This is what we should be looking for in a skin care review or tutorial. Too many people treat skin care reviews in the same manner that they treat reviewing a lipstick or pair of false eyelashes, and its even more scary that so many viewers except the fact that someone can do a skin care review of a skin care product they got the day before in a PR package. This site seems to never provide one unless the product has been in use for a very long time, perhaps even longer than it should have to be to see if it meets a claim or not, but when it comes to skin care time is thoroughness.
Jeffree Star will often do what other influencers do and review a skin care product at or shortly after its launch and not with any real use of the product but since JS seems to aheva routine that he is very locked into I can imagine he would even want to change it up for even a few weeks just to be able to say whether it worked or not. So you get a discussion of how he feels about the ingredients and what those tend to offer you, pro and con, fo skin care, and what a product may smell like, feel like and if it did anything that can be judged in one use of the product - such as did it remove dirt, oil and makeup left after remover was used or did it leave it behind too.
Now for people doing that superficial a review, there is nothing wrong with that and it's really the only fair way to do it if you are not going to dedicate several months to analyzing its effects. The issue I have is what has happened, for example, with the last two releases of Kylie Jenner's skincare products. Of course the launch videos that Kylie made were ones that were to make you think that the lawless skin you were seeing was the result of her line and had nothing to do with years of professional skin care, and, excellent face and body makeup as well as some really professional lighting techniques and videography and touch up in editing. Any blemish she did have was left behind on the editing floor and so it does speak volumes of her skin care line even if it had nothing to do with how and why her skin looks as it does.
The thing was that there were a lot of influencers out there that for some reason were buying that Kylie's skin care line = how Kylie's skin looked in the launch video's when most of these sme influencers are pretty skeptical about almost anything else and any claim it makes that comes through their mailbox. Maybe the launch parties are just that good and it's better to be a true believer to make sure your name finally gets on that list.
But let's be honest here, Kylie looks as he does from years of not only dedicated professional care of every inch of her skin but the employment and application of some very high end and advanced skin care products and prescriptions and these were all used over a very long period of time. Basic common sense will tell you that the very basic skin care products that she released, which seemed to to be directed at that age group demographic of early teens just reaching the age where they are now getting into something other that family's default bar of soap that they had been reaching for when they took a shower.
We actually had influencers that made comments in how the product worked, that they could not have known unless they were tappe and provided early release samples where they could have use the product for some time.
I know that doing anything to review skin care and speak about much more the product's fragrance and its feel the one time they used it, and how it left their skin after one use is all they feel they can do as if they give it a fair amount of time for the product to let their viewers know if it worked as advertised or not, that product would be such old news that no one would be giving them views for it unless they ferreted out some drama not previously exposed that suddenly made that brand/product relevant again.
And that i sad in a couple of ways as a skin care product is often very relevant for much longer that cosmetics are, because it often has to be used for a long period of time to see results and effects and so that information being put out there once someone has used the product long enough to honestly discuss it performance could be a great benefit to many. And then there are the viewers that will go invest in a whole skin care product line because some influencers do end up making it sound like they independently knew that what was said in the launch or advertisement that those would be the results. An most people do not think to question an influencer over how long they used a skin care product as that is not something that matters much with makeup. We are very used to the makeup video formula of 'unboxing, applying, at the most a few hours of wear testing, comments then taking in their comments about whether it does what it says it does. When they treat skin care in the same manner I guess most are not thinking of how different skin care should be handled to give a really honest review.
It used to be that there was a big gulf that separated makeup/cosmetics from skin care but then you has skin care companies branch out into a cosmetic line or a cosmetic company start up their own skin care line, and then you have stratus with the ideas of making cosmetics that had skin care properties and skin care products with cosmetic properties and so it became less and less unusual to hear from someone that was known for makeup talking about a skincare product and the other way around. And there is nothing wrong with that as they do sort of have a cross over. It's just that there comes to be an issue when you have influencers that try to handle them both in the same manner and then end up doing a disservice either to the product or to the viewers that might be convince to go out an buy it.
i really enjoyed this review as it was very much the more classic skin care review that we really should be expecting to get where we get the education in the biophysical as to what the product is doing when it acs in the skin and therefore what it could achieve as well a a much more technical explanation of what it is doing and what changes its making and so on. And we are hearing from someone that has been using the product(s) for a period of time, long enough to be able to speak intelligently on their experience and the results they have see personally. When you can get to the end of a review and feel like you really learned something, not just about that specific product but about that type of skin care in general that then gives you more knowledge not just for approaching that product specifically but like products in general. Having that ends up making you not only a better skin care product consumer but also give you information to decide whether what you are considering is going to be good for you or not.

I love John but these products are full of the worst things you can possibly put on your skin. Citrus extracts are photo toxic. That means they can blister you quickly upon sun exposure. As little as ten minutes. Cinnamon extracts are highly irritating . Rosemary extracts also highly irritating. Nope not a chance.

English is third language for me, and by watching more mainstream youtube influencers I’ve got used to the fact that I never have troubles understanding them. It’s easy to forget how beautiful english can actually sound when spoken properly. Whenever testing or trialing of product we should always do so in the most inconspicuous of areas...trialing for the face...behind the ear or very nape of the neck...testing for the body...behind the knee or crook of the elbow...these sensitive and hidden areas should prove to be a most advantageous testing ground...I hope you have found this comment to be interesting, useful helpful or beneficial...

i appreciate how respectfully you speak about acne, as a kid with acne so severe i have to wear bandaids on my face and back it’s so disheartening that so many people i look up to speak with disgust or disdain about acne. I've been aware of micro needling for some time but have never felt brave enough to take the plunge, you have convinced me! I love the idea of harnessing the body's capacity for healing to counteract the ravages of time. Judicious sun avoidance throughout my long life (being mortal myself, clearly not as long or illustrious as yours!) has served me well but only goes so far. The time for action has arrived!
