That song was awesome when U2 did it but to have Mary take lead was absolutely incredible!!
Amber…..I felt your emotion as you listened to this AMAZING song. As an old white guy…..Mary Jane was never on my radar, that’s not racial, just musical taste. BUT…..this was on another level. She took U2’s song to a whole new place , for me. And your reaction and emotion was exactly what “everyone’s response should be to that performance. When I saw you wiping your eyes i immediately began to tear up. It was perfect.😍👍
Raymond Polley. I couldn't have put it better. As an old white woman, I totally agree. I always loved the song, but Mary took it to a whole new level. Fantastic performance.
I remember the night my friend asked me if I seen the video. Honestly I was worried because its one of my favorite songs. I was so happy when I seen it. She rocked hard!
Strange. I am the opposite. I love Mary J but don't think this works at all. No accounting for taste is there?
Agree. One of my favorite Christmas songs is her collaboration with Andrea Bocelli singing What Child is This . She took it to another level.
There is nobody old in here with all our young hearts listening to wonderful music😁
The voice of Mary J is so damn good. ONE is one of my favorite U2 tunes and she does this justice. So good!
Blidge really fucked up the song, just yelling over it, no idea of what the song is about and even getting the lyrics wrong, now and again. The whole atmosphere of the song is butchered by blidge just plainly screaming over it!
Such a perfect song. One of those songs that crosses genres. Beautifully sung by Mary J, Beautifully played by U2 and kudos to Bono for writing such a poignant hymn and stepping back to let Mary shine. One indeed.
I get cold chills every time I hear this version. It’s amazing.
Amber you're just like me. When I hear that passion and soul in Mary's voice it brings tears to my eyes and I feel it in my gut. That's being moved by music!
Mary J also did a version of "I guess that's why they call it the blues" with Elton John at Madison Square Gardens. Everyone I hear it, I get shivers. It's live and completely amazing!
Oh wow really? Do you have a link? You should recommend it to Jay and Amber.
The best of both worlds, Mary killed it! Thanks Jay and Amber
ONE ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 MARY J BLIGE AND BONO SO POWERFUL ❤️
I remember when I saw them perform this together and I was truly in awe. Mary poured her heart and soul into an already absolutely beautiful song. I am a huge fan of U2 and Mary so I was so ecstatic they collaborated together! It also bring me to tears. Great reaction🙂
This is fab and the live performance at the Grammies awhile back was transcendent! Mary takes us to CHURCH in a very very cool way that the best of pure love in gospel can!
I remember that performance at the Grammys. It was FIRE. Brilliant! From two iconic artists.🎶
I love this version so much. I forgot how absolutely BEAUTIFUL Mary J Blige is!
Brought to tears here. Mary has a voice from God.
Love this version. It has so much soul & rock‼️❤️🙏🏿❤️🙏🏿Uncle Vino
I've heard MJB sing rock before and she should do more. Amazing talent and really did justice to this duet.
Yes! I agree completely. There is a legacy of soul singers as part of rock classics and it should continue.
Have seen this so many times and it never gets old! Two iconic performers. If you want another duet please check Mary J, and George Michael performing Stevie Wonder's song "As". You won't be disappointed.
Yes! I came across that duet and couldn't believe how good they were together.
Mary j blige is amazing in this song and U2 are confident enough to let her shine. ......
Mary J. Blige's song "Real Love" was one of my favorites back in the day!
I won't lie, when Amber started brushing away her tears, my eyes got watery all of a sudden! What I like most about Mary J. Blige is she's not scared to sing Anything! She could do opera if she wanted, she's a true diva!!
That is probably my favourite song by U2. The vocals were great by Mary and Bono but I want to give props to the Edge! His guitar playing is so beautiful, so Restrained and just tasteful! It adds so much emotion to an already emotion packed song. Beautiful all around!
They did this song together at the Grammys… seriously passionate, and genius performance from Mary..it’ll blow your mind!
This was already a good song, but man!!, Mary J. lifted it up to another level, best version I've heard!! 😍😎💥
This song highlights Mary J's voice better than any song I've heard her sing. I love this one.
