New years day 3am absolutely pissing with rain, i fell out of a random house party somewhere near canary wharf. No idea where i am freezing cold and a tenner in my pocket. Black cab pulled up, i told him i needed to get to Hammersmith and waited for laughing and 60 quid at least. The guy said he was on his way home to Fulham and it was free. Legend.

I loved black cabs…I’m retired now, live in outer London and I miss them. They were my lifesavers to get to appointments on time, when I got lost, bad weather, just lazy and didn’t want to do the tube, and after work having spent too long in a central pub! I’ve had many a great conversation with the drivers and solved the problems of the world. Cabbies are so knowledgeable, not only with the knowledge!

The meter price is regulated fixed by the local authority council not the taxi driver!
Uber prices surge in busy times often well over and above black cabs
Get a bus , cycle or walk if you're cheap it's the punters choice if they want an Uber and sit in traffic or a black cab for a few quid more but quicker journey
    It's your decision

Ever since the taxis decided in Spain to take on the same role as Uber/Cabify as having clean cars, being showered, and offering an app service, I have not taken an Uber. My problem was getting in cabs where the driver hadn't showered in two days, with open smelly food, and a dirty car. Some started to subscribe to apps like FreeNow, clean cars, clean clothes (no need for a suit and tie), etc. And that was the moment I decided I would always get a cab, specially when ordering on the app

Uber is pretty reliable to be fair and maybe slightly cheaper, especially after 11pm at night
At the end of the day most people who use a taxi are doing so because it’s quicker or more convenient from A to B. Serves the same purpose as a London taxi.

Im not a Black cab driver but this man told us all the amount of work you must do to qualify as one.
The KNOWLEDGE is famous and famously hard so getting picked up by a LICENSED cabbie who is honest and monitored by various organisations definitely puts your mind at rest.
So how the hell hasl Uber been allowed to work alongside them with absolutely no qualifications??!!
No wonder Black cabbies are not happy with them.
Anyone who gets in them is at risk. There have been secksual assults committed by their drivers and years ago I know someone who was asked if the Uber drivers mate could come and sit in the passenger seat cos he talks good English and knows the roads better. True story that !!!!

Uber is minimum wage after all expenses deductions for drivers. Recently the uber algorithms have changed from deducting 25% of drivers earnings to variable. This variable means uber will deduct any percentage it wants so as to ensure the driver earns only minimum wage or just a little above. The algorithms are not hard to decipher after 7,000 trips and having huge driver earnings cuts. A different career is now on the horizon.. Good luck to the populations with the immigrant surge that's gonna be uber drivers!

Many years ago my wife, our baby and I were stood outside outside Hackney Hospital in the pouring rain trying to hail a black cab. 4 stopped, but none would take us to Islington. The first and last time I took a black cab in London, the bastard drove me around in circles and charged me about 3 times what the proper fare should have been. So good riddance to bad rubbish. If black can drivers weren't such cockwombles then more people would use them. Then I had the same trouble with and Uber during lockdown. He intentionally missed a turning and ignored me literally shouting at him to turn, claiming he didn't hear me. Then he refused to turn around which resulted in the fare being double what it should have been and it was automatically deducted from my card. Uber weren't interested in my complaint. I never used Uber again. In London, unless you've got anything more than one suitcase, you don't need taxis, the buses and tube are cheaper, better and quicker. I wouldn't go back to a store if they ripped me off, so why would I use black cabs or Uber again unless absolutely necessary. Let them eat cake

Drivers wages being stretched to the point of maybe skipping a service here and there, maybe squeeze an extra 5000 miles out of those at limit tyres?
