Train Goes Into Emergency At 3:15
Kotabeaner Good man...
JLT JLT bruh, that made my head hurt trying to read that...
I Know!
Kotabeaner hey go check out my channel
Smash that like button please I need to get a lot of subscribers
Awesome that you were there right at the right time! Great video!!
Thank You Man!
Kotabeaner Your welcome!
Auto racks are notorious for going into emergency, I have seen more than I can count go into emergency at much higher speeds and have never seen the cars come through the doors like this. I am thinking whoever loaded the cars did something wrong or missed a step. Very good catch young man, and prepare to go viral because Millenniumforce just tagged your video!
It happens sometimes, the train goes into emergency and stops...the vehicles on the train just keep going.
3:19 you can really see the CP AutoRack Slam into the other one.
NOW THATS ALOT OF DAMAGE!!!
XD
@@Runawayrack hi
That is something you’re never going to see you again, that is the definition of something you don’t see every day! Excellent camera work, great video overall!
When a freight at speed goes into emergency I do not want to be anywhere near this close to it. Retired from CSX, 54 years on the rails in all.
Can you see the cars dipping down toward the camera. This is from low ballast before the diamond (should have added more ballast)
and the diamonds have no flex. Diamonds are not supposed to be tightened down to the max as tight as they can be. This causes
extreme wheel stress and rail wear. All the diamonds at Plant City are tightened to the extreme. That's why when trains pass thru here
(AMTRAK) sound is so loud. Yes, there are buildings amplifying the sound but it should not be this loud. If you look at the rail heads here
there flattened out. That's proof. This is basic old school track maintenance not being followed. That little mishap costs csx a pretty penny.
Retired Track Inspector for hire.
Wow, he stopped surprisingly fast for a train of such size
Yeah It Was Quite Scary
Must have been empty.
Gary C.
It was loaded, check out Millenniumforce for video of the damage to the load of cars.
Can anyone help with this question? How could this train stop so fast. There are many loaded auto racks. Though I don't know if that means the rest of the trailers are likely loaded or not? I might think they wouldn't want to pull many empty ones but maybe they would. Any idea?
loaded auto racks are not as heavy as you might think
WOW! That slack ran HARD! Great catch.
I used to work for a company unloading autoracks. We drove the cars off the autoracks for them to be loaded onto semi trucks heading out to the dealers. The only thing they do to secure the cars inside is set the parking brake and chock the wheels on each car tire(4x per car). On the inside of the autoracks are wheel chocks that lock into the floor so they don't move but the force of an emergency will cause them to bust. They are only made of plastic! Not sure why they don't use steel instead.
LOL hahaha you have the NCIS intro soundtrack on here... awesome! :D
Hey I am putting your video on my face book page so you get a ton of views. Congratulations your video will get a ton of hits.
Could you ever do the same with any of my Videos, Alan?
You would have to be in the right time and the right place and I would. Like this kid did. He was down the tracks from me.
Good to know.
This Kid?
IM YOUR BIGGEST FAN ALAN
Great catch, young fellow! You never know when an otherwise routine video will turn into an astounding event!
Keep up the good work!
Nice video. looks like a safe track speed. Those SOO / INTX hoppers sure get around. I filmed them days before they were patched.
Excellent filming job, being there at the right time. Even more amazing to me, is it looked like some of the cars were Sweetman, loaded with quartzite, which is quarried right near where I live. Again, way to go!
when i hired in 1974 ; the cars still had REAL frames to tie down with REAL chains....there was never that much damage with this easy of a stop.....by the 80's the cars were getting smaller/junkier/lighter so they went to plastic chocks (the frames were no longer strong enough to hold) some still have a belt that go around the tire (those were better) some of the rail cars might have defective end of car cushions...that can cause serious damage in a minor stop..hopefully they got the air hose recoupled and they were on there way....claims agents will have to write some more fat checks...
The Train Was Stuck There For Over 2 Hours!
Wow he was going way to fast over that diamond. No wonder the air hoses broke.
Yeah, As Soon As I Saw Him, I Thought "That Is An Unusual Speed For Him To Be Traveling"
Millenniumforce what makes you think he was going too fast for the diamond???
many diamonds are 25, didn't look like he was doing much more than that. racks just have low hanging air lines.
