to be fair, Karate Man WAS the first ever Rhythm Heaven game and its kinda iconic at this point

It was, sure. Karate Man has shown up at least once in every title in the series, however. We would've been fine with Karate Man Returns!, Karate Man Combos!, and Karate Man Kicks! if they really wanted to include him that much. Especially since there are other games from past titles that we could've had instead. Personally I would've at least liked to see Bon-Odori since that's my favorite game from the original GBA title.
