The Rock was not supposed to turn heel. Now the wrestling fans who fiercely rallied behind Cody Rhodes on social media when The Rock was going to basically replace Cody against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 completely changed the direction WWE had were heading. WWE fully intended to go with The Rock facing off against Roman Reigns at Mania this year, but because of the insane level of backlash the company received for Cody giving up his spot to The Rock, WWE were forced to pivot and change the storylines, with Cody Rhodes revealing at the WrestleMania press conference that he'd be choosing Roman Reigns for WrestleMania, which completely contradicts what Cody had said on the SmackDown before the press conference where Cody revealed he wanted Reigns but not at WrestleMania, and this storyline pivot resulted in The Rock turning heel at the same press conference - honestly the way things have unfolded with the Cody, Rock and Reigns situation is much better than what was originally planned, but we'll say it again... - Zábava
The fact that WWE is willing to pivot due to massive fan backlash is a good thing.

You realize he’s wrestling on his own volition, right? No one is forcing him to return. He wanted to and he could just as easily leave again if something happens that he’s not down with. So the fact that he’s still around shows that the fans didn’t force him to do anything; he wanted to be heel just like the rest of us wanted it. Heels get to have wayyyyy more fun. Don’t have to be Mr Nice Guy constantly and you can get creative with the insults to the crowd. Way more fun. Of course, I’ve never been a wrestler, but watching all of the interviews and the podcasts and stuff, I’ve learned it’s common knowledge that being a heel is the more fun role to play. Look at Bayley. U think she had more fun getting to hang loose and be herself and have fun as a heel, or do you think she regrets not coming out with the wacky wavers anymore? Or Stone Cold. You think he’d prefer being a good dude that has to toe the line or being a heel that can get somewhat edgy (WWE is still PG this unfortunately) and hurl a few cuss words

Have to hand it to the Rock, he had a stroke of sheer genius when it seemed everything was falling apart, and became the heel we all wanted. He actually saved Wrestlemania. I’m sure HHH had decided to steer in that direction, but it had to have first come from the Rock. The storyline is so amazing right now.

I still believe this was all planned just to make cody the big baby face of the company. I think they knew that the crowd would absolutely boo anyone even the rock it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know how popular cody is at the moment even though I don't like him personally but he won the Rumble said he was going to vs Roman and then just hands it off to the rock randomly like if you really think about it I believe this is the Rock and triple hhh and Cody's idea because they know wrestling better than anyone else in creative. It was pre-planned. There was no story for Rock and Reigns at Wrestlemania 39 so they didn’t do it. Nothing changed to make a Rock v Reigns compelling in terms of a story. This was the direction they wanted to go in.

I actually am enjoying his heel turn. When he was the Nation's leader he was goofy and Hollywood Rock was even goofier but the Final Boss is him as the ultimate heel finally
The plan was for Roman to drop the belt to Cody from the beginning, otherwise he would've never won the Royal Rumble. The problem is the Rock "skipped" the line to fight Roman which pissed the fans off.
What I'm not 100% sure of is if this whole thing was planned to make the fans feel like they mattered and had a voice. In reverse psychology terms it made them more invested.
That may have been the plan all along. There's no way they were dropping the title to the Rock with him only having 3 months of time to give to the business so Cody was winning that belt no matter what.

It’s really amazing how great The Rock is as a heel or a face. He can be gone for a decade and come back and instantly be the best part of the show. The buildup to Mania with the Rock and post mania without him is a noticeable difference.

The fact that they intended to create controversy is because Cody won the royal rumble. It's been tradition that the winner of the royal rumble gets his opportunity for the title. If they truly didn't intend for this to be controversial why didn't they just have the rock come in during the royal rumble and win it. That way there's no controversy. They didn't. It's why you know it's kayfabe.
Similar to WM 30 when fans booed Batista winning the RR. And Bryan was included in the match, Batista turned heel and tapped out to Bryan, making Bryan the champion.

The role The Rock is currently in makes me tune in to see what's next. I stopped watching wrestling back in 2007 but I'm all for what's next for wrestling. It's also good seeing the kids of former wrestlers on the roster and getting a name in the game.
i call cap, punk was suppose to win the chamber for seth. cody rock and roman were always going to be doing what they are. the pivot was going to be rock vs reigns and cody vs seth but they just went back to what they were/are doing which we aren’t even sure what they are doing. a tag match, cody or roman double duty, or special ref rock seem like the most likely things. the chamber should take the tag match off the table but 🤷♂️

Now at the same time I didn't want Cody's story to be taken from him, I still eventually want to see rock vs Roman, and I just hated the fact I thought I was getting it, and now am not, cuz lets be real, codey and Roman are active wrestlers and we can see them wrestle anytime, but we have no idea when Rock is completely going to hang up the boots because he'd eventually no longer be willing to risk injury, since he's one of the most sought after actors in the world.
People started loving The Rock when he said if he should sit at the head of the table. So I'm asking a what if :
What if Solo, Jimmy and Paul try doing something to screw Cody and then suddenly The Rock shows up and beats them ? And then Cody wins the title and during SmackDown live, Cody hugs The Rock and says that it was their plan. Then we have The Rock vs Roman at the next PLE for the real head of the table with a stipulation that if Roman wins, he gets a rematch for the title.
People praise how this was handled. It was just WWE trying to turn chicken shit into chicken salad after the fans exploded when Cody gave up his spot. WWE cleaned it up as best they could, but it was still a mess with three wrestlers having to pull double duty at Wrestlemania to make it all work. The Rock should've never said anything about sitting at the head of the table, and Cody should've never given up his spot.
But that’s also why he said he had many conversations and then restated that same line at the WM kickoff it was like a fail-safe
They were never gonna go through with rock vs reigns at wrestlemania…:this basically was a play to get cody more over and for the rock to make a quick comeback to be with his family in the ring while putting cody over. This deff was the rocks plan, rock vs reigns is coming no question but the rock has to either regain his face card or put reigns over as a face before they both disappear for a long time handing cody the full responsibility of carrying the company