I worked for the railroad when I was younger and I know the sound of the wheels hitting the joints in the track to know about what speed he is going and he was doing 35 to 40 mph.
I rode the back of many trains at many speeds to learn and study the sounds and speeds. Back in the 80's it was required in New Jersey to take a test to the knowledge of the speed of trains. I passed that test.
Millenniumforce good for you. say he's going 35. What says the speed limit over the diamond isn't 35....??? You Probly know that too, eh??
You probably dont know that you sound like a jackass.....but Im here to tell ya,...put it into emergency stop.
That train stopped on a dime for the speed it was traveling!
So I've heard a million times in my life that a big freight train can take a mile or more to stop. But every time I see a video on youtube of a train going into emergency, it stops in about 2 car lengths! What is the story?
I'm guessing it was empty or nearly so. You can see the flatcars are, the autoracks and tank cars are a guess. It was also not going full speed.
its not empty, there are photos of cars crashing through autoracks on this day on this train
watch mileniumforce. it wasn't empty
johnnybikesalot
Under normal braking, it takes a train over a mile to stop. Railroad supervisors always warn engineers not to throw a train into emergency at any cost. Sending a train into emergency stops the train faster than necessary. Such abrupt stops lead to cars being crushed, heated brakes that weld themselves to the wheels of the cars, and/or damaged cargo. There was enough energy being exerted from the pounding over the diamond that it was enough to separate a hose. If the vehicles were properly secured after being loaded, they would not have shifted.
A heavy train (14,000 tons for example) doing 60mph may indeed take a mile to stop. And railfans love to throw the mile (or two or three) mile figure out there. Indeed however most trains are not 14,000 tons doing 60 mph. So while it does take considerable distance to stop at times, they often will stop far sooner than a mile.
Very cool video. I loved the NCIS intro. The railfan tower was a great idea, Ive spent quite some time at that tower.
Me Too! It's A Great Place To Railfan As Long As You Have A Train there! lol
Kotabeaner where is it located?
happened a few years back when I was trackside, have the conductor a ride after driving past the car with the broke hose.
saved him about 50 cars worth of walking haha.
Great to meet you in Plant City the other day. Please tell your grandmother thanks for chatting with me. Maybe I will get to see you there again. Great video. keep up the good work... Mike
Thank You I Will
People Sleeping: what the hell is that noise
Me: them loud ass autoracks making that sound
THAT was a heck of a catch young man 👍👍
Thanks!
It’s nice to know that there are other Florida rail fans
The amount of views you have total for all of your videos is how many subs that you should have.
zombie_gaming98 u mega foamer
Uh what?
its a joke
@@spoiler539
That was some severe run-in. Not surprised that some vehicles went through the doors.
I like how I saw the auto racks get closed together.
Sound of the steal rubbing during the stop 🚄🚄
Being at the right place at the right time.
Funfact: the brakes make a lil melody, just hear it
Nice video. Actually I am surprised that the cars aren't locked down properly to withstand emergency braking.
They are, but the restraints can only take so much force. Plus, if you have a vehicle come loose at the rear end of a rack, the vehicle restraints on the other autos on that rack have to contend with both the braking forces plus vehicles rolling or sliding into them from behind.
It’s caused when vehicles are improperly secured. They are suppose to be secured from frame mount locations to tie downs in the rail car floor. This prevents any movement of the vehicles, but lazy people will latch onto suspension or axle components, this allows the vehicles to move which can and does snap the tie down chains and then vehicles go flying.
Probably a new guy or just a lazy idiot.
He was able to go two or two and a half hours later a good job kid good video
I like train videos on CZcams 👍
when the trains go into emergency with autoracks loaded there is always damage. smh. good video
I thought I clicked on the wrong video when I heard the NCIS theme.
How long did this train stop. Dang it must be bad so I guess Amtrak didn't came through but great video of the SD70MAC
Wow! That thing stopped abnormally fast!
that slam was crazy!!
I like how this train goes fast
Epic work....Big like & respect
How many views this video has should actually be how many subs you have. People should’ve subscribed because this video is awesome.
Watch closely at 3:18 - look at the gray autorack and the gray/white autorack. You can see the slack between the cars being reduced (??? dunno proper term for this) with a BANG.
Right!
Why didn't you have a radio scanner bro!
