    I love all of these. I often return to them as I try to master these or similar skills. Thank you so much, I really appreciate your efforts and especially the format of the videos -it’s so helpful to see so many repetitions from so many angles. Thank you.

    "Practice these every time you skate" Hahahaha *cries as she tries to avoid rambunctious kids during public session*
    Anyway, these are great tips! I'll try them out the next time I'm out on mostly empty ice. ;)

      +iomoon Yeah, it's really hard to get anything done on a busy session. Hopefully you can find a time when the kids are in school.

    You're instructions are a great help, I watch them over and over. Since you ask what we like to see covered: could you please, please do a video on two foot and one foot spins, especially explaining which part of the blade and which edge is involved during the actual spin, and on which part of the foot one needs to put pressure. I looked all over the internet and still have not found an explanation that covers this. Thank you so much in advance and have a happy holiday season!

      +FrankieVercammen1 Yep! Now that we're done with competing for the season we won't have to run programs for a bit so we'll be able to make more videos. We're already on track to make a spin video so hopefully in a week or two.

    I really like all the tips in this one, and your comment replies helped me too. I'd like to hear the story you mentioned of your worst injury being when you were doing a simple thing. Maybe a video on safety and injuries? Or falling?

    • @kseniyaOleg
      @kseniyaOleg  Před 8 lety +3

      I was a beginner and was learning to do the Cha-Cha. On the first swing roll (after the slalom) I lost my balance and swing my free leg back and toe picked the ice, then fell back onto it breaking my right ankle. After getting a metal plate screwed in, and about 5 months of recovery I came back. One good thing that came out of it was that it shattered any illusion I had prior that I would be any safer doing something simple vs. difficult. So I use that experience to resist any fear. Any experience, good or bad still counts as experience gained.
      Concerning falling. I fall about 2-5 times a week, though I don't keep track. I don't worry about falling, instead I think about keeping my partner safe. If you fall back, tuck your head. Though it is still possible to get a concussion even if your head doesn't hit the ice. If you fall, first make sure that your partner won't get hurt, so if I fall I either let her go so I don't pull her down with me. Or, if she or we both fall, I try to make sure she falls on top of me so that I break her fall.
      If you fall, the best place to fall is onto the side of your hip. I usually spread out my fall so that I take it in the shoulder (by tucking my arm in). If you try to break you fall with your palm, you may break your wrist. Kseniya did that on the Finnstep, you can see her cast in Episode 11 (she is wearing a glove over it).
      The best advice is to accept that falls are inevitable and to condition your body to be able to avoid injury. The importance isn't to never fall, it's to avoid getting seriously hurt. So warm up off ice before getting on. Warm up on ice before getting to your training or lesson. Go to the gym and work with a personal trainer to be flexible and strong.
      If a student starts to complain about warmup, I tell them: "You wouldn't step into a boxing ring unless you knew your body was strong enough to handle getting hit, right? Skating impacts can be just as violent."
      Finally, there will always be danger, but fear and hesitation will only increase your risk of injury. So be prepared, accept the risks, and don't hold back in training. Also, don't take it personally if your partner cuts, kicks, or otherwise hurts you.

    Hi Kseniya and Oleg, thank you for your videos. I'm working on my back edges now, but I got a question. When you say use the boots support, what exactly do you mean? Do I literally feel my feet pushing against the leather, putting pressure against them?

    • @kseniyaOleg
      @kseniyaOleg  Před 8 lety +3

      +TheFantasyFen Hi Fen! Correct, support means that you press into your boots until your boots stop you at about a 90 degree bend. If your boots haven't broken down they will give you a slight rebond. So that you press and rebound back. This constant and fluid motion is one of the keys to gaining and maintaining flow.

      HI, thanks for your replies :) It feels pretty difficult on the outside edges. Perhaps I'm not ready to go into deep edges yet :') I think I have improved much in the past month though, so that's all fine :)

    I'd love to see one on front and back loop footwork. That might be more of a free skating thing, but then again it seems dance skating is getting lot more "freestyley" now days.
