the game. Lets pray it stays this way, They would ruin the character of the game or butcher its content. The moment EA sells the rights to Disney, i quit the game, and i play since BETA, i also still have my first ever character, a female sith, and i play her for over 10 years by now.
For us, the story was insane, because you had to wait for new content. Back in the days, there where companions and one mission you lost them ...

Even the « prequel » of the mmo are two games on pc kotor 1 and 2 ( knight of the old republic) who are freaking good even if a bit old now.
What you just watched was 5000 years before the movies ( and have been made non canon along with everything in Star Wars legend ( which is freaking huge btw) thx to Disney…pffft) and kotor was 300 to 500 years before the old republic.
So you already know the outcome of the numerous wars in swtor since it will lead to the rule of 2 for the sith and later on the ruusan reformation which limits the political power of the Jedi in the republic…among other things such as using armor and modifying the Jedi code a bit.
Anyway the mmo is really good, every npc have voice actor and the story is frankly great especially since every classes has its own story ( first mmo ever where I did every class just to see their story).