The slack was definitely damage to the cargo (no pun intended) and I have once seen a train in emergency but it was about a mile up from where I watched it pass on the mainline... It was a container-only intermodal NS train with I think an SD60M leading... hard to remember it was LOONG ago.
they were going so nicely
Great video !!! When do you get to see this ?
You also posted this on my birthday December 20th.
Oh Cool!
I just went to Plant city yesterday and saw 3 csx's and 1 amtrak. The amtrak and the first csx were not even a minute apart
I missed you Alan smith. :(
The music is from the TV show NCIS
3:17 why I don’t like transportating my cars on rails
Nice catch.
Thanks!
I'm a fan of the csx and union Pacific cp coal trains
So I guess I’m not buying a new car this year lol
Cool video thank you 😊
Lazy person didn't secure the vehicles properly because they figured it was going to be a smooth ride.
Definitely possible.
wow thats rare for a train to stop on the diamond
OMG! I'm so glad that nothing derailed!
One Of The Autoracks Almost Derailed We Saw It Swaying Side To Side
yeah it swayed side to side because the auto rack had too much pressure pressing it on the two sides it connects to the other autoracks.
Yes Sir
It sounds like a scary movie
03:20 look at the white car carrier slam into the next train car! Crazy.
First of all, where the hell do you get a scanner radio? I can't seem to find one for a good price. Second of all, I could sure hear the WHAM when all of the cars slammed into each other.
I Don't Use A Scanner Because Like You Said They Are Way Too Expensive. I Just Use A Free Phone App Called Broadcastify, And I Just Look Up Plant City. It Is A Scanner App For Trains, Police ET.C
If all you need are the rail frequencies, you can get some handheld models from Amazon for around $80.
Kotabeaner I use that too.
They can be ordered off of Amazon, or directly from Uniden. They're very handy, and a lot of fun. You can scan all types of frequencies other than just railroad such as air traffic, fire and police, ham frequencies, GMRS and FRS and so on. Decent ones are not cheap, but you can get them for less than $100 easily. They're worth that.
How can you tell if it is an emergency stop over a regular stop if you don't have a radio listening to the crew?
1st, I Do Have A Radio. And 2nd, It Stopped Way To Fast For A Normal Braking System.
During normal braking, all you should hear is the brake shoes on the wheels. When a train goes into emergency, all the trainline air is released quite loudly, followed by the application of the brakes from the point of the air hose separation out both directions along the train. If the emergency brake is initiated by the engineer, the braking propagates from the head end towards the rear.
That CSI theme song
You can see the cars slam together at 3:20. NICE CATCH!
I wonder what happens to the couplers.
They might be fine but you never know.
Lucky catch! Did you stop videoing just after brakes applied and then start videoing again?
Looks like the train traveled only three or four cars before stopping.
Yes I Did
Kotabeaner Thank you. Did the train travel only three or four cars before coming to a stop?
Yeah Just About
Kotabeaner Thank you.. That is amazing! Slight upgrade?
My great uncle's train hit a vehicle and carried it almost two miles before it stopped.
Another time his huge 4-8-4 hit a small truck. Neither he nor fireman saw, heard or felt it.
A depot telegrapher saw it and telegraphed the next depot 26 miles up the line. The depot set signal to stop and they were shown the truck and two bodies.
Oh, Thats Awful! Sorry About Your Great Uncle. Hope He Is Doing Ok.
Great video
Thanks!
I don't like 90 degrees angle track at can get dangerous. They never know on coming train approaching
Wow i hope an a line train isnt approaching that one stopped
One would have thought the cars would have fastened securely enough to allow for such an event. Seems like a big oversight to me.
humans make mistakes.
I sware if an Amtrak train where to come from the other side of the diamond, Damn, we'd have been seeing a nasty collision.
Because of the signal systems, the engineer of every train approaching a crossing knows it to be clear or anticipates a stop.
And plus, we aren’t in a melinumforce video.
Welp. A train accucally can stop on a dime. Screw the 1.25 mile stop... Just cut the air pressure!
Why is the track crossing called ,,Diamond'' ???
Mostly because of how expensive they are.
You posted this video on Florida
That did not look pleasant. Great catch! I hope I don't see anything like that when I go there tomorrow.
... Ur Going Tomorrow?
Likely.
Im Going the 25-28
Cool!
U Gonna Go?