It’s one of them but she has PLENTY of others that showcase her amazing vocals.
One of my favorite U2 songs, and Mary J straight rocked this one, no surprise, she usually can handle anything and any genre thrown at her, she can do it! That’s why she’s a Legend, just like Bono and U2!
Mary J did a great cover of Stevie Wonder's "As" with George Michael too!
she does the song so much justice.
Seems like every time Amber cries during a song, I'm right behind her. This song is on my playlist, but I've never been so moved as I was watching this reaction. 💘🎹🎵🎶
Amazing song. U2 and BB King, 'when love comes to town' is another banger 👍❤️👏
Also Mary J sang with George Michael 'As' (covering a Stevie wonder song. It's superb 👌)
Goosebumps moment with her voice 😍
This was beautiful. I expecting a cover of Bob Marley & the Wailers! What a treat this was. It always surprises me that Mary J. Blige didn't have more mainstream crossovers because she's so incredibly talented. Thanks for this treat, and prayers for Uncle Dino. Love you guys! {{{hugs}}}
She does have mainstream crossover. Over 100 million records sold and tons of awards, Oscar nominations, Hollywood walk of fame star, starring in #1 movies and series and the list goes on and on. She’s an icon in the music industry.
Another great pairing is Aretha Franklin with George Michael on the song " I knew you were waiting for me"
This is fire. I have never heard this collab before. Love both U2 and Mary J. Thanks for your reactions. Thanks Uncle Dino, hope you feel better. This was fantastic I had chills at the end when Mary J. was singing the chorus.
Mary J was scheduled to perform this for U2s Kennedy center honors but she got sick. Eddie Vedder stepped in and killed it.
This is one of the greatest songs ever made and I`very been a music fan for 67 years! Awesome collaboration and literally fabulous in every way!
Mary shreds from the middle of the third verse, through the magic chords and final chorus, just soaring. Brilliant.
Back here again 1 year later such a great reaction and brilliant performance.
Mary J can sing ANYTHING!!!!~! One of the great collaborations!
U2 has done so many collaborations with artists of other genres and is so beautiful! Music has no boundaries!
One love has always been of one my favorite U2 song, and then you add Mary J Blige and elevate it even more. Thanks for the reaction!
Mary J took this to a whole other level! Straight 🔥🔥🔥
Excited to see y’all react to this. The lyrics are so powerful and, Bono took a backseat and let MJB shine with the lyrics…always makes me cry. Thanks Dino and stand Strong.
Jay/Amber, you'll love U2's "Pride (In The Name Of Love)", "Two Hearts Beat As One" and "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"!!!
This version is amazing. First time I heard this version and I have tears. What a fantastic version. Great reaction.
This is great song on it’s own but the brilliance of Mary J shows how top artists come together
I have never heard this before,,, OMG MAY J really sounded amazing!!!💙💙💙
Mary kicks this song into the stratosphere. If you're not moved by this then you're basically dead. Mary is vocally unmatchable in this song.
I was skeptical when I first thought about her doing this song with U2. Then BAM I heard it and she absolutely blew me away. Just awesome!
Now do you get it?
Music has so many levels and never stops surprising you.I can not imagine a world without music.
I've always loved this song. When U2 released it I knew the meaning of the song was so impactful. When they later redid with Mary she took it over the top for sure! So much emotion & power!
Mary does an amazing job bringing out all the emotions and meaning of this song. U2 did a great job originally with this song but Mary's emotional performance pushes the lyrics out to everyone.
We keep hurting each other when we should be loving each other.
Look around the world we're in right now. So much hurt while the people trying to spread the love so often feel outnumbered.
Sadly, this song will probably always bring up all these emotions.
Thank you for reacting to this version.
Peace and love all.
U2 was an incredible tour. The music was never dated, always new to the hearing.
This song is very pleasant and has a lot of elements of pop, soul, R&B and the bass guitar 🎸 is really strongly used throughout and combined with the 🎹 keyboard, makes me want to jump 🦘 out of my seat and sway, waiving my arms.
