Always fun to watch the Viper get carried away with speed! I think the fatal mistake in the last fight might've been you dropping the afterburner while going down - it deprived you of the speed you needed to sustain a turn rate while also going back up, and I think you dropped it because your speed started to get carried away and you didn't realise that the hornet had opted to stay high? Going from 400 to into the 200s so quickly seemed like a killer. Despite it looking like such a simple thing from watching, the merge kinda seems like the most dangerous part of the fight - it dictates how the entirety of the fight plays out and on who's terms it's fought if the opponent doesn't manage to neutralise.
I've flown the F-16 for a while now, practicing 1on1 gun fights lots of rounds, but rarely winning. fought against another (much better) guy in an F-16, I accidentally chose an F-18, got the kill so easily it wasn't even funny.

Suggestion: You don't really mention actual numbers very often in terms of aircraft specifics. You may consider mentioning things like ideal dogfighting speed for the aircraft you're flying in your videos, which would be helpful for new to moderate learners. Ideal dogfighting speed, sustained turn rate, instant turn rate, etc!

@Fylgija , the flying is not so bad, especially once you're in the air. Landing has been a bit of work but that's just because I'm impatient. Honestly, the hardest part so far is setting up the controls with what will work for me and learning the numerous systems - the best part is I've really enjoyed doing those two pieces.

Just watched a documentary on the Japanese F2 which is their version of the F16. If it's available in DCS you should totally do a dogfight in it vs an SU-27
I always assumed Japan would just use fighter planes they bought from America. Now I'm gonna have to look this up because it would be fascinating to see what Japanese engineering could produce. I swear the defining element of that country is taking other country's inventions and fine-tuning them to something 10x better.
When you enter the merge and the opponent “forces” a one circle fight, why not just reverse your turn and make it a two circle fight where you hold the advantage? Probably an obvious answer but I’ve always wondered
well you can, but once you've crossed and he's forced the 1 circle you want to reverse you're now losing many many degrees a second in reversing and starting an opposite turn where he is now 30 degrees thru that first turn he started, so you CAN but you have to understand be willing to take that hit and understand that you will have to deal with him getting nose on first. Maybe you'll have to jink his gun shot, or flare off a fox2 but thats the price of a turn reversal that is somewhat "late" its better to build turning room and then force him into the 2 circle so you don't have to worry about him force a 1 circle on you in the first place, thats what I do in the first fight in this video I believe.

Hello I have a challenge for you to play in F 22 against 4 or 8 planes or between these two numbers in the DOGFIGHT system for 3 minutes or more according to your desire and when you confront them do not fire a single shot or missile until the specified time ends
Growling Sidewinder, may I suggest that after each "round" the pilots switch planes because (as an example) the F/A-18 player may not be as familiar with the plane's characteristics compaired to your knowledge of most of the planes?
Interesting fight since the yf16 went head to head against the yf17 (which later became the f18) for the Air Force light weight fighter contract to compliment the higher priced F15 program. Obviously we know the f16 won the contract cause it was cheaper. later the navy that took interest in the air forces program had the yf17 modified for Carrier use and awarded a separate contract for the f18. the navy preferred 2 engine jets over open water and needed a cheaper compliment to the f14
Aircraft with a maximum distance between the wings and the elevator are interesting - with a maximum shoulder of the elevator (shoulder is a term from physics: "shoulder of the force".) - this distance is maximum for aircraft: F-104 Starfighter and MiG-17. Elevator=rear horizontal fenders.

You should do of those intense non-commentary dogfights with an F-22 and an SU-57. Maybe an F-22 against two less maneuverable bandits like Hornets or Tomcats? I think it would make an interesting video. Great videos as always, GS, I’m glued to my screen! Keep it up!
@@Blazs120gl Strangely this doesn't work for me. I can keep my speed nicely between 400 and 430 and I still get outrated by Hornets and Flankers all day long. Then I get in the Hornet instead and outrate the same guy in the same aircraft without difficulty despite not even knowing for sure what speed I should maintain for a rate fight. Around 350-370 seems to work.
its not really what each aircraft prefers, very few aircraft like the f16 like only 1 kind of fight like 2 circle in the case of the viper, most often the fight you choose 1c or 2c depends on your bandit. Let's say I'm in a mig29 and I'm fighting a viper, I want to do 1 circle. If I'm a mig29 vs a mirage I actually want 2 circle. I hope that makes sense.

as a beginner BEGINNER if i lose visual, would a blind climb be a good time kill tactic to give me breathing room until i re acquire. just assume if i lost vis, that vertical is the solution. worst case i can't see him but am at least climbing, best case i gambled and won and re acquire while in advantageous position?
No, if you lose sight you will lose the fight it’s really just that simple. Work on maintaining visual at all times. There is no “if I do this it will be better” do not lose visual.
yes, I've seen people get pretty good at just using the different preset camera angles but if you want the best experience you have to invest in some sort of head tracking, I personally am using trackIR5

The moral of the day is never get low and slow in a dogfight against a Hornet because you won't be going anywhere but down in flames.

it might be a short while it might be around long term, thats still kind of undecided its up to ED but it won't be there forever I know that much.

Get above or below the clouds while both of you use them on-and-off for cover.
The key point is to just have patience. Eventually, your bandit will lose his own and make a mistake.

as a beginner BEGINNER if i lose visual, would a blind climb be a good time kill tactic to give me breathing room until i re acquire. just assume if i lost vis, that vertical is the solution. worst case i can't see him but am at least climbing, best case i gambled and won and re acquire while in advantageous position?
No, if you lose sight you will lose the fight it’s really just that simple. Work on maintaining visual at all times. There is no “if I do this it will be better” do not lose visual.

yes, I've seen people get pretty good at just using the different preset camera angles but if you want the best experience you have to invest in some sort of head tracking, I personally am using trackIR5
