    I Hate the term "reverse racism" it's just racism, regardless of who it's from or who it's against.

    • @SirPoofyPants
      @SirPoofyPants Před 8 lety +22

      you're basing your belief on assumed properties of how the racism is implemented and on the characteristics on who it's against. Not all middle aged white men are in the middle class and not all black men can't get a job. There are rich, pour, smart, dumb, lazy, ambitious, etc. people in every demographic. Likewise, racism takes many forms.
      Racism doesn't become better or worse depending on who it's against. Racism is bad because of the discrimination and immoral actions it leads to, regardless of who it's against. To assume it's better or worse based on the recipient's race is an act of racism in it of itself.

      +SirPoofyPants The term has been redefined, last I read racism was those in with the majority of the political power discriminating against those without political power on the basis of race/ethnicity. They allege that racism is specifically systematic and cultural. In contrast they allege that "reverse racism" or racial discrimination at a smaller level is better defined as bigotry or racial discrimination.
      They used to just call it institutional racism, but the argument in favor of the definition is that in the USA it has been used specifically in the context of White discrimination against Blacks for so long that it has a different connotation here as compared to discrimination.

    • @SirPoofyPants
      @SirPoofyPants Před 8 lety +5

      That makes no sense as a definition. Even if you can establish what is meant by "power" and determine who has said "power" (which is impermanent and nebulous), it's still an individual's beliefs and actions that makes them racist.
      The point of the term is to call out those discriminating based on race. Altering that is simply done so some people can justify their own bigotry but claim not to be racists because they don't have the "power".
      Ultimately what we call it doesn't matter. Discrimination based on race or any other arbitrary characteristics is wrong regardless if you have "power" or not. And though some people like to play word games and redefine phrases to try and hide their bigotry, actions speak louder than words and no one can escape that fact.

It's a person who imagines that his bad times equal those endured by another whose familial history includes kidnapping, being sold into slavery, being beaten and/or hanged just because, being denied the right to ANY education then the right to an equal one, and of course the right to vote. In the infamous Bush-Gore recount, 20,000 NON-felons were scrubbed from the voters list in a couple of Florida counties because their names were similar to felons. Out of one county's list of 500 who weren't allowed to vote, only 32 were felons.

In point of fact, it is an excellent example of a monologue replete with strawmen, reductio ad absurdum, and good old fashioned purposeful misrepresentation of reality (or "lies" for those of you keeping score at home).
      The OP didn't make an argument, therefore the ad hominem nature of his comment wasn't argumentum ad hominem... Unless...
      If you were *ASS*uming that there was an unstated but nevertheless implied argument within his original post, then you must state what you thought the argument was, and refute it. Your comment is a argument by fallacy. Just because the OP committed a fallacy (still ASSuming the implied argument), it doesn't make his comment wrong. You need to demonstrate how his argument is wrong, independent of the fallacious logic employed, otherwise your comment is equally useless.