I hit play so fast y’all! One of my absolute favs, can’t wait to your reaction to this!
Thank you for reacting to this. I suggested this last month. This version still gives me chills. So beautiful!
My favorite duet of ALL TIME! I used to listen to it every morning before I got my workday started. Bono & Mary J!
This is my favorite version of this song.
Just an incredibly awesome collaboration. Mary J. brings tons of soul, feeling and emotion with her fantastic vocals. And I love the phrase “found family”. There have been some people in my life who were just that.
You may not be aware of this but MJB grew up with bands such as Def Leppard. And Bono among others actually approach her because I mean Mary! Great reaction.
Beautiful song, prayers for Uncle Dino✝️🙏🏼
guys! there is another Mary J blige duet that will blow your mind! the one with George Michael, the song was called "as". other great great duets are "dont let the sun go down on me" by george michael and elton john, "dont give up" by kate bush and peter gabriel, "miss sarajevo" by pavarotti and u2, and "its only love" by tina turner and bryan adams
I cried with you!
I think I’ve heard this one time before. Imagine my surprise finding it here. Mary J Blige was very much my time but I’m Gen X and cross over from 70s to now. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻🤘🏻
This song erupts my inner emotions. So deep and good. Beautiful 🙏❤️
This version is my favorite! It’s on my playlist that I listen to on the way to work. It’s so frickin’ good!
I was 21 when this record came out, it’s still amasing. MJ and Jody Watley was the thing back in 1987.👊🕺❤️👍
Y’all gonna get tired of me in the comments on this one. Amber I’ve heard this song with just U2 singing so many times and never really ‘heard’ it until this version. (I’ve listened now and realize Deano also suggested it - smart man and I wish him well). Amber, I cry too, because the message is so wonderful. If you trust me, and you should after this one 😁, please check out Hozier with the fabulous Mavis Staples doing “Nina Cried Power”, I know you will love it! TRUST ME! ❤
I can relate to your sudden and sustained tears... "Cause all you got is hurt". YUP.
Beautiful, soulful song!! I think I like this more than the original U2 version. Have you heard MJB’s duet with George Michael?
I ❤ George Michael! I’d love to see some reactions to his wonderful songs. Gone way too soon.
Quite simply one of the greatest songs ever written.
I'm 62, and I've heard of MJB. That was outstanding. Loved it.
I have watched and listened to this dozens of times. I get choked up ...EVERY. DAMN. TIME. Them performing this live at the Grammys is unbelievable. Mary J BRINGS YOU TO CHURCH. Transcending simple live music to a higher spiritual level. ❤
Ho, Mary and Bono. Beautiful, Bono let Mary take it away. I would love to hear them sing together more.
Making me cry one more time...
I'm glad you did this song. It's great with just U2, but Ms. Blige takes it to whole 'nother level!
Jay & Amber! OMG THIS MADE ME CRY!! Two epic artists!! I had to add to this because I know why it makes me cry. It’s because it’s beautiful. It is what this world could be. It’s respect for each other. It amplifies who we are.
Ohhhh, ho ho ho hooooh! Yes, the power of MJB. So impressive. Much respect to her. And this track... it gets your interest right from the start as it begins slowly and quietly, but then builds, and builds, and builds into the powerful emotional anthem. The power is real. Definitely grabs you from the gut at the end.
I suggested it 🙋🏼♀️ But I know several other people in the comments did as well. Mary J Blige came on the scene when I was in junior high with “Real Love” off What’s The 411. “No More Drama” and “Family Affair” was my college/clubbing days. I love Mary J! 😊 I’d thought for sure you would’ve heard it already, but am so happy you guys got to check this one out. And I think Amber and I have similar musical sensibilities because I had the same reaction when I first heard it as well. Edit: Blessings and strength to Uncle Dino ❤
What a great combination.
Mary J just took me to church.
Soul mixed with rock is stunning.
This is my favorite version of this particular song. Mary J Blige owns it!