CSX Q441, LOOK WHAT YOU DONE TO THE AUTORACKS ON YOUR TRAIN! NOW THEY HAVE TO BE FIXED! CSX Q441, YOU HAVE CAUSED CONFUSION AND DELAY!
Robloxyessidthekidno that’s true.
Im sorry sir tophen hat
I saw a car inside one of the autoracks jerk out toward the doors and crashed it at high speed!that happened exactly when the train started stopping hard.here's a question, do the cars get repaired or get sent to scrap?
sometimes they are scrapped....sometimes donated to schools with auto shop programs with the understanding they cannot be repaired for the road
The trains are
CSX ES44-9
CSX AC44-8
MrTrainDeveloper 475 Those Were EmdSd80Macs idiot.
Good vid, very professional!
Thanks!
At the beginning I expected to see Gibbs slap DiNozzo
Impressive.
Hey Dakota it's me Dalton from Railfest and from a while ago, I finally got my CZcams
Oh, Cool! Nice To See Ya!
Kotabeaner I also noticed the front SD70M has no logo on the nose. Did you see that?
Yea, At That Time Those Newer Locos Were Made In That Style
How did the train do that
WOW, good catch!!
Thank You!
The two auto racks involved look to be CP 540181 and SOO 519020 which is the white CP car immediately behind it. Look down in the comments for additional info. It you get to look inside an auto rack there are chains, hooks, and clamps to secure the vehicles against movement during transit. They should not come loose even in emergency--possibly a derailment. That is the way they are designed. Most auto racks have a stencil to return the car to a certain loading point as the tie downs have been adjusted for those vehicles so that loading and securing them can be done in as little time as possible. Check out czcams.com/video/XjjoE5a68h8/video.html
auto rack car distribution is very complex and not determined by stenciling on the car sides. The pool is pretty much nation-wide and racks are sent from the unloading point to the closest loader that needs equipment. For example an auto rack moving from Louisville to Jacksonville, when unloaded, is very seldom going back to Louisville empty. It will instead be sent to the nearest point that requires a car for loading. Tie down devices inside the car move.
Nice video! Is that a school in the background?
No, Its Some Abandoned Building
The Cars Almost Derailed And Crashed! No Wonder Trains Were Going Fast. It Could Completely Destroyed Plant City!
More deferred maintenance , America's broken down Railroads .
why is it stoping
Alan Smith I got videos ready
Good the crew is off the hook on this one. CSX buys shit load of new cars, wonder if managers will be driving around beat up Cadillac Escalates??
+Iowarail Hi there, just curious, does CSX buy the cars and ship them as a part of their business? Or do you mean they buy any cars that have been damaged in transport?
Listen to the video song in the beginning it's the theme song from CBS movie
Ferromex autorack detected... Its good congrats for the video
Thanks! NP!
NP???
The S line seems to have a bit of bad luck lately.
+SCL Pete I'm curious, what else happened?
Well, has been some train/car collisions, and a coal train broke in half
Not emergency!
You would hear the air line snap
Seems like CSX would strap the cars down.
Securing the load is not the responsibility of the shipping company but the one doing the shipping, therefore CSX is not responsible for strapping them down and probably would not have moved the cars from the loading area if it had been known that the automobiles were not tied down correctly. That is a requirement for shipment. The shipper is supposed to load, tie down the goods, close, lock the doors, apply seals, then notify the carrier the cars (railroad) are ready for transport so the railroad would not be in a position to inspect the condition of the load prior to moving the auto racks. Securing the load applies to ANY load on or in a rail car(truck too for that matter). Add barges to the list as well as ships.
that was odd because the mechanic have fixed it before it went on the train because they are so post too look at all the cars before they took off. `
You can hear steal to steal rubbing
How in the world did it stop that fast?
+RetroGuy76 I remember 18 wheelers having compressors
RetroGuy76 you just explained how a 18 wheeler truck works. without the sand bit of course. they use air. everything is air because hydraulic fluid would get hot and boil under the conditions they are put under.
The real answer is the video is OBVIOUSLY cut at 3:22.
Well Yeah, I Just Changed Camera Views.
Sanders? Only the locomotives have sanders.
Would be nice if someone can answer the question
Because train crash into the truck on the tracks my name is Gary whitworth how are you
Score! Nice catch. GM got a payday.