There's a gospel song called "Lean On Me" (not the Bill Withers song) by Kirk Franklin that has Mary J. Blige, Bono, Crystal Lewis, & R. Kelly. Mary also has a duet with George Michael, a remake of "As" by Stevie Wonder which was produced by Babyface. On a related note Bono is one of the singers on the 1985 track "Sun City" by the multi-artist Artists United Against Apartheid. Bruce Springsteen, Hall & Oates, Miles Davis, Ringo Starr, Run-DMC, Bonnie Raitt, The Fat Boys, a couple of The Temptations, and a bunch of other singers, rappers, & well known instrumentalists are on it.
Mary J has done a number of duets with artists out of her jondra and killed them all!!
Good timing for a collaboration song with the Grammys right around the corner
U2 with BB King - when Love comes to Town is another Great Collaboration
"Wait, hold up... whoa, Amber is going *through* it."
Why was that so cathartic to bear witness to?
I'm grateful for the gift of your vulnerablitly because I got to go on a beautifully emotional ride with you.
This song is on ALL my best playlists!!
Brilliant! My favourite cover of a song ever. Just beautiful!
OMGeeeees ! Fixing to Rock with Mary J Blige ¡ This is absolutely Fire . That will never be topped . The first time I watched this video a few years ago I literally came unglued .
Makes me so emotional seeing you get equally emotional over one of my favourite songs, I love the original, however, Mary took it to church!, I love her cover of 'As' with George Micheal, x
Makes me cry every time
Wow. I am a tried and true classic rock guy. Never listen to any of the newer music. This channel, and the two of you, have changed the way I look at music. So many reaction channels are contrived and fake just to get followers. You two are so genuine and so open to new experience and exposure to music you have never imagined yourself listening to. I found you over a year ago and actually went back to the beginning of your channel when it was just J, and watched every reaction that wasn’t taken down. It took me a while to catch up 😅, but I am current and look forward to your posts every day. I love you guys. You are beautiful people, with a beautiful family and you now have a forever fan. Thank you for opening this old guys eyes to new and exciting genres and fantastic, sometimes funny, sometimes simply adorable reactions. Keep up the great work. Much love from sunny So. Cal.
PS: if you’re ever out this way on vacation, look me up. Happy to be a tour guide!❤
I already loved this colab but Amber's crying is making me cry 😭❤️👍👍👍
Another great combination is "Because the Night" sung by Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen with U2 at the 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Concert. The Boss and Smith actually co-wrote this song, but this is the only time that I know of where they performed it together publicly.
Also "Under Pressure" sung by Annie Lennox (the Raccoon Ballerina) and David Bowie (the Mint Green Duke) with Queen at a Freddie Mercury memorial concert.
Mary J absolutely soared through the heavens here, and I don't know if anyone noticed the deeply spiritual side of this song. It's about the biggest truth on our planet - we are One. but we're not the same. so we must carry each other. That makes me weep with the real truth.
You guys have to check out the collaboration U2 did with Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith at the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
"Whenever I Say Your Name" by Mary J Blige and Sting is a beautiful song.
she sings that at the nobel peace prize, she nails it to a crowd that dont expect to be so involved in it, also the chimes 'still havent found what im looking for' bono very much approved of it
I always request this one. It is based and any question MJB is legend. She raises this song. She sings from the gut. Thanks guys.
gospel for our time
Anyone here remember Nicole Wray (aka Lady Wray) from the late 90's? You should check out her recent song "Piece of Me". I was stunned to find out it was her! It's a gorgeous song that feels nostalgic and velvety.
Said it before Mary never looked better than in this video- I will always love her for this😊
Damn, them onions being cut rn ngl .. great reactions guys! 👏
Highly recommend U2 and the Harlem Gospel Choir singing “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”. It’s stripped down to its raw basic greatness.
Definitely!
Yes!! It made me realize how much U2 appreciates American music and how they have such a strong faith in God! That video is also in “Rattle and Hum” a documentary about U2 and their journey through their influence on American music.
Agreed. Or even the gospel version from Rattle and Hum - both incredible
Absolutely!!
@@kpodonnell7924 ... They're the same thing. The only difference is the film shows the rehearsal at the church but the album is the recording of the choir joining U2 onstage at their concert that night
